I know for sure I can at least get a 1:43 now. I've messed around with the languages some but only seriously timed one dialogue sequence, which took 52-53 seconds in Japanese but ~56 seconds in all other languages. However, Japanese doesn't seem to always be faster; if anything it is probably just more variable.

I know most people have been against using DLC, which surprised me at first since most people playing through God Hard seriously have the DLC.  Many other games use DLC without many qualms, but oh well. I'd really have to re-learn the game from the ground-up, as I only completed maybe 2 playthroughs of the game before ever getting the tri-weapon pack ages ago; and I'd have to delete it from my hard drive as well, which would make switching between the two a pain.

Other than just plain knowing the game better this way, the Anti-Armor Pistol and Laser Cannon are really, really FUN. The feel of using them is just fantastic, and I want to see just how fast the game can be beaten. I can understand people wanting to play the game as-is, but I enjoy the game the most this way. I may give no-DLC a serious shot eventually, but there's still plenty I want to do otherwise. Sorry for being long-winded here, but I've thought about it a lot.

Awesome layzerphish! I'll be glad to help if I can!

EDIT: here's the YT vid of the 1:44:19

Hey guys, remember this game? I still think it's pretty cool. Took somewhat of a break from it, then came back and was having a rough time getting close to the 1:44:19. Figured out a few small strat changes though, got decent luck, and (mostly) solid play to beat it tonight by 1 minute and 31 seconds.

http://www.twitch.tv/halfcoordinated/c/3281119

new PB/WR is 1:42:48 at final boss kill, with the in-game time at 1:24:51. REALLY happy with this time, and it'll be tough to beat but I'll probably get it down lower eventually!

youtube vid of the run is below.

Gonna try and get into this game, a lot to absorb, but I'm gonna give it my best shot, I wanna show my local community how underrated this game was!
One hand is enough.
Good luck MegiddoRain! As I said before on my stream, feel free to ask any questions you may have about speedrunning this. I really hope you can stick with it.

I've improved my time again, twice in the previous two days actually. Last night's run is a 1:42:03 RTA and 1:23:31 in-game time at final boss kill. A big time saver since my last post here is at the Act 2 jamming array boss. If you reload they checkpoint after destroying a laser cannon of the array, the next laser cannon will be available to shoot without having to kill or wait through enemy waves. This could have gone even faster than in my run, but I accidentally dropped my AA pistol right before from being excited by a twitch raid. Overall I'd like to save over 30 seconds before trying to submit this run.

No twitch VOD this time since either OBS or twitch had an issue and I had to restart the stream. Youtube video is hidden below though.

One hand is enough.
As usual with when I declare a goal time, thinking there's less to save than there really is, I went ahead and blew that away.

http://www.twitch.tv/halfcoordinated/c/3545949

1:41:05 RTA and 1:22:38 in-game at final boss kill. VOD is missing Act 1 since I accidentally streamed to hitbox after checking some settings for them earlier today. I'll have the video up on youtube soon anyways.

Act 1 went fairly poorly, but had great upgrade drop rate, which continued throughout the run. This may be the second run ever where I got the AA pistol fully upgraded by the Act 2 boss. I also lost significant time to the final boss fight, so expect a sub 1:41 soon. I suppose I should be shooting for sub 1:40 even.

EDIT: youtube video in hidden section below. I doubled the bitrate compared to what I used to export at, so I'm pretty happy with the quality. Also, you get to see me flub around trying to pick up a particular upgrade in act 1

One hand is enough.
Sorry for all these PBs, but here we go again.

http://www.twitch.tv/halfcoordinated/c/3557164

1:40:38 RTA and 1:22:18 in-game at final boss kill. Act 3 had some poor luck, particularly at the collapsing bridge, and I remember mission 5-1 being a bit sloppy other than some great luck with enemy grouping. Otherwise the run is fairly solid but sub 1:40 can definitely be done

EDIT: The youtube copy of the run is up and in the hidden section as usual

One hand is enough.
Welp.

New time is 1:38:51 RTA and 1:20:53 in-game at final boss kill. Poor upgrade luck was countered amazingly by Burns being everywhere he was supposed to be, all the time. Solid execution helped too, of course. Depending on how further runs and research goes, I may submit this run to SDA.

Just got a new PB of 1:38:43 RTA and 1:20:25 in-game at final boss kill. This run really shouldn't have worked, with backup strats in Act 1 and some poor friendly AI luck in act 2. New strategies for Act 3-1, the Unknown fights, and a smooth Act 5 were enough to bring the run back.

Twitch VOD: http://www.twitch.tv/halfcoordinated/c/3663984

Probably won't upload to Youtube unless I don't get a better run for a while.
One hand is enough.
Another PB; 1:38:24 RTA and 1:20:14 IGT at final boss kill. This run was really good in some ways, such as good luck with Burns. Got absolutely no EMPs after Act 3 though, which forced me to use my old strategy against the last unknown and absolutely destroyed my final boss methods (resulting in some choking too).

New strategy of note this run is in 5-1. You can drift past the teleport spawn on the bridge if you melee-dash up the preceding ramp. I messed up a bit in this run but it still worked in the end.

Twitch VOD is in two parts due to wifi being reliable.

New PB of 1:37:52 RTA and 1:20:00 IGT at final boss kill. Second attempt of the day and I am now 31 seconds off from my sum of best splits.

No major time loss in this run as far as I can remember, just things that could have gone cleaner.

All love, dude. I admire your relentless effort and will watch as soon as I can. I miss sliding around on my ass shooting and punching things while drawing a penis. Sad
One hand is enough.
Thanks. who wouldn't miss doing that while... drawing a penis?

New PB of 1:37:37 RTA and 1:19:43 IGT at final boss kill. New strategy of note is simply following Burns up the ramp in the final room of his fight, which is a few seconds I should have been saving from the start; getting a 1:36:xx is definitely possible.

So, I'm finally working on no DLC Casual difficulty runs, and they are pretty fun in their own right. Gotta love the fully upgraded shotgun.

Current best (and I suppose WR) is 1:47:26, but I  can cut a few minutes off (this was mostly to give a goal time). I think I'll try using the lock on laser in a few more parts.

New no DLC record: 1:44:55 RTA and 1:27:03 IGT at the final boss kill. Used the lock on laser in 1-5, 1-7, 2-4, 2-5, 3-6, and 4-1. Used the rocket launcher more than before, and had a pretty cool strat with the LFE in 4-1. Basically I went under the bridge to the raised platform above you and shot through the ceiling, killing all the gorgies as they funneled through the doorway.

Lock on laser is definitely going to have a place in DLC runs now as well. It is simply too reliable.

Lost some very noticeable time to missing the argus QTE skip in 2-3, accidentally swapping weapons and overheating inside the kreon, and dying to a BIA from being far too aggressive. I'd say there's still a good 2 minutes to save.

Improved the no DLC run a couple days ago: 1:43:44 RTA and 1:25:43 IGT at the final boss kill. Upgraded the rocket launcher three times ASAP to get the damage boost and make skipping the Argus QTEs more consistent, as well as speed up other fights of course. Decent run, but there's still definitely a minute or more to save.

I got a PB yesterday of 1:43:22 RTA and 1:25:15 IGT. have a new much more consistent strat for the second Argus fight (that I actually messed up from switching weapons too quickly) and a decent backup strat at the same time. backup strat is in this run. Final boss fight went quite well this run, but there's still plenty of time to save and I expect to improve this soon now that I don't have to reset nearly as much on the second Argus battle.

To sum up the second argus QTE skip, have the rocket launcher upgraded 3 times and unload all 3 shots into the exposed core with reload-cancelling in-between each shot then boost and roll directly under the core, slo-mo firing the shotgun almost straight up to get maximum damage per shot. If you mess up on the reload-cancelling and take too long to fire the rockets or hit it with any other weapon in-between, the core will most likely be invincible for at least one of the rockets. Also, if you take to long to get under the core and SG it, the Argus will actually get up faster than if you were actively firing at it.

Backup strat: do less than 50% damage to the core first time it falls and when you shoot out the second leg, the QTE will not trigger. considering the QTE costs 20+ seconds, not too bad. This requires less slo-mo usage than the single-cycle QTE skip as well.

Twitch VoD: http://www.twitch.tv/halfcoordinated/c/3913982

No youtube since I should be able to beat this soon, what with the lower amounts of resets now and all. If anyone read all this, thank you and congrats?

One hand is enough.
I neglected to post here the last time I got a PB, so heres a run over a minute faster than the last time I posted here: 1:42:07. got lucky with Burns getting on the elevator in 4-1, and had a new SG melee strat for the Vulture in 4-2 that abuses the fact that hitting a Vulture's hand doesn't overheat you. First act was pretty slow sadly, but still glad that I didn't reset. I'll be bringing this down to a 1:41 sometime.

Improved the noDLC record by 1m37s this past weekend for an RTA time of 1:40:30 and 1:22:30 IGT at final boss kill. This run actually beat my previous Sum of Best splits by 9 seconds even! I had amazing luck with upgrade drops (the SG was rank 8 at the end of mission 1-6), Burns was overall cooperative, and sections of Act 2 in particular went amazingly well. I'd say my goal at this point is to get a sub 1:40:00, but it is going to be rough.

Yes I went OoB somehow.  On closer inspection it seems right when he kicks out of boosting he got caught on the barrier and the physics decided to freak out and launch Sam OoB
Everybody's favorite monster
I should really really start running this again. Great run at agdq 15 halfcoordinated

@xaerock
I've been running this on and off for over a year now, might as well dump some info here.

PB for Hard (no DLC): 1:46 RTA + Hard ILs

That was achieved a year ago and sum of best with new skips is 1:39 so it's massively improvable.
New routes should shave off at least 5 minutes from Casual any% as well.

GodHard ILs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLixUgqix_ieR0c5Y5f3NfFSUj3zU9cXGl
just finished a set of ILs for Act 1 which is part of why I'm posting now

New stuff:
- Sniper melee is by far the fastest way of movement, movement speed chart
- Time-stop glitch allows for various out-of-bounds and small skips due to how moving platforms work #1
- Rerouting and such as usual
- Various i-frame, movement and weapon techniques to help with evading while attacking on Hard & GodHard (using boost startup & recovery i-frames during lock-on, etc.) This was all known by the japanese IL runners but mostly irrelevant in casual any%
misc. notes

A japanese runner started doing godhard RTA half a year ago and his PB is 2:19 right now. I'm starting to learn that run now and will try to beat him. For now most competition has been on the 1-3 IL which is now down to 4'59'' IGT. It's clearly possible to get sub-2 hours RTA on godhard but it's so difficult that runs will have many deaths until people get super consistent. The japanese runner routed use of the time-stop glitch into the speedrun allowing a 2.5 minute skip on 3-6 among other things.

PS. There's a glitch known since 2010 that allows you to throw infinite grenades but all the japanese runners (molu_jpn, vnichiro etc.) decided to ban it for ILs, same with the new godhard runner. With it you could spam EMPs every time you boost so it would be silly like infinite flutes in Bayonetta.

Would be nice to see more people try this run. With 5 minutes to shave off in each category and still a lot of routes to improve it's a good time to start.
