(alternately, could be a bidding war between "class change" vs. "no class change" -- my instinct says that a bidding war could be the better choice here, but I'm not sure)

I'm leaning this way as well. I'll even break from my mold and put the final call on it when I get the Floater (Levistone), and cut-off when I exit the Ice Cave. Traditionally, I always do the Citadel first because it has the Healing Staff and Gauntlets (helps on survivability, but I have ethers and the Judgment Staff on this route). No time would be added to the estimate, since it's the same amount of travel.
I want off the ride....

FF4 practice is going really well, new PB today of 3:40:30

YOU ARE KIDDING ME!! UGUSAHGOIMAPGOIAPHSGLKHSGAHSGLKJASFASDSF

well there goes that idea that FF4 was done for a while... Back to teh drawing board...

Also the optional bosses are a joke after the d machin grind. Just do them all before the final dungeon for padding/etc. between OP Rosa/Kain all of them are free as heck. It might be better to do Bahamut Before but... thats really not the point.

The rest of them are jokes. I'd definitely make an incentive to get the world's deadliest spoon.

And obda, what ring of hell did you get your cartridge from that it gives you this consistant of good luck?

Probably the 4th or 5th ring. Second battle D-machine searcher in the passage, 29 back attacks / surprise attacks total. I lost a minute on Antlion and a minute on Lugae. Also my Zeromus fight was pretty bad.

Getting the spoon sounds like fun, as that needs to be done pre-giant. Plus it gives edge something awesome to throw on turn one of the Zeromus fight. It would probably add  10 minutes or so to the run (Is it one or 2 trips through the Sylph Cave?)
SDA Speedruns: 1
Another update: Been working on 100% MQ. And it seems I can get the time down a bit further still. Just got a 2:55:56 last night that has room for improvement. Id say 2:50 would be pushing the lower limit.

I want to do a few things left with MQ before switching back to FF8.

I want to do 5-10 runs of each Any% and 100% without resets and jot down the best/average/worst times to get a better estimate on the estimated time to complete.

FF8 Route is done except for donation incentive stuff. Going to play through it again to doublecheck notes though.  Put any stuff in the notes in case of emergency stuff that needs to be taken care of.

Possible Donation Incentives for my games:

FF7:
Naming Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Cid (9-character limit)
Recruiting Yuffie/Vincent (Probably best to do it like we did at AGDQ, where if naming donations exceed a certain amount I recruit them - alas poor Vincent wouldn't see any action outside of cutscenes as my new route requires using Cid for my 3rd party member in Discs 2 & 3, though I might be able to use Yuffie for the North Corel train sequence)
Gold Saucer Date (Aerith, Tifa, or Barret - cutoff would be 1st visit to the Gold Saucer)
Playing the Mog House game at the Gold Saucer - very cute and very silly, might raise a couple of bucks
Showing the (optional) final Nibelheim flashback - basically shows the last part of the Crisis Core ending in 1997 graphics, people might care about it since CC is also in the marathon

FF9:
Naming Zidane, Vivi, Steiner, Dagger, Freya, Quina, Eiko, Amarant (7-character limit)
Singing Melodies of Life during the credits
Watching memorable ATE cutscenes (Vivi and Quina getting married in Conde Petie comes to mind)
Fighting Tantarian (not 100% on this as I'm told it messes with your stats - need to do some testing)
Any long-haired marathon attendees getting a Garnet-style haircut during that cutscene - probably not going to fly Tongue

KH2:
Not sure if it's worth having incentives for bonus stream games, but we could always charge $5 or so to show cutscenes, sing Disney songs, etc

If I was going (that is still up in the air), I could hold off cutting my hair that I have been growing for the past two years for this.

Great, even if I'm coming, I'm no longer subject to this xD
Nah, that was one of the saddest FMVs imho, so I'm not gonna copy that on my own head Wink

Maybe I should get my hair cut BEFORE the marathon then instead of after like I was considering... Tongue

If anyone is going to cut their hair, I think it has to be puwexil.  Or me.

First post updated with the new donation incentives Smiley
Good, my long, flowing locks were quivering in fear.  I'm one of those people who just looks better with long hair, so the amount I'd set for myself would probably be too steep anyway; unless an unusually rich troll were to pop up.
Hey Poxnor sent two packages to you yesterday.  Canada Post said about 6 days to reach your but who knows.  Also they are insured for up to $100 so if they are damaged let me know.  One package has the PSP games and the other has the super gameboy, FF III and FF V.  I'm going to send out another box tomorrow that will have a Gamboy Advanced and FF IV advanced in it.

Awesome, lizzie.  Thank you so much for your generosity Smiley  Those are going to be great prizes for the marathon!
Gimme some sugar Shaggy!

Deathfire: I'm sorry to hear that you're thinking you can't make it.  Is there a reason that you won't be able to attend that we could help with?  I thought you lived in Edmonton (or am I thinking of someone else from SDA?).

I live in Vancouver Smiley So I'd have to take a bus/train/plane. I think you're thinking of Naegleria.

Mainly timing and money issues. It all depends how much my courses cost. If they cost around 2k less for the semester, I can go. If its more than 2k, I probably won't have enough to make it there and back and have enough spending money to have a good time
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Ah, you're absolutely right -- it was Naegleria that I was thinking of.  We don't have enough ice cream in our house to let that guy come to the FF marathon Wink

If it turns out that you can come, just let me know Smiley

So, I just met with the Regional Manager and the Fundraising & Development Coordinator of JDRF. To say that they were excited would be the understatement of the year. We have our charity!

The meeting lasted more than an hour, and we discussed a tonne of things:
- They gave me fact sheets to use during our marathon;
- They will be donating bottles of water and fruit snacks for us;
- They're going to advertise our marathon through their extensive, international social media network;
- They're going to advertise our marathon in the Edmonton Sun (a local paper);
- They figure they can get us news coverage on all the major networks.  They wanted to know if any attendees have Type I Diabetes (T1D), or have a family member that does, because the news anchors would probably want to interview that person;
- They offered to help with any artwork or design, but I didn't really get into specifics;
- They will visit during the marathon to discuss their charity with the viewers;
- They offered to hook us up with an "ambassador" -- someone living with T1D, who could talk with the viewers (they wondered if we would prefer a young child, or someone more our age); and,
- They volunteered to send cooks to my place during the marathon to cook any food we purchase.

In short, they seemed fairly excited about this event Tongue

Awesome news!

I don't suppose they can also supply us with US passports? Tongue  My jaw hit the floor when I saw how much more work it is to get one of those compared to a US driver's license/state id card.

Hiho,

I unfortunately do not have anything major to contribute to this thread, and maybe it was already mentioned... I simply had to think of it while reading the first post:

FF games are (as mentioned) usually very lengthy and have a lot of idle-time. I personally really like watching these speedruns, but I usually have to do this in 1-2 hours chunks off the archive, since my attention span isn't too good (having never played a FF game other than 6 for more than a few hours doesn't help). What usually keeps me watching (=extends my attentions span) is when something interesting happens or the commentary is good... And to finally get to my point:

I suggest preparing a fair amount of trivia/information about the game/story/information about the company/what the game meant for the company/genre/etc. that can be presented whenever "nothing" happens.

Yeah, I just applied yesterday for mine. I cringed at the cost and I'm only getting the card (not the book).

If the passport card was good for more than just driving across the Canadian/Mexican borders, I'd be all over that too.
I'll just add my "THIS IS AWESOME NEWS!" to the pile.

I should ask them if they have sound equipment that we can borrow, since they do a large-scale fundraising gala each year (that I bet would need some of that equipment).  While I have a Yeti, which was what was used at the last SGDQ and could be used here, the feedback from viewers was that it wasn't ideal.

Was there ever a single one-stop list made for AGDQ about what equipment would be ideal for a marathon to have?  I found the following list, but I don't know if that covered the entire "wish list" for a marathon:

- 1 x Mixing Desk (Behringer X1222USB or similar)
- 1 x Shure SM58
- 1 x Omnidirectional DYNAMIC mic
- 3 x XLR Cables (in case one breaks)
- Mic Stand
- Stage Mic Stand
- Pop Filter or Wind Screen
- Headphones

I should also add that I know next to nothing about sound technology, so I'm in the dark about what all of this does and why it's needed/wanted.  If anyone can provide me with a Sound For Dummies intro to what I'm after, that could help.

I'm also going to try to get PDF copies of the fact sheets about JDRF that I can post here, so people can glance through them in advance.  That'll prevent fifteen people from scrambling to look at the fact sheet the first day of the marathon, and no one being able to plug the charity correctly on day one.

I don't know about the thoughts of the viewership in general, but for me, the audio quality from the Blue Yeti mic at SGDQ was fine.
