I think a mario galaxy run will be done by the time this one is.
CTTR Master and Spyro 2 Master
Runs of all the new Wii games would be nice. Especialy Kororinpa done really fast in 100% Shocked I was thining on any% for this but it's really not that easy.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I am planning to get Super Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Paper Mario, and of course Metroid Prime: Corruption whenever I have the money.

My first Priority is Super Paper Mario. :3

That game looks great.

But it is true.  VHS runs will no longer be accepted soon which kind of sucks.  Which probably means Speed Run submission might be cut in half.

But, whatever.
hey hey hey!!
im going to put a post here too.  are you still working on this 100% bulblax?
good luck on that, what are there, 120 blue coins? thats going to take a lot of planning

Hello everybody,

so from what I've noticed, Super Mario Sunshine is not exactly the hottest thing here on SDA? Frankly, I think that is quite the shame. In my opinion, this game is absolutely amazing. It has very atmospheric stages, great jumping mechanics, as well as awesome platforming elements and level design. In short, pretty much everything I can ask of a platformer. Which is why I love speedrunning this game.

My current single-segment record is 1:40:36 (not even close to WR, if you're thinking that) . As you can see, this beats the segmented run on SDA by quite a bit. So what does that tell us? It's easy: this game's submissions are painfully outdated. Seeing how SMS is a main entry in the Mario franchise, that is a shame.

I haven't considered submitting yet, simply because I know I can do better than my personal best and I'm just generally pretty hard on myself. At some point, I might actually get a good run done, though.

So how about it, guys? Have some of you considered running this game, but haven't come around to doing it? Are you interested in knowing some details about speedrunning this game?
I would be glad to assist anybody who wants to learn this game (any% that is). I would also provide tips and tricks for people who already speedrun this, but are interested in some advanced techniques and strategies. If you've got any questions regarding this matter, just hit me up and I'll try to help the best I can.

I would really love it to see more people running this game. I understand that some things about it seem weird at first, but if you know the details, you can often work your way around problematic shines and other things.

Looking forward to some activity in this thread Smiley .

there are tons of people speedrunning this game already, they just don't post here or anything like that; it's not because the game is boring to speedrun like you think we think

Oh, that is weird.  I recently asked in the SDA IRC whether there were people speedrunning SMS and the answer was that nobody really does. So this kinda makes me doubt that there are tons of people running the game, but then again I might be wrong on that.

In any case, it's no big deal whether I assumed incorrectly or not. The sheer fact that this thread is on page 1 again is good enough, for starters.

there's no need to bump threads if there isn't any updates about it; if there are any news about it in the sda community then they'll bump it themselves. As of now, there is no reason to keep this on page 1 and shove off a more recent game that IS updated unless there's really something of importance. Is OoT on page 1? No, but it's very actively spedran. mugg1991's stream channel frequently does sunshine runs, but a lot of sunshine speedrunners are japanese nonetheless, which may be why you don't think there're many runners of this punishing game.

Hmm, that's strange. I thought these threads were about discussing the game and its players and not only when someone happens to get a run for SDA. I think he (HiddenPower13) is aware of the SMS players at twitch seeing as he streams regularly himself along with Nkiller and with a few other western players. Nevertheless, Sunshine isn't very popular here at SDA which is what he said. It has yet to be featured at a charity marathon unlike the other 3d home console Mario's too.
updates as in, new tricks, and maybe new runs by sda members; I apologize, I probably came out as very negative and offensive. But yeah, it isn't popular at SDA, and that's just how it is, it's not necessarily because everyone hates it or anything (which the poster seemed to imply we don't care about the game), but also as I mentioned, most of the speedrunners are japanese and aren't around SDA. I personally care about watching runs for it, but haven't really gotten around to it and don't typically run mario games (as you can tell by my screenname).
Since the term WR was mentioned but not disclosed, here are just some comparisons between WR's and SDA's current times:

WR (any%) - 1:33:01, by chibi (single segment)
SDA (any%) - 1:52:35, by Thiradell
WR (100%) - 4:11:22 (can't spell out the name) (single segment)
SDA (100%) - 5:10, by Doodan (single segment)

There are also other categories for this game that have been run, like 78 shines (all shines except blue coin and delfino plaza) and 96 shines (all shines except blue coins). However, I don't know if those would ever be considered appropriate SDA categories or not.

The reason I'm posting these times is to give current/future runners of this game an idea for a goal to reach if they feel they have a new run to submit to SDA for this game. Most people who currently run the game probably have a good idea of the top times, but for those who don't know any records outside of SDA (I myself being one of those people for a long time), this thread provides those with that information. That is all.
Ready? Set...
@doicm - Where did you find those world records?

Main Work!!!
I have a 1:38:35 record but since I was very far from the WR, I had no motivation to submitting here. This game has so much competition that if someone submit a run the isn't around 1:34 max, it probably won't be accepted(but until then we'll keep the old record because the gameplay is insane without the new strat.)
Dude, a 1:38:35? That's a super sweet time. Did you do Pianta Village first or last?
Also, I kinda doubt we'll even get close to 1:34 or anything like that any time soon. The optimisation required for that kind of time is just insane. But on the other hand, should we really let the current submitted run stay as it is? I mean, it's a segmented run and doesn't even remotely come close to the current single-segment WR, so that is definitely a hefty thing right there.
No need to take it down; it's clear from the date that it's very outdated. If we take this run down for this reason, then we might as well take down a third of the site's runs. When someone submits a single-segment run that easily beats it, then it should be taken down

nkiller has a link to them on his twitch page.

kirbymastah is correct: a good chunk of the runs on SDA are outdated and already beaten. However, SDA is interested in quality submitable runs. Even if someone has beaten the time, SDA has different standards for video quality submission (as well as an in-depth verification process to make sure as best as possible that the times are legitimate). The runs stay up because they have passed those requirements. However, it'd be relatively easy for someone to submit a quality run that beats the current times, but the current runs do stay up until a new quality run is posted.
Main Work!!!
I did it first,
At the moment I'm putting more time on amnesia, Super meat boy(which I'll let go soon since Exo is redoing his run) and Zelda ALTTP but once they'll be done, I'll restart practicing SMS and I'll try to sub 1:34 and probably submit even if I get a sub1:35, I know the improvement asked there are insane but that's what make good to insanely good speedrun.
