How many shines have you got at the moment?
hi
OK guys, here's the deal

For now, I'm putting this on hold. On hold. Not cancelled. I hope to finish it in the future, but

1) I don't have the time right now to work on a run that is of this proportion and length
2) I don't really like the run I have taped. I figure if its gonna take this long, it really should be good. I've tried taping a few more segments and then I'm really just never satisfied with it
3) There's still something wrong (game glitch) with a Noki Bay blue coin and until I can figure it out I couldnt get that coin ever (yeah this is a minor point but still worth noting)

What I AM going to work on for now is a SS pure run of this game. Hopefully this will

A) get me motivated back to doing this 100% run and
B) give me somewhere to start off, doing this run as a first speedrun was NOT a good idea

Sorry for not updating and in general being lazy. I still have good hopes for this run and for the one i'm going to do first

Hopefully you guys understand Smiley

hey hey hey!!
darn, i was going to do ss after i finished my PM run.  =P  but do watever you want, i can choose a dif run (can't really find my game anyway)
hi
go ahead, there's always room for improvement :p

anyway this is going good so far, I had time to work on some stuff today

basically I'm just trying to match as much as possible in the other run and then improve, I dont want to have too much thats worse than the other run even if the time is better

the most annoying thing about the run is the 8 or so minutes of crap at the beginning, whenever you restart (this game has more cutscenes than OOT in the beginning).

the biggest timesaver is just going to be getting from point a to point b as fast as possible, using the wet slide in combination with the divejump.

I would love to do pianta village first but I realized you need Yoshi so the earliest it can be is fifth :/ I've got the lava trick down though :p

Other annoying bits/where else i'm looking for suggestions

1) Ricco Harbor obstacle course, I hate this course and its hard to do fast, plus the other run makes this great jump on the gears that I'm trying to pull off :p
2) Bianco Hills in general, i'm pretty sure the fastest way at the beginning is jumping on the small windmill up to the white ledge, but there's also the rope and jumping from the ground as possibilities
3) Pinna Park red coins..AGHHH! I hate them. So much. I've been using the route in the other run but the whole jumping on the first ship is annoying
4) Something I've been investigating, at least this happened with the 120 shine file in which cutscenes are skippable, I had just beaten the bowser in Pinna Park and then went to "exit level", and it put me in front of the shine, skipping the cutscene. If only this worked on a new file...
A pure speedrun will probably look pretty cool.
Only too bad that you put the 100% on hold, since i never finished the game 100% and then I could maybe use it as a guide.
But I wish you good luck with your SS speedrun. I will start thinking of some strategies (but I'm not really an advanced player so dont expect too much.)  Wink
hey hey hey!!
i wish you luck
So bulbax, what is you time goal for your ss pure? I'll be looking forward to it.
hi
Sub-the other time <_<
hey hey hey!!
sub wat time?
hi
The run that's already up (it's like 1:59 something I think)
It's "1:59:49"
Wait, that one is segmented (and extremely good).
A ss run which is faster than this one would be a must see for me!!!! Shocked
Same here. That would be more than enough to get me to watch.
hey hey hey!!
i would love to see that!
I'm looking forward to watching this run too Cheesy
It won't be as good as a 120 shine one though.
Yes, I approve with that Sad
It took me really long to get all of the shines, so it would be very relaxing to see all the shines being collected without moving a single finger^^
Well good thing he didnt give up on it.

Yup good point
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I too am glad he hasn't given up.  I am greatly looking forward to this speed run.  It'll allow me to know how to get all of the shines. ;3
hi
nope, I will return to it at some point :x

anyway as far as SS pure goes, trying to figure out if there's any way to exploit the casino slot that moves together and king boo's roulette as well. also scrubbing sirena beach kills my fingers, gotta find a better way to do it :/

and otherwise just trying to do some things consistently that are annoying otherwise (jumping onto the arch is annoying in particular)

I think an ss run of this game could probably beat the segmented run quite comfortably if done well.

There are a lot of tricks that Dragorn doesn't use and just from playing around i beat his Bianco Hills time by a  minute or so (whether i could keep this up for a whole run is a different story).

Mainly, for the hillside cave secret shine he takes a very long route when it is very easy to wall jump and hover up to the cave.
Speed is the key.
And don't forget the trick in Ricco Harbor, to get the shine in the cage without the rocket nozzle.
I have been doing a lot of work on Bianco Hills recently. Here are some time savers (keep in mind that i am working with PAL);

1) I always dive jumped and slid down the path at the start before flipping onto the cable then sprung upwards before hovering onto the wall. If done well you can just dive forward and you'll be right at the cable to get onto the bridge. You can wall jump and hover up the windmill and should be able to catch the propellor as it comes around. It is also imperative that you clean up the Piranha Plant first to get rid of those things. Mainly this will give you the freedom to deal with the plant as quickly as possible.

2) Essentially the same beginning, however a tighter dive jump and then hover across the logs and wall jump up to the cave.

3) Same beginning get the first coin on the wall then the one in the arch. Then a back jump and hover to the third then down to the top of the building for a fourth then the one on the cable then jump back up and wall jump of the side of the buliding and hover to get the sixth then hover down between the sails and drop through the seventh and wall jump and hover up to the eighth.

These are the main areas for improvement. I was able to get 14:57 for Bianco Hills by my own timing and quite a few mistakes.

The secret levels are going to cause massive problems in a single-segment run.
Speed is the key.
You can play the PAL version in 60Hz mode, right?

I can, at least.
