I have a speed trick suggestion. What if, before taking the two last tears outside Forest Temple - enter the temple, get Ooccoo, warp out and then finish the quest. Then you'd just have to warp back in and won't have to go all the way back through Faron Woods? That way the finishng blow can be skipped too (although I guess it's mandetory).
EDIT: i just realized it's probably not woth it, with the warping and all =) What happens if you skip the finishing blow then? Would you get stuck at stuff like harvesting poe's soul, or slaying Ganondorf?
I also have a question about early lakebed temple. I'm supposed to bring a jar with a 5-rupee in it and boomerang it bla bla to get out of bounds. However, the jars seem to contain random stuff. Why this? Can I do something about it?
There's a digging spot close by. I think it's random as well. You can now get the swim suit if you like. Just throw some bombs over his shield at the enemy on the bridge. (forgot his name). Not sure how much slower this trick is.
I'm so close to getting this segment. I seriously get some of the worst luck with this game, I keep getting screwed over by the enemy AI so many times, it's unbelievable. And Ganon always likes to screw everything up when everything else goes right. Normally you get 8 turns for Zelda, one time I got over 12 turns, just dumb.
Too bad it takes forever for each attack, otherwise I could careless if it was eight attacks. Did you ever get seven times yet and fail later? If so then try practicing harder for the next part.
Getting zora armor is faster than I initially thought. I watched a single segment stream with sword/shield skip, zora armor. Without zora armor, you have to get fishing rod, which also means 1st goat herding, slingshot, etc. The speedrunner was ahead of Jiano at the start of 2nd goat herding by 3:41.
If a no zora armor speedrunner decided to skip sword/shield, he would still be 3:41 behind. After that, the zora armor and no zora armor route is the same until after exiting Snowpeak with B&C. Initially, this part was the hardest part to time. I had to make a lot of assumptions awhile back because there was no single segment run with zora armor to compare. Now there is. With zora armor, and assuming it takes 5 bombs to beat king bulblin on bridge (it can be done in 3), by the time a speedrunner would enter lakebed, it is possible to be ahead by 1:32. After water tunnel in lakebed, 2:13 ahead. By the start of deku toad fight, 2:18 ahead.
Now assuming morpheel takes 1:34 to beat with no zora armor (which would require 2 water bombs in 2nd phase in single segment lol...yeah right), vs. a less than optimal morpheel fight with zora armor, 2:25 ahead. Since the no zora armor run would have had that crazy morpheel fight, then no need to refill water bombs from chest in 1st room in CitS. After underwater zant, 2:42 ahead.
So a less than optimal zora armor SS run (5 bomb king bulblin fight + less than optimal morpheel fight) should be at the very least 2:42 faster than a near perfect SS no zora armor run. This is assuming though that the speedrunner can keep up with Jiano's pace throughout much of the game (forest temple, tears, arbiter's grounds, snowpeak, etc).
Also, the king bulblin bridge fight is just stupid with bombs. I can't seem to figure out a way to consistently beat him with 3 bombs (it usually takes me 6). I keep thinking there must be a pattern or some way to know exactly when to pull out the bomb and when to throw it.
The speedrunner who got zora armor in his SS run said that 2 bomb hits never beats King Bulblin on the bridge. So I played up until that point to test it out myself. For testing purposes, and to try to figure out a way to consistently get the fight done quickly, I did not want to have the annoyance of having stolen bomb bag disappear every time I ran out of bombs or had to reset. So instead I got Barnes' bomb bag (skipped ems), and fought King Bulblin on the bridge. After several tries, it always took 2 bomb hits to beat him. So I started another file, got ems and stolen bomb bag and it always took 3 bomb hits. So I guess my original video of beating King Bulblin on the bridge with bombs was done on a 'fixed' ems file with Barnes' bombs. I remember having ems when fighting him. Iza's bombs are 1/3 less powerful than Barnes against King Bulblin.
really? I am really surprised that it even matters which bomb bag you use.
Strange.
Yeah, it's really weird. I guess there's a small chance a 2 bomb fight with Iza's stolen bombs could still be possible, but only if somehow hitting King Bulbin with the bomb at a precise spot would make any difference, which I doubt. Anyway, Rob is determined to beat Jiano's time. He's been streaming and has done several SS attempts. He was ahead when he got to Faron twilight by 5:24. He lost all the time gained on Jiano after Kargaroc tunnel. Jiano did a lot of little things faster and was ahead by like 4 minutes after Arbiter's. Anyway, the best SS time so far is 4:03 with zora armor if anyone wants to check it out (Rob reset the game. The SS runs starts around 24 minutes in). After watching him play, I've decided that using B&C on the rock before Deku Toad is not worth it.
Haha, I plan to have a lot of it done by the time summer is over, but we'll see... If I'm still working on it when skyward sword comes out, well, I'll have to take a little break XD
From what I've gathered Skyward Sword appears to be like Wind Waker, but with the ocean replaced with a sky world with floating islands (and with the boat replaced by a large bird). I suspect there won't be much sequence breaking to be found in this game (though it'd be hilarious if someone found a Back in Time glitch virtually identical to the ones in WW and TP).
Clip into lakebed on GCN. Saves around 28 seconds in a single segment speed run and is easy. Should save 15 seconds in 100% run (hoping this along with other timesavers don't mess up the night cycle for poes later on in a run).
I got a pretty nice segment 7 today. Early Master Sword went very well, everything was great. Segment time came out to 1:43 the run time is up to 18:48
