> I think I had better luck with the green one.

All bloopers go at the same top speed if you hold the stick forward, but the green turns the sharpest and loses the least speed offroad (you have to ride the cement a bit). Always use green. A good time will be about 25, don't take a risk to go faster.

The big water sprays (A+R jumps, aka spam sprays) are god for Scrubbing Sirena. Try to get somewhere around 2:10, or better. (it can be done in 230 with some luck, so with practice, a 220 would rock)

> 999 coins anyone

Pretty sure after a certain number of enemies, they stop giving coins. Similar thing happens in some othere levels with respawning enemies. (Then again, it was NOT fixed in others, like bullet bills in pinna and King Boo's lackeys in Sirena. But yeah, I don't think there's 999 in Bianco...)

Good luck, it'd be nice to see videos... easier to comment on than reading text. (are you planning to redo segments if/when a new suggestion comes up?)

Speaking of which...I'm pretty sure it is possible to immediately get 999 coins in the plaza. (after first shine)
If you save some one stuck in the sludge they will give you a coin. If you spead sludge around them they will fall back in allowing you to repeat this useless procedure.
hi
like the toad next to the lighthouse maybe?

and I did record segment 2 but something messed up and it didn't show up right on the tape so I'm gonna have to do it over

(are you planning to redo segments if/when a new suggestion comes up?)

probably, if it's significant enough

Good luck, it'd be nice to see videos

how would I show you videos before the run is done and sent off? I don't have one of those capture card things...

my best sirena beach time is like 2:15...aiming for less than 2:05 in the run (maybe 2:10). <3 this shine...I wish they made one for pianta village like in goopy inferno <_<

I also invented my own run for sirena beach hotel red coins, because that run on the site you posted is really difficult to pull off (spin jumping up a floor is so hard)...I can do like 3:40+ remaining I think.

What I do is: front coin (1) wall kick up to second floor (2) back down bathroom (3) into men's bathroom and up through water leak, coin in next room (4), exit, third floor coin (5) into the shine 3 area (6), through the secret floorboard in here to that dolphic poster room (7) and then down (8)

a lot of frantic running though. probably will change it.

hi
segment 2 is done Smiley

still missed the damn first windmill platform but I don't care...getting it is so hard.

due to the camera angle being messed up I fell in midair after hovering too high over red coin 7 in episode 4...but again not much time lost because i'd have to jump from the other windmill rotating thing anyway.

and shadow mario seriously wtf (good news this time). I must've got him 1/3 of the way down the beginning path.  I got him so fast I said screw the blue coins so I'm gonna have to do the circles in episode 8.

24:30 or so is my time for this segment.

w00t though, glad this is done, onto #3 where i'm sure bob-ombs can blow up those blue coin baskets.

edit: wrong x_x damn that would've saved some time
hi
bump

i've been extremely busy lately, so i haven't had much time to work on this, but I still am

segment 3 is fairly simple, the only thing is episode 3 I really don't have a good route

one coin is located high up above the ships, and is only reachable by either
a) jumping on top of the rotating ship
b) jumping from the platform where the shine is

the former is difficult and not efficient, the latter is out of the way...no amount of spin jumping from the girders will reach it.

I really need help with a route here, though...also is there a pattern to the ships rotating? getting those two coins is insanely annoying.
hi
reminding everyone that this is not dead, I will continue working on this during april break and possibly over my four day weekend coming up

I may redo segment 2 just because some of it just looks sloppy, but I dont want to because some parts are the best i've done...and it's my best time so far
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Just letting you know that I am eagerly awaiting the improved runs for This Game and Paper Mario, hehe. ;3

But, if you don't really want to redo some segments, then don't, especially if you don't think you can do any better.

Good luck. ;3

I must say, I did not like SM:S all that much (edit: 2 100% playthroughs)... however, i suppose any platformer can be speedran

I haven't followed this topix/your run's progress, but i do know that i'll be watching it as soon as its online Smiley
Anyway keep it up, 100% SM:S is a bitch to crack (even without a timer :D). I hated how the camera never allows you to 'feel' where you really are.
Hey, just wanted to register my interest in seeing this run :). I haven't played SMS, but I adore Mario runs in general, and this is a beautiful game that deserves a full run. Anyway, good to hear you're steadily making progress, and I'm sure the finished product will be worth the wait. Cheesy
hi
Well, vacation is here at last. Good to see some are still interested.

The second segment I am 90% sure I am going to leave as is. It's not worth improving...but i'll watch it again to make sure.

That segment isn't very interesting, either. If I can pull #4 off as I did in a test run it will look great because the timing is very good (hopefully) Smiley (believe it or not the yoshi river is the last thing in that segment, but it's short).

Man, though, this is a big project for my first speedrun ever. Should've picked a shorter run to start with. Oh well :p I have an idea for another run that's a lot shorter that i'm thinking of doing after this if I want to continue (Luigi's Mansion low% - no money except the boo's crown).

I am going to look over everything this weekend and I will hopefully begin recording again later this coming week. And then i'll work on this on weekends after break if necessary.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'm very interested in seeing this run, and I'm just wondering one thing...

What would you expect the finished time to be? I know you can't tell exactly for sure, especially if significant new tricks are discovered, but a 'ballpark figure' would be good.

(Hey, this might even inspire me to eventually do a speed-run during the summer. My Second Sight one never ever got of the ground.)
hi
Sub-6 hours

I haven't timed it at all yet, i'm aiming more towards sub-5 but I dunno if it's gonna be that fast. There's a lot of simple downtime like the intros to each episode etc that add a lot of time.

hi
All right, here we go.

Segment 1 -> already done, everything prior to Bianco Hills including the coin in the jail
Segment 2 -> done, really small chance of redoing, Bianco Hills episodes 1-7, episode 3 red coins, get about half the blue coins
Segment 3 -> Durians, Pinna Park 1-5, episode 2 red coins as well as the 100 coins before episode 5.
Segment 4 -> Everything Yoshi, timing should work out that the ship comes right when I do the nice leap out of the sewer Smiley
Segment 5 -> The rest of Pinna Park and a few blue coins in the plaza. Could’ve combined with segment 3 but there’s two things I do in the Yoshi go Round (3 really) that are risky.
Segment 6 -> Really quite simple, this is just everything with the Turbo and Rocket nozzles in the plaza, as well as sewer coins and beach shines. I throw in the easy part of Gelato Beach (1-3 plus the two secret shines) just to get it over with.
Segment 7 -> The rest of Gelato Beach…sand bird needs a damn segment by itself, I swear. This is also the first real 100 coin route…those were fun to make Smiley
Segment 8 -> Pianta Village and some crap that’s out of the way. Simple crap, that is. No messing up on that hopefully…village underside is bad enough.
Segment 9 -> Simply Sirena Beach and the next annoying 100 coin route
Segment 10 -> The last three shines in Bianco Hills, all of which are extremely time consuming…
Segment 11 -> Ricco Harbor…oh and that one X blue coin…my 100 coin route here is awful, looking for suggestions
Segment 12 -> Noki Bay, another bunch of tricky blue coins. Stop at episode 6 to avoid seeing a cutscene twice.
Segment 13 -> Rest of Noki Bay and the painful Corona Mountain blue coins…then cashing everything in
Segment 14-> Saved the best for last Smiley Pachinko. And the final battle (which is dead easy).

So that’s it. Hopefully beginning taping again tomorrow.

Areas that will appreciate suggestions/comments: (beginning with the segments that come first in the run)

(#) is a blue coin while any number is normal coins.

1) Pinna Park Pirate Ship Red Coins -> POSSIBLE ROUTE: Clam -> coin 1 at platform to ships, right ship coin, drop down for 2nd blue coin under the blue thing, over to tree to get back up, climb into box, blue coin, red coin 3, wall kick up, hang to coin 4 under here, climb structure to where shine is, midair blue coin, girder blue coin, coin 5 on 2nd ship (without falling down), last coins and shine.

2) Gelato Beach 100 Coins

Ducks to east – 5
Fruit hut coins and blue coin (9) – 17
2nd level ducks – 28
Coins where secret shine is– 32
Bash big watermelon once – 33 (do birds 17/18 and above watermelon 16 now?)
Gap in hill to the west + blue (13) – 35
High up above gap + blue (14) – 39
At least 3 from the dive – 42 (skip maybe)
Under watermelon hut + blue (6) – 49
Spray the hut – 50
Ducks to west – 60
Island trees and swing + blue (19 and 2) – 77 (turbo back over to hover nozzle)
Near rocket nozzle + blue (12) – 83 (get RN)
Above the hut using RN + blue (26) – 91 (also get duck in tree for blue (25)
Bring the closer watermelon to hut + carry coconut for blue (30) – rest of coins (usually can get 9)
Less than 91 coins prior to here – bash watermelon a few times before (faster than dive coins?)

3) Pianta Village 100 Coins (in episode 1)

Coins -> 6 mushrooms @ 8 coins each -> 48…13 in tub = 61, 9 on nose = 70. Crates near lake = 82, 18 crates on the right end of town = 100!
Beginning with mushrooms counterclockwise from fruit tree, then crates, then bath area.

4) Pianta Village Fluff Festival and Secret Shine

Underside coin
M on the wall here-> hover so you’re hanging onto the bottom (unsure, risky and means redoing a lot)
Go up through gate here, coin on the tree, then the blue coins and red coin around the tall grass, then the fruit tree coin, bath, beehive, boxes, and up the tree.
Avoid the rocket nozzle, and use the hover nozzle to slide up the tree. When you come back to spray the sun, get the rocket nozzle and the bird that’s there, so if the bird coin drops on the ground, you can get it and jump right back up to where you were. Smiley

5) Sirena Beach 100 Coins (in episode 7)

Outside M (22) + torches – 7
Ground floor stuff – 31
Triangles and X’s now (23-26)
2nd floor coins and ghosts in between – 37
Then same on the 3rd floor – 43
Get the M on floor 3 now (27)
In the attic getting coins 28 and 15 – 61
In the sauna – 72
Down through all rooms starting from the third floor – in all, 103 coins (skip 3 boos)
During this, get the Dolphic poster room (7), pineapple room (13), behind there (9), two doors down from pineapple room (11), and the wall shine there is (10).

6) Bianco Hills 100 Coin Route in episode 8 – start with rocket nozzle

Pianta on white tower coin (19)
On the lake – 4
Under the mesh – 8 and (16)
On the ropes above the path – 17
From the plant – 18 (on the way back to town)
Flower patch near X’s- 30
One X, over the wall, clean Pianta, other X (8, 9, 15)
Just the one coin from each pokey here – 32
Another flower patch – 44
Alcove in the hill (18), tall windmill coin (24)
Two more flower patches – up to 70 coins
The two circles (22/23) (beat Shadow Mario first, while waiting for shine do this)
Bird on the high platform over the arch building (26), now get Yoshi
Yoshi’s blue butterfly (25) and bees (30) round off this level…the rest of the coins come from bees and if necessary, across the river there are up to 15 extra coins.
Pokey on top of the windmill (17) and down to the shine

Noki Bay I’m using primarily coins from the underwater area…I may take a few from above ground.
7) Ricco Harbor has no easy 100 coin route. None. There’s a ton of coins on the water, but even the turbo nozzle falls short unless you jump to get them, which is very time consuming. And you can’t get them with the blooper, because then you can’t get off.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
All I can say, is I hope the run is as good as you make it sound, hehe. ;3

And I am quite sure it will be. ;3
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
All your enthusiasm towards doing this almost makes me want to repurchase Sunshine to do it all over again. Keyword: almost, there's still too many things I didn't like; but watching your speedrun'll be a no brainer! Cheesy

*looks forward to it*
hi
Thanks Smiley

Been watching your Yoshi's Island runs also, they're great Smiley

I found a neat little trick that allows for two koopas in episode 4 of Pinna Park to jump on the same spot therefore they both die in one ground pound. Combining the cutscenes here still saves a lot of time.

edit: decided I will continue to practice and restart this segment
.Great Bulbax! Keep up the good work. I look forward to see it when it's done :).
Long comments are good in my opinion, keep them coming!
And good luck on improving the third segment, you'll apparently need it

hi
not important cuz 3 is done Smiley
Take This! Ultra Frisbee-Disk Attack!
Damn, that's just terrible luck with the segment you were working on there. Still, it takes so much time doing one segment let alone the entire game, so just be as positive as you can with a game that will take a while to run, although I admit I've felt the same way in trying to run Sunset Riders on SNES, there are some parts where it is not too hard, but something always happens to screw it up for me, so I know exactly how you feel, so just forget about it, be in a calmer frame of mind when you are running the game, and see what happens; maybe you'll complete the segment...
hi
you won't believe it.

it happened again.

honestly, I don't know.

what I did was I got the 100 coins and left, then came back and Yoshi wanted a different fruit. I could not find that one either, yet I found the one from the last time and found this one last time.

episode 3 strategy was great too Sad I didnt fall after red coin #2 like i do intentionally so I got the girder coin faster.
I'm not sure but isn't there a possibility to complete the segment before that mistake happens and to do that at the beginning of the next seg? Or would that cost too much time?
hi
I dunno, i'm highly considering splitting this segment up, but I don't really want to have too many segments, in case I hit a big problem later on I want to be able to split those if necessary.

Besides, I already split this from the rest of Pinna Park.

I dunno if the locations are random or not...I just kinda spray everywhere.

Only twice i've had the problem though. Never before.

............... .......
Damn dude, segment 3 of your run sounds rough.

The best advice I can offer you is this, as I've went through kind of the same thing with the first segment of my DK64 speedrun. (It's the only segment I can redo, so I had to make it perfect. I've also thrown my N64 controller in frustration.)

If you've got your segment memorized to the point that remembering what to do is no longer a problem, but the problem is instead randomness, then the only thing you can do is just keep redoing it until it works out in your favor.  :-/

I know it sucks when your time and effort is ruined, but hang in there, and a good segment will surely come of it.
