Not sure where Exit could really help. Waterfall Cave I suppose?

Exit/Warp would help for the Waterfall, and Warp will help after you pick up the Rosetta Stone. I tried timing Exit after the stone, and given RNG, I believe you would lose time to get back to the stairs going down.

Quote:
Hell, I might even always do 3, because 3 Exits would help even more!

x_x I pray for your sanity.

I've never bothered to use it on Astos because even with "a very bad party" it took 7 attacks and I don't particularly care if he DOES cast Death.

Four Flare casts is 32 seconds (oy), so your method may be faster, even if he sneaks Reaper in (5 seconds?). One thing that could speed this battle up is buying 1 Iron Shield and getting 2 or 3 Defenders out of it? I wouldn't bother with 4, since you'll probably hit diminishing returns then. It would be an added benefit if you only got 2 Piscodaemons next to the Crown.

Quote:
There's a few encounters where it makes sense to cast, such as 6x Water Elemental.

Water Elementals are weak to Ice, but it's likely going to take 2 casts to kill them (this is the untested part I mentioned). Blizzara is a much faster cast though, so we're thinking 2 casts of Blizzara is still faster than 1 Flare, and even then the White Mage has to use Flare to potentially one-shot the Water Elementals.

Does Mage's Staff kill the pirates in one cast

Pirates have 24 HP, so yes.

Quote:
The Piscodaemons?

Probably not, since they have 84 HP and they resist fire. dn was aiming for a Fang in his non-equipment glitch route, and I told him one wasn't going to be enough if he got Fira or Blizzara. Two may kill them, but if you get bad damage rolls, it'll take three.

We're thinking the Mage's Staff/Black Robe will be useful for the few situations where weakness comes into play and you can't run. Eg: Water Elemental, Earth Elemental, Zombie Dragon, Ice Gigas, Green Dragon, etc.

Thanks for the donation incentive ideas.  I'll update those tomorrow.  And thanks for helping out Lag, Leno Smiley

Also, bizarrely considering someone acting out Patrick Stewart's recounting of the tale of Gilgamesh and Enkidu as an FF5 incentive Tongue
Moo! Flap! Hug!
First post updated with some new donation incentives.

Mercury: there's going to be a tracker again.  We could just use that to list the incentives, and you could link to it?  It's one less thing for you to have to keep up-to-date: http://sda.sorrowind.net/c4l

Lag: let me know what you want the final set of incentives for FF1 to be.

Hey folks. Last week I sent a care package to rinimt for the purposes of the marathon. Being British, it's difficult what we could send over - we wanted to make sure anything we sent was region-free. As such, there's a large focus here on DS/PSP stuff - because it's region free! However, I still went deep into the RPG Site/UFFSite archives and got some stuff over to you:

- Two copies of FF4: The Complete Collection for PSP - these are also rare promotional discs given to the press, Square employees etc - so there aren't many of them around. Work on all normal PSPs, though.
- Two sealed copies of FF:CC Echoes of Time for DS
- A sealed Crisis Core: FF7 Limited Edition (This was only available in Europe and is pretty damn rare sealed now)
- An Advent Children Tifa poster (no idea where this came from, but it's yours now!)
- One of the FF13 360 faceplates
- Two FF13-2 DLC download codes (one for each format)
- Four limited edition FF13-2 steel book cases
- Two 'The Last Story' posters hand-signed by Hironobu Sakaguchi

There's also one or two additional bits in there; I'm going by memory of what I put in, and I'm not 100% on some smaller items and so left 'em off the list. They may not be entirely worth giving away anyway, they're so minor, so I leave all that in rin's hands. In terms of credit stuff, it'd be absolutely lovely if you could credit RPG Site [rpgsite.net] and the admittedly now largely-dormant UFFSite [uffsite.net] on the credits page and/or shout us out on air. UFFSite in particular is getting a really exciting overhaul in the coming months, so we're excited about that. We'll heavily promote the whole marathon, so good luck. Smiley If there's anything else we can do, just shout.

With any luck these should be with rin by the end of the week, where she can verify all I've posted here for you, but I wanted to let y'all know anyway.

Very Awesome APZonerunner, very gracious for all the donations.  I am sure you will be getting several shoutouts during the marathon if not definitely at the end of the marathon when we are giving thanks.

The current FF1 donation incentives are fine. I've done a few runs with random parties/getting class upgrades and I'm happy with it.

APZonerunner: Awesome stuff; thank you!  Just to confirm: you're sending it to rini, and she's bringing it to Edmonton?

We'll certainly credit RPG Site!  If you want, we can credit UFFSite; I'm just worried that might do you more harm than good, since it's dormant (people would check it out, then never return).  What would you think about being credited as: <linked>RPG Site</linked> and the soon-to-be relaunched UFFSite <no link>?

I spoke with Andy, the Content Manager at Twitch. They are hyped for C4L, and are both going to include us in their weekly newsletter and rotate us onto the front page at various times throughout the marathon.

Are you excited? I sure am! Follow us @C4LMarathon, and get the word out however you can. Our banner, http://www.crystalsforlife.ca/C4L-Banner.jpg (ou en français, http://www.crystalsforlife.ca/C4L-French.jpg) looks awesome in a Twitch channel.

Now, I've done the whole shave-and-haircut thing; I feel like myself again, and I'm ready to hit JDRF's Corporate Engagement Breakfast tomorrow. I'll try to make us look good, or something...so, I'll try to avoid spilling on my shirt Wink

Poxnor for president?
Kupo!
Alright, just to confirm what APZonerunner said, I have received a package (absolutely amazing) prizes for the marathon~ Totally jealous of whomever wins these. Tongue Will be bringing them up with me next week. ^_^
Just a quick heads up in case I messed up the private messages I sent to Poxnor and Mercury.  Perlers I made have been shipped and should arrive between the 11th and 15th.  They are for games at the middle and end of the marathon, so shouldn't be too bad even if they show up a day late.

Links in case anyone else is curious what they are. :-)

Dual Head Hydra from FFMQ is already on the site, so nothing new there.

Pazuzu also from FFMQ:  http://i.imgur.com/SuWHDCo.jpg

and a couple smaller character sprites from FF VI.
Angry Esper Tera and Mog:  http://i.imgur.com/Ekm7rcQ.jpg

First off, I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful prizes that you have sent!  I have fallen behind in updating the prizes list, but we are in the process of rectifying that issue.

Come marathon time, most of the first post of this thread will be nuked, and all the relevant information will be placed at http://www.crystalsforlife.ca and on SMK's tracker that is linked from there (http://sda.sorrowind.net/c4l).

Edit: Okay, everything except prizes have been migrated to the new site and tracker (the first post in this thread is now mostly barren).  We'll fix this prize-listing disaster shortly.

Get hype, everyone!  Here comes the first of two tees that TheYetee will be selling during Crystals For Life, both of which are done by the amazingly talented Kari Fry!

Reverse Death Valley Bomb
Hi, I'm new to Final Fantasy, where is the emblem design from? Shocked

You dont see 2 chocobos and the moogle in the middle.
Reverse Death Valley Bomb
I do now! It's really well done I was just thinking of Leon's Lion Heart amulet and thought it came from something like that ><
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Oh, heh, DRsynj, I thought you were joking, so I didn't reply. Yeah, it's a play (intentional or unintentional) on the double-headed eagle from Byzantine and Russian heraldry, but in a Final Fantasy theme Smiley
Weegee Time
With a week to go, now's the time to kick promotion into high gear.  Get the word out, folks!

If you're not sure how, one thing you can do is take the marathon banner and use it as your Facebook cover photo.  There's a quickly edited version on the FB group to do just that.
OMG THAT IS THE SICKEST EMBLEM EVER. I want one! HYPE!
Russian Studies major here... I need one.
Everything's better with Magitek
I was just noticing that the Facebook event for this hasn't been shared by many people. I went ahead and invited a bunch of my Facebook friends to it; that way it'll show up as a reminder in their news feed. I'd encourage anyone else on Facebook to do the same. Here's a direct link to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/385342851561393/
Thanks for the reminder Essentia. I just shared it with a group I am a part of centred aroung FF.
