Haha, thanks, I've only been playing for about a month (I started my first full playthrough of TP ever on October 12 this year), so I'm pretty surprised myself that I managed to get a sub 5 on my first completed run.
Yeah, it took me forever to get sub 5-hours. I would always be about a minute over 5 hours, and then one night I got a 4:39. Then I got a 4:27 in my next run, so I became used to shaving off like 10 minutes at a time. You'll probably be at sub 4-hours quicker than you think.
Ugh, I'm not sure if I can do RTA of this game; I might try single segment instead. BiT kills like 90% of my runs, and resetting is really painful because I have to erase my disc every time. To put it in perspective, today I took 3 hours to get a run past S&S skip. Of those 40+ attempts, only 3 made it past BiT. Unless a reliable method is found for BiT, it's probably just too much.
Because if I have an hour of failed attempts on one disc, then I have to switch discs after 1 hour instead of after 2, etc.
I really want to do RTA if I run this game; bokoblin pushing is really hard for me and I like being able to savewarp in dungeons, plus the time is lower which is the goal in a speed run. Back in time is just so hard though =[
Capture cards are notorious for badly dropping frames unless your computer is ungodly fast (and even then you have a chance of dropping frames). Plus, that would mean I couldn't use disc switches, which I need to take breaks since I rarely have 4+ hour time blocks.
No, you don't have to always switch discs at the same part of the run. If your DVD recorder displays the amount of time you've been recording, just keep an eye on it and find a place to pause and switch when you're near 2 hours on the disc, regardless of where you are in the run.
...No. I'm working on MP1 100%, and I could fit the entire run on one disc if I wanted to, but I'm still switching after an hour because having to restart the recording after every failed attempt would be stupid.
Alright, Logitech gave me some advice for BiT (waiting for a couple seconds before jumping off the bridge to give yourself some time to prepare for the timing) and I'm getting it a lot more consistent now. I will definitely be doing RTA if Flip allows it (still waiting on that ruling from him, lol).
The only problem is, since the BiT route doesn't get the orange rupee behind the house in Ordon, you need to have 70R by the end of snowboarding, then get the orange rupee from Snowpeak (170R), the 50R chest from the bulblin camp (220R), and 80R from AG. However, if you don't have 70R by the end of snowboarding, you need to get the random orange rupee from Snowpeak, which almost never appears in my experience. I've lost a lot of runs to not getting enough rupees from snowboarding and getting unlucky with the Snowpeak rupee drop. Is there anything I could do to make this easier without losing too much time? I thought about getting the 2 yellow rupees from the roof of the house in Ordon before or after sumoing, but I don't know if tht would be too slow or if it would even help at all.

After king bulblin with bombs, there is a boulder close by that you can destroy for 2 yellow rupees.
Ah ok, that helps. Isn't there also 3 or 4 guaranteed blue rupees in Lakebed? I'm usually only 40 rupees short, so that would probably be enough to cover whatever I'm missing.
I know, I have to get both if I don't get enough rupees from snowboarding. The yellow rupees on top of the house and the red one above fyer are enough to make it so I don't need the random one, though.
I'm honestly thinking of just doing single segment for a while and maybe RTA at a later date; even with logitech's BiT strat I still can't get it consistent enough to be able to get a run far enough in.
Again sorry for the double post, but I still don't know if edits show up as new unread posts (can anyone confirm this for me?).
After a lot of thought and frustration, I think I'm going to stop running Twilight Princess, at least for a while. Things like goat herding and tears of light just ruin the game for me, and I don't think I can do it anymore Hopefully Rob, Pheenoh, or Interslice will be able to eventually get a submittable single segment run for this game, so good luck to them (they'll need it lol).
I might come back to the game after a while, but I at least need a break right now.
