if i'm fast, it's because i already checked up everything that could help me (star pieces? the women who cook you things?)

i've read the paper mario page you listened on page 3 or 4 like hundred times last year. but i went defensive against every bosses because i didn't know i would rape them anyway, without using wakka bumps.

this was my biggest error. i went defensive. now i go offensive and for now, i only killed 1 ennemy that i had the choice to beat it... (in my ancient run, i completely stopped to kill every ennemy who were on the map)

so now i go offensive, i try to be more fast in the places without ennemies, and i don't feel the need to read AGAIN everything from paper mario to know how i could be faster because i already did. and since im busy 'till next thursday (in 8 days) i won't be able to do any other parts.
I am dividing the segments from 52 to 26.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Ahh.  So there's only going to be 26 Segments that you are planning then eh?

Sounds good to me! :3

I actually like having many segments, as long as they are labeled in the comments.  That way, casual viewers can download the specific parts they want (e.g. boss battles), or simply skip the boring parts (beginnning cutscenes, Peach segments).  Plus, people with fast connections can download the next segment while watching the previous, and (in my case, at least) it will have finished downloading by the time they're finished watching the other.

My point is, go for as many segments as you need to manipulate luck to your advantage.  Don't care about what the others would prefer.

Also, even though you two seem to be competing, I don't see why you don't still post some of your strategies/tips here.  That way, others can help in the run, too.  The competition should be in execution, not route planning.

Of course, if part of the fun is route-planning on your own, go ahead, but consider double-checking your plan with us.

wow foogal, thanks...

but in my next run, you'll have to download.. about 8 videos only, they will be put together.

also, since jacob91 does not have any capture card, and didn't really help yet, i prefer to do it myself again. i trust me and you shouldn't care about my new strategies, because my  big strategie is now offensive more than defensive.

I really want WAK to finish and get the best time he can.
By that time I will probably have my DVD recorder.
After seeing that segment I wouldn't be surprised at all if he improved ~30 minutes.

Do these sound like good segments?

i thought about where i could need some help and finally, i was wondering if you guys knew a better route for my part 27 (find the yoshis in the jungle)... i know this part is like... my worst part, what ever.

i already thought about completely skipping the upgrade block, witch saves me 40 huge seconds. but any other ideas?

alright here's what i got.
From shop
exit left, go right, part bushes, get sushie, exit left
surf water, get red, get blue, get green, get yellow, get purple and exit.

sorry if that's vague or not what you wanted.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I dunno.  Skipping the Upgrade Block might hurt you in the run.  Without Sushie's Tidal Wave ability or whatever it's called, the Lava Pirahnna Boss Fight will probably be a big hassle, unless you plan to have tons of Snowman Dolls by then.
(user is banned)
i think the ice badge, who allow you to jump on fire ennemies, will affect the pirana the same way as tydial wave... but im not sure, if someone could theck this out? or if not, i'll have a day off in 3 or 4 days to see it myself. the badge is located in shy guy toy box
Edit history:
Jacob91: 2006-01-27 09:11:29 pm
There is a faster upgrade block inside the mountain, iirc.
The ice badge does have an advantageous effect similar to tidal wave on the lava piranha.

I agree with Jacob91's route for the yoshi's.  If you don't remember the colours, then:
1) red -- guarded by M. Bushes
2) blue -- at far west of jungle
3) green -- in darkness (could be done before blue)
4) yellow -- attacked by Putrid Piranhas
5) purple -- asleep in tree

Also, for the Putrid Piranhas, you can first-strike them with Kooper or Bombette.  If Bombette is super-ranked, you can beat them in one round:  first-strike with Bombette, followed by a Power Jump/Power Bomb combo (costs 8 FP, though).  No luck required, either.

I wouldn't bother boosting Sushie if you only plan to use her during the Lava Piranha battle.  Yes, the Ice Power badge lets Mario safely jump on fiery enemies, which will stun the Lava Piranha (although it may only be for one round, unlike two rounds from a water attack).  The badge also gives Mario a +2 attack boost against the boss (round 2 only), which would work quite well with Power Bounce.

I can't really give more help without knowing your status at that point in the game.  However, you can beat both stages of the battle in just 3 rounds with Mega Rush, Power Bounce, Ice Power, and Ultra-Ranked Parakarry (Sushie and Bombette could work too, but not as well, I think). No luck required, either.

i dont have power bounce, sorry =\

also, putting me at 1hp would take more time and luck than if i was only abusing the bosses's weakness. unlike paper mario TTYD, i can't have infinite "some" badge.

but i wonder witch partner could i have against this boss, btw... since i have no FP, i can't use parakarry shell shot... OH, bow's ultra attack!!! i can kill this boss in <4 rounds!

my strategie: first whole round against non-fire lava piranha: fan smack twice, do nothing with mario.

second round: normal jump with mario, twice smack fan while mario recover himself with some dried shroom (i accidently got +1 dried shroom +the one i have to buy at dry dry outpost)...

anyway, you wanted to know where i was now, i decided to show my boss fights for now.

There are a few possible improvements to your boss strategies.

For boss 1 fake bowser:
FAKE BOWSER
Thunder bolt/Bomb   (9 damage)
Hammer (1 damage)

for Koopa bros. (you kinda followed this.)

because mario attacked last, he does not have a turn.
Switch to kooper on bombette's turn
Block attack
Hammer
Shell toss
*pass turn
fire flower
Power shell

tutankoopa would've been much faster if you had 15 fp, but you didn't.

And for your plan to work you need 20 FP at least if you don't outta sight at all.
You should if your HP is tough to finish this battle,
Fan smack, Power Jump/ice power, Outta sight, Power jump
for each of the two battles (ice power doesn't help in the first.)

welcome to the machine
You should get power bounce.  You really should. :/
For realz.
Power bounce is 10 seconds out of your way...

bah okay, i let my speed run alone now. i can't go back to get it

I'm confused.  Bow's Fan Smack (which can attack fiery, and other untouchable, enemies) only does 10 HP damage, and the Lava Piranha has 40 HP each round.

I mentioned no luck in my previous strategy.  Start the battle with 5 or 6 HP, then:
1) Star Storm + Air Raid (13 damage to Lava Piranha, Lava Buds killed)
Lava Piranha attacks; block if at 5 HP, don't block if at 6 HP
2) 5-hit Power Bounce (6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2) + Shell Shot (7)
Lava Piranaha dies, round 2:
3) 6-hit Power Bounce (8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 ) + Shell Shot (7)

This requires 15 FP and 6 (actually, 5) BP.  The only issue is starting at 5 or 6 HP, which is easily done by jumping on lava/fire snakes a few times ealier in the volcano.  I seem to recall some dead time waiting for a platform over the lava to come over to Mario -- the perfect time to take some damage.  If you jump right on the middle of a fire snake, Mario will bounce for continuous damage instead of having invincibility frames afterwards.

Of course, if you have more than 10 HP, this might be unrealistic.  But why do you need to upgrade HP?  Most bosses should be killed so quickly that you won't have a chance to die.  If anything, a little evasion or a status ailment should give you enough extra time.  The only boss that should be any trouble is Bowser, and by then you should have some Repel Gels and/or Life Shrooms saved up.

To be honest, you shouldn't be starting your run if you haven't planned out all of the bosses yet.  Of course, I haven't scoured the game completely to plan out my own run yet.

Some commments on your boss videos:

Chapter 1 Boss:
Good job on the Bill Blasters, but you don't need to have Bombette attack before Mario -- just have Mario Power Jump the second one.

With the actual chapter boss, I don't know why you didn't follow the strategy I gave earlier.  Here it is again:
1) Power Jump + Bomb
2) Power Jump + switch to Kooper (I don't think the order matters here)
3) Shell Toss, then untimed jump
4) Fire Flower + Power Shell

When the Koopa Bros. Stack is unstable, anything (even a Dizzy Dial or Fright Jar) is guaranteed to knock them over.  An untimed jump compared to a timed hammer saves more time than an untimed Shell Toss compared to a timed Shell Toss.

Chapter 2 Boss:
My biggest question is if you really needed the BP level up this early in the game.  As said earlier, 15 FP would let you win in 3 rounds, at a maximum of 6 HP damage.

Also, try to connect with Shell Shot right away on the first pass.  Easier said than done, of course, but this is multi-segemented.

Chapter 3 Boss:
Good job avoiding those Hyper Goombas.  I always have trouble with those.

I still think that detouring for the Power Bounce and Mega Rush badges will save a lot of time on bosses.  Once again, I haven't actually timed or tested this yet, but it seems to make sense.

Oh, and against Tubba Blubba himself, Parakarry with Shell Shot is faster then Bombette with Bomb.

EDIT:
Oops, my Lava Piranha strategy uses 18 FP, not 15.  However, since you're most likely going to be at level 5 by that point, my strategy is still feasible.
............... .......
Pretty sweet videos! You beat those bosses faster than what I thought was possible!

But hell, if you guys can improve them, go for it!

I would offer suggestions, but speed running through RPGs aren't exactly my thing. (Even though I like to play RPGs.)
I'm doing a practice run.
General guy @ 2:16

I really need a strat,
I have 10 hp, 15 fp, 9 bp

Okay, here's my recommendation:

I'm assuming that you have Power Bounce.  Equip the following badges: Quick Change, Mega Rush, Power Bounce, Power Jump, and Speedy Spin.  Start the battle with 10 HP.

1) untimed jump, then Outta Sight.
Shy Squad misses.

2) untimed jump
Shy Squad runs away.

3) Switch to Bombette, then Star Storm
Still Guys defeated.

4) Thunder Rage + Power Bomb
Shy Stacks defeated.

5) Hammer + Electro Dash
General Guy has 24 HP left.
General Guy attacks.  Don't have Mario block.

6) Hammer + Electro Dash
General Guy has 18 HP left.
General Guy attacks.
If Mario is at
- 6 HP: Don't block lightning, restart fight if bomb.
- 5 HP: Block Lightning, don't block bomb.

7) Jump + Outta Sight
General Guy has 10 HP left.
General Guy misses.

8 ) 4-hit Power Bounce (4 + 3 + 2 + 1).
General Guy defeated.

Notes:

The Shy Squad runs away after two rounds of being attacked, regardless of the damage done to them each round (in fact, fear attacks will count too!).  So don't waste time timing the jump attacks, and Outta Sight greatly speeds up their attack.

If you have Close Call, you may be able to exploit luck to do it faster. Consider starting the battle at 1 HP (3-hit Power Bounce OHKO's the Shy Squad, etc.)

Simple, use Power Jump instead of hammer in step 5 or 6.  But why aren't you upgrading Watt?  Saving it for later?
The closest upgrade block is like.... MILES away..
Is there one closer that i've forgotten about?
