Hmms, how is the best way to deal with the enchanced Ronan boss ?

Im thinking of giving him a very own segment, since at that state i have about 31 hp and i die by 1 hit from him.

Edit. Ive figured out that charging the fire wand is probably the best option against him.

Since Nava's labyrint is right afterwards, im thinking of taking a small off route to save, losing 20-25 seconds. I think i would make up for those seconds, making that segment almost perfect.

edit#2. Dealing with Zorgia is too much with just the cloth armor. These disc that Zorgia sends out is nothing you can avoid enterily. Or am i doing something wrong?
I think buying the armor at the shop(after the murgg attack) would be the quickest upgrade.

edit#3 The route is finished, ive decided to start running. But! Im am not going to record yet, im still unclear about that legend sword. I will update with times and route later.

edit#4 Im about to enter the Inoa mine(A prayer for the Miners) and i have a time at 27 minutes. Improvements can be made, im sure.

edit#5
Ive found the ultimate place to die 21 times!
The save point in Bonaire's dream has 2 slimes right next to it - and its close by.
I start by bombing myself/walk into enemies to lower my Hp to 1. Then save, go out and die and "Quick restart".
I can die and "Quick Restart" 2 times pretty exact in one minute, after 21 deaths that equals 10:30.
+Time to lower you life and wandering off track is about 30 seconds.
+Time to retrieve the sword from King Snow is about 2 minutes.

So, about 13 minutes to get the sword.

I think, its well worth going for it.

edit#6
After the third segment which is right after bonaire's dream i have a time at 1:06:54
Im just about to get the Sand Cape.
Remember, this is not the real run. Not recording any yet either.

edit#7
Ive found a small trick in Coastal Cave, you can jump around a barracade taking a little shortcut. It doesnt give much time, but along the way you get an herb as well Cheesy

edit#8
I have the time 1:33:30 at Coastal Cave, first save point. 6 Segments.
Not recording any yet..

edit#9

Do you plan to collect the 50 gilded falcons? That woud take maybe 20 minutes longer, but I think it's definitely better to have a 100% run...  Smiley
How's it going with the segments? 61 seems a bit too much to me... the game requires some frustrating difficult jumps to be performed, though  Cry
100% run would work, only one thing is in the way.. the roulette. From what ive seen its totally random and you need to complete that to get a life vessel and a falcon.
It would take an immense amount of retrys.

The game is really logical, except the roulette as it seems.

Ah, not 61
What ive written is just the route, its not segments.
Right after Kline its up to 9 segments, im currently making segments of the route and running kinda fast through the game to check the time and if the route is possible.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
You're definitely right, the roulette is so tedious. It's completely random the way you can get those 5 wins in a row. It would take ages so it would completely spoil the run... it's a pity because this way you can't even get the last falcon, and therefore not even the Spirit Wand...
So you are trying for a "99% run" right? There's probably no alternative...
But you could try to explain the whole problem to Radix and Nate. Will you do it please? They could give you good suggestions. Thanks for taking the run seriously, you have my support
For me its either any% or 100%
Sorry to say, i wont be doing an 100% :-/ Not right now anyways.

I have planned to finish this run and i will do so.
When this run is finished, i will consider a 100% run, with the roulette.

What do you think a 100% would consist of ?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I would apply the conditions valid for Zelda: A Link to the Past.
100% means all items collected, including the 50 g.f., the Spirit Wand, the legendary sword, and all the vessels and magic crystals. This means collecting all swords wouldn't be necessary.
Beaing as in a 100% run you are forced to get all the vessels, you would be a lot more secure in terms of health.
After your any% run, how does a 100% single segmented run sound to you? Some jump mistakes would be more than necessary, in that case...but it would be one of the greatest rpg runs ever
What do you think?
How about the teleports ?

A SS run came to my mind a while back, im just wondering how the recording could be done and the roulette would case alot of problems.

Ah yes, the teleports... I have thought about that and in my opinion a 100% run should have the 8 teleports activated. Feel free to disagree
About the roulette, a 100% run should definitely have that included, due to the items it gives. You face a very frustrating task, which is going for the roulette as soon as the game permits it (so after you receive the relative special item). Then you should see your time at the roulette. If X time is > than average time you calculated you should spend, then you should stop and start your run again from the ship... there's no alternative I suppose. If X is < than the average time, then go on and continue the run. Try to calculate the odds and the average time... something like a 1 / 3x3x3x3x3 = 1 / 243   minus the odds af having a black. All has to be multiplied by 2 of course...one for the vessel and one for the falcon.   I personally think that the game is actually a bit less mean then you should expect it to be... what I mean is that you expect something like a 1/250 possibilities of having 5 wins in a row, but it is actually easier to win...  try on your own and see what you can do.   Because there is one more important thing (you probably figured out already): I used to see that the light of the roulette always stops on the opposite side it was facing, plus or minus one or two positions. For instance if it was on the central, southern light, the next time it will stop in the northern sector (one of the five spaces). If those 5 possibilities include 2 blue, 2 green and one red, then of course you should NOT choose the red. See that for yourself, maybe we could cut the stupid roulette in a half an hour parentesis (which would be very, very good in my opinion). Let me know how it's going... oh and for the recording you mean technically? In that case ask radix, I'd like your efforts to be well recorded (and you too I suppose!)
til next time, Chillout

I have really waited for this run to actually get going since this thread was first made. Good luck doing it chillout! I dont really care if you do a 100% or just a normal speedrun - i just want to see it done.

I really cant wait 'til the day that it gets done, I'll be so happy.

Once again - good luck, friend.

I'd also like to see it. I have simply not had the time to keep going with my planning and test run. Smiley
Thanks for the support guys!!^

The teleports could be compared as getting the Legend Sword or Nava's charm. But the teleports doesnt add anything to your display or inventory. So im still unsure about them..

Yeah, your right about the roulette, it sometimes comes down to a 1/2 chance to win a round. If i am going to beat the roulette theres a need to take some notes for some hours to check the probability and maybe discover some system or restart in its engine. (But most likely its just random)
Oh, the moment you can enter the roulette is after about 3 hours Roll Eyes
Need to check if there could be a faster way.

About the recording, a Single Segment run would be over 10 hours. How can i record that?
I'm rooting for you, I've been dieing to see this run completed.

I am so anticipated  Lips Sealed I could easily spend a saturday watching the whole run
Purple Link
My favourite game for the PS1,and never considered speedrunning it.
I am SO looking forward to this.

Might even try it myself...
Thanks guys, im looking forward to it too Smiley

The recording day is very soon! Im almost done with the practice run, which is going very well btw.
I have a time at 05:46:57 (Which can be improved by 10-15minutes) just before i place out the Jewel Crests, enter the Castle and beat Melzas. I will definitely have a sub 7 time.
So how's it going chillout?

Sad Recordings problems because my dvd sucks.

But i have purchased a new dvd recorder, soon to be delivered. About time for it as well, ive had issues with the old one before.

I have also bought a new video/audio output cable for the Playstation, with a combo of S-Video, scart and the regular composite. The enchanced image quality is incredible!!
:O Sweet

Alundra is my favorite ps1 game, I'm even more psyched to see it

I'm (slowly) working on my emulator run. You can find the page here. First segment is currently uploading, should be done in about 5 minutes from this post.

It's on the PAL game, so I'm not sure how different the timing is. What does your save file say after finishing the opening scenes and saving?
Nice man, its great to see a video.

Im also on the PAL version and the time for me is 00:07:13 at the first save.
I saw in the video you had a previous save at 00:07:14. No idea if that one was a success but i assume we are on the same timing.

Yeah, I had some pretty crappy luck during the storm random movement on the first try, so I recorded again and got that 8 seconds better. Remembering the rhythm of the text skipping really helps. Smiley
Yeah, smooth reading is important.

Some good news, im switching employee, it will give me more and better (speedrunning) time over Smiley

Still waiting for the dvd thought.

Recorded the second part of my run (Tarn's Manor). My PC was being more uppity than usual, so I had a few framerate issues until I got used to playing. I'm particularly proud of getting the jump to the secret first try. Smiley

You might question some of my dashing decisions. So do I.
Yes! awesome! I haven't seen this game in so long, seeing everything and hearing the music brings back memories.

And both of you have fast times  Wink
