Hey, I'm getting more into the SMB community, and wondering if, specifically, Exo and breakdown would accept a request on Steam; Jintek told me here would be the most appropriate place to post. A couple more to discuss speedruns with would be cool, and you always need a couple more names above your own on the LBs :p

I'm pretty sure i accepted your friend request. Wouldn't be the first time steam screws up friend invites though. I'll delete you from my friends list so you can add me again.
Twitchpique Opiate
This is kinda getting irritating now; you're not showing up under invites sent after an add.. Any suggestions.?

Steam has been screwing up badly since all these new updates recently.  One of my big Dark Souls buddies can't even receive my requests.... Sad

And most of the time when I first try to login it logs me in into offline mode...  So I have to quit out and log back in again.  It's frustrating.

I tried to add you. Maybe that'll help.

Check Youtube, the original uploader has got a playlist full of these TAS. If he keeps on with this pace, it won't be long until he reaches 7-12x (I think nobody could ever achieve the hardest strats)

These runs are pure beauty.

Hey guys. I just wanted to know, if it's possible to schedule some Super Meat Boy races.
I've been looking for races for a while now, but no one seems to be on when I'm on.
I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I'm dying to race someone. The best way to finish an actual run, I say.
I also want to get more acquainted with the community.
I play on PC, so sorry, Xbox runners.

meat boy is distinct from most communities on srl in that the majority of the players are european (there's a big french following (<3), and pc games seem more popular in europe in general).  you'll have the most luck asking around at.... eh, i'd say 2 to 4 pm est/edt.  it gets really dead during us nights.

not gonna bother trying to schedule races here tho, since this thread doesn't include many active streamers.

If I were you, I would check the names of the previous runners at Speedrunslive and try to contact them through Steam Smiley
There was this Super Meat Boy live runners group http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197994397124/groups/ that I put together many time ago but I eventually lost interest in it (yeah, I know, I suck at racing :p).

(moderate) Advertising can sometimes work, but I have noticed that most people seems to have lost interest in the game long ago because it is old (they have moved on...just like me), so it is a "hit or miss" thing.
You may want to try Reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/Supermeatboy, as that page is still active (+ Dustforce races are organized on Reddit, why not Super Meat Boy ?)

Scheduling is not easy because everyone have different agendas, but the best may be do to just like the Dustforce races @Reddit: fixed day and time.
Was there ever a decision made about whether or not the clipping glitch counted as a separate category or not? I've been messing around with using the glitch and also doing glitchless runs, but I'm curious.

I'm not even sure if it's allowed, but if it is, it would definitely bbe count as a different category.

And about if it's allowed or not, I think it is but I'm lazy loking in the previous pages since we have discuss about it already.
I read the previous pages where it was discussed, but it didn't look like there was much agreement. The discussion just kind of abruptly stopped and changed topic after Exo posted that incredible run.

So I end up going through it again(even though I said I wouldn't Tongue ), Mike said that it would be in the least a separate category, pretty much 80% of the SMB community were against it, but unfortunately, since Mike is an admin and he's taking care of rules and stuffs like that, I assume it's legit but will be consider a different category.

Though, the reason I would personally be against it, without going in the details and without trying to start another war here, is that, this isn't what I would consider as a normal glitch, this is really a problem that alter, in a non-traditionnal way, the gameplay, a glitch like wall-slide and when you clip through the ceiling or the floor in place where door closes and you jump at the same time, etc. are simply glitch that require a normal action use in a unusual way(like frame-perfect). that actually require something that wasn't even in the game, unlike wall jump and the clipping that require to jump and that's all. But this isn't my decision, so I'll pm mike to come and answer in this thread himself to confirm it. Thanks again for the job you're all doing the admins Cheesy ,  it's always nice to have answer and omnipresence, that's what makes SDA awesome.

Edit: PM sent!

Isn't there a rule somewhere that says that PC games should run at 100% speed all the time ? (ie no framerate manipulation ?)
Using the ALT glitch is basically freezing the game (<=> 0 fps) for it to catch later.

By the way, how far we are from having an IL table for this game  ?
I would really like to see one, after all this time and runs. People have many many runs to submit (Exo alone probably has all Meat Boy ILs recorded), shall we start a "fresh" list to see what is left to do ?
Main Work!!!
Mike said that he's siding with not allowing it but he included breakdown in the pm so he could also weight on this, but I think this will be disallowed.

Yeah Kaede, I think this would be an awesome idea actually, I though we already had one but yeah, we should do one Smiley !!!
Honestly, it's a lot more fun and satisfying to play without the glitch. I'm still probably going to mess around with it to see the "fastest" time, but I guess I won't worry about making it into something submittable.

This IS actually the fastest strat for this level, your only mistake was cutting back slightly to jump off the block.  Telesniper thinks this strat perfected can hit 6s territory.
The WIP TAS gets sub 7 by about a frame on that level

yeah, but taku's strat is actually theoretically feasible for a single-segment, as opposed to having to both land on and jump off (without losing velocity) a one-pixel safe spot in the middle of a bunch of syringes... and good luck not holding back a bit for that.

problem is, so taku's vid does a couple walljumps instead of the dumb syringe jump, right?  1. hit the block to the right, 2. walljump left, then 3. walljump back right.  so you perform #2 and land on the wall in preparation for part 3.  well, since the level is silhouetted it's kinda hard for me to tell where on the wall is safe?  the top part seems like it should just be a solid mass of syringes but there's a phantom block there (that my vid lands on), but there's a set of syringes below it that can still kill you, and since the whole level is silhouetted i'm not actually sure where they are, just that I almost always seem to hit them.  and you're moving so fast from the fall that it's really hard for me to just do the same thing consistently, since I can't tell whether i'm too low or too high or what's really going on at all.

also, tas strat looks inferior.  i should probably wander over to tasvids and mention that and the 4-1 thing.

You can use the level editor and figure out what is going on.

You should PM https://www.youtube.com/user/KilayeFr?feature=watch on youtube, the maker of these TAS WIPs, and tell him every strat improvement you think could be done.

Hi everyone,

I'm working on the TAS of the any% run, and I've finished all the levels.
I would really appreciate to have a feedback from IL speedrunners, as I may have missed some faster strats for some levels.
I already know about improvements on 4-1 and 2-8 (thanks Vorpal). Also, there is a possible (very tricky) jump on stage 6-2 from the two-blocks platform to the right wall on our way back, which may save some time.

I'm open to every suggestion Smiley

EDIT:  When doing the TAS, I noticed that the spawning position of meat boy is not the same every time. Although the variability is very small, it can lead to one-frame differences, which might explain for example why people get different times on 1-18. Also, there is a variability on the cycle of saws and other elements in the game.

Is it some subpixel/subframe carryover, like how in some NES games the subpixel variables don't get cleared on despawn and spawn?
Or if SMB uses floating point values, can it be to do with FP inaccuracies?
(Alternatively maybe SMB is just not very well programmed Smiley )

Also, since your current TAS is essentially segmented (you kill yourself at the start of each level to make it sync stable and splice the footage to look like it was really continuous), will you manipulate to take advantage of these tiny starting condition changes or only if it saves a cycle?

I really don't know what is causing this. I cannot use the ramsearch/ramwatch because the relevent memory sections does not appear for some reason.

I did it only once on stage 1-16 to get ahead of the last saw, which is only rarely possible.
