Intense dashing for sure. Its fast and you used it well but sometimes walking is better Wink

Myself does alot of jumping, i love pushing the jump button, especially doing something at the same time, like striking with the sword or picking up objects.

In the next two weeks i wont be at home, when i get back, assuming i have my dvd by then, i will start recording Smiley
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hey man, I can't wait to see your run approved by SDA, and watch it, like i said before. Good luck to you ! Don't make us wait too long !! Cheesy

This game is so good. Smiley
It's really nice to see this game being run as I have a lot of fond memories of it.  I have just watched Lag.Com's videos and nobody seems to have picked up on his sprinting.  I saw no use of the quick direction change sprint.

Maybe this isn't as widely known as I thought (and feel free to tell me to be quiet if you know about it), but it's possible to change direction while sprinting and keep the sprint going.  As far as I know this is undocumented in the manual and the only way I found out about it is from watching the video that you can see if you leave the inital screen idle too long in which you see the player performing these amazing sprint feats (it's quite long but it's there trust me).

I then tried to do it myself, and I think I managed to get the timing to be pretty much perfect, changing direction as I please and still sprinting.  It's been a long time and I haven't played it since the ps1 days so you may have to experiment and re-discover the method for yourself but this is how I think it goes - while sprinting let go of the directional button and just as Al is slowing simply press a new direction, don't let go of sprint at any time.  As far as I know this is possible with any boots.

This turned out to be a bit longer than expected and I hope I haven't insulted anyone's intelligence.  I'm not a regular here so hi btw  Smiley

gl with runs.

Tomo, thank you so much for bringing that technique up! Cheesy

Ive noticed in the intro movie that Alundra does make instant dash turns. Never have i figured out how.

Just now, i tried to do follow your instructions and it works! Its easy to use, dialing it wont be a big problem. Im definitely sure it will bring down the time alot! Cheesy

Eh, I had no idea about that either. If I can get the hang of it, I'll redo the previous segments. Smiley

nice :D. i am just interesting in this game... i have never finished it :/
Is this run still in the works?
Definitely, i just had alot of other things in the way.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Great, I'm really looking for it
Smiley

Going for the legend sword saves more time than i thought it would, at least 5 minutes. Because the time to die 21 times was 3mins and 37 secs.
I'm glad you're still working on it! When do you think we can see the finished product?

Thats as narrow i can be.
Thought, I may soon compress and upload the first 10 segments.
You should!  Roll Eyes

Ooh, I absolutely LOVE this game. It's one of my favourites.
I must have finished it about 5 times!

I was thinking of doing a speedrun of it and here I hear a lot of progress has already been made. I hope you don't mind a rival (Chillout and LAG) . Wink

I`m pretty confident in my skills with the game, but maybe I should wait before I see what you got.

I've seen LAG's movies. I noticed the lack of quick dash turning, but that has been addressed already.
Also, I've looked through LAG's file. (After I made my own).
Some things I notices which may be useful:
- When Olen lies in bed you have to talk to people and leave. You don't need to talk to Olen though, so skip him to save time.
- I think in Lars' dungeon, after talking to the first goddess statue and stepping on the switch the file says to go left and you'll see a spiked ball crash into the floor. I think it's faster to fall down on the right and jumpwalk up the ladder. You won't see the cutscene and there a savepoint right on your path.
- The guardian in Lars' crypt takes 38 sword hits which is a lot. It only takes 15 bomb hits or 14 bomb hits and 3 sword hits. It's definately faster!
-When Nadia is in bed you also have to talk to people and leave for the cutscene where Olen's hous blows up. You  don't need to talk to Kisha though, so skip her.

I think I`ll just play it through quickly to see if I can match your times. I'd love to be a part of this  Tongue

Sorry for the double post.

Some things I discovered that will help with the speedrun:

-In the ancient shrine, there are rooms where either barrels fall down or spikes when you hit a switch. I used to think it was arbitrary, but found out that the way you are facing determines where the barrels fall. So you don't have to rely on 'luck' and save time with this.
-Water magic owns the Reptilius Maximus. After 6 hits he's gone and you can hit him thrice with a single casting. It's hard to pull off, but possible. I defeated him in about 5, 6 seconds.

Lots more stuff. I`m now at Elena's nightmare. I`m trying to do it without dying. So far I've managed to kill all bosses pretty quickly, so the legens sword wasn't necessary. Hopefully I can keep it up.

I`ll also be buying a HDD-DVD recorder soon, so I can start recording.

AH :/ I let the spike fall..

anyways, Love to see your interest Zareon Cheesy
You seem very well familiar with the game.

May i ask how you take down the bosses in Elenes dream?
Have you decided Not to go with the Legend Sword?

btw, are you beating my times ?
or have confident you would ?

For Elene's dream, I'd say make sure you do the water (upper left) or earth (lower left) area last, since these have 2 hidden eyes at the end, the others only one. The last section you chose won't involve a boss.

I use the water book on the bosses. It owns big time. I got the fire wand and water book as soon as I got the spring beans. It saved me some time. Also 3 magic seeds, a magic elixir and a wonder essence before tackling Elene's nightmare. Especially for the '2 hidden eyes'-fight. I have 23 hp and the first armor (cloth armor), so 1 hit equals 8 damage. Anyway, 5 hits with the water book kills them. You should try to hit them at least twice with one casting, 3 times if you can (is difficult). Best way may be to attack twice to bring the eye down and then cast magic. Jump to reach higher with the magic. I just do a kamikaze attack, the water magic heals me anyway.

I don't know the fastest order to tackle the dream yet. If you have the legend sword, I'd say forget about the magic and do water-fire-ice-earth. I'm pretty sure it's the fastest. I have to go back and replenish magic at the save point, or the boss fights will last minutes (I'm not getting the Fiend blade either).

My time when having the first save opportunity in Elene's dream is 3:51:25 (with fire wand, ice wand, nava's charm, cloth armor, normal sword, 23 hp and 3 mp). This was with some emulator help, mostly to find the fastest route and reloading when I royally screwed up (making shorter segments in effect). It is a time I plan on getting or besting for the real run though. Finishing Elene's dream before the 4 hour mark would be a nice goal.

A few of my times:
First opportunity in Inoa mine:
00:34:50 on the first go, 00:31:59 on the second.
You had 00:30:42. I thought I did it pretty darn fast, so that's a really sweet time you have. Maybe I`m dashing to much where walking would be faster. Especially where you have to go diagonally.
I`m setting a <30min goal for myself here.

Saving right after finishing Bonaire's dream: 1:00:08
Your time was 1:00:59 and you died 16 (21?) times so you're ahead of me I guess.
Actually, the dying is not added to the game time, right? So 3mins and 37 secs should be added. Then I`m ahead ofcourse, but that could be royally regained in the boss fights, especially the one near the end of the game.
(Going for the <1h goal here). Hitting the boss with a bomb is the biggest bitch.
sda loyalist
Yeah, the bomb kill is annoyingly hard to get. Especially because it would make more sense to save at the beginning of the dream than the end... Smiley
I defenitely must play this game again ^^.
Once I finish it I will see your runs guys.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'm still waiting a lot to see this one ! Good luck to you chillout, i'm pretty sure you'll make it. Well, we're waiting for you. Smiley
