Do you like my routes of what stars to get in order so far? It's like up to Segment 3, and 33 stars. I hope you like them, It's unusual, but it sounds pretty nice to me. The thing about the Sunshine Isles star being the 8th star (useful in the 80 star run) is so you will be near the 8 star door to unlock mario right after you get the 8th star.

DS Dictator

It's been a while since I last played through the game. I usually have segment 1 with only the rabbit chase for the front door castle so that when I start segment 2 (the first set of stars) I don't have to go through the 2 minute cutscene.

If you produce a 150 star run I can make a simple table on Microsoft word and see what it looks like in comparision. It has a bit more depth than the N64 version making route planning a bit hard at times.

Mario has better Long Jumping & Triple jumping skills than Yoshi but there are some stars only Yoshi can get. Yoshi does have an option to start off as a Capped player during a course which is useful on both Snowman's Land and Cool Cool Mountain.

Here is a 50 Star TAS done by WaddleDX, it is a few months old now but it might be useful for fast strats. The videos can be watched without an account despite being on Nicovideo. The TAS itself is very likely to be a test run (and the run itself doesn't save warp AFAIK).

The run itself never collects Luigi but it was also possible for Mario to get the TTM's Lonely Mushroom Star without using the cannon (very difficult to do though).

I noticed Whomp's Fortress Switch Star and Slip Slidin' Away are not with their courses' other stars in Zaito's route. Why is this?

(If you don't already know, Whomp's Fortress contains a Mario cap before rescuing Mario. I believe it only appears on certain stars, but I'm pretty sure star 1 is one of them. The same thing happens with Big Boo's Haunt's Luigi cap and Hazy Maze Cave's Wario cap, though they appear regardless of the selected star.)

I didn't know that (problary wasn't looking ). That also makes it possible to use the owl to get to the "top of the fortress"-star.

Today, I was entering and exiting the castle as Yoshi to try to find glowing rabbits. I found that it's possible for two glowing rabbits to appear at once. I thought that might be significant for a segmented 150-star speedrun.

Note: I had 118 stars at that point. I'm pretty sure the glowing rabbit appearance chance goes up as you collect more stars - they're extremely rare when they first appear (which I think is at around 60-70 stars or so), but I've encountered them relatively easily after obtaining 100+ stars.

For a segmented run, it would probably be a good idea to manipulate at least one glowing rabbit in each segment that starts as Yoshi after 80 or so stars (if any such segments exist), and for any remaining rabbits, do repeated short segments until you catch all 8.

A question: Do the glowing rabbits appear if you have not collected any minigame keys?

You need the mini-game key from each rabbit to trigger their Glowing appearance. It's possible to get one rabbit to glow more than once.

Yoshi could solve the problem but I use him earlier to collect the last important stars and it's before Mario unlocks the 50 star door. Also getting hit would be a huge problem in that course because the caps are far apart.

It is better to have another Segment:
Segment 26
Switch to Luigi
Get the Final Minigame Key

You need each minigame key to make the game 100%. And Luigi's Last Minigame Key requires 150 stars, and you end the Game after Star 150. So, you should do another Segment for the Final Key. Then, that ends the speed run.

Yoshi could solve the problem but I use him earlier to collect the last important stars and it's before Mario unlocks the 50 star door. Also getting hit would be a huge problem in that course because the caps are far apart.

It is better to have another Segment:
Segment 26
Switch to Luigi
Get the Final Minigame Key

You need each minigame key to make the game 100%. And Luigi's Last Minigame Key requires 150 stars, and you end the Game after Star 150. So, you should do another Segment for the Final Key. Then, that ends the speed run.

Oh please don't include all of the Mini-game rabbits keys for 100%. All of the 3D Mario games are focused on the Number of Stars/Shines collected. The original 120 star run didn't end with Mario meeting up with Yoshi and learning the special triple jump, so why should we need the mini-game rabbits?!

Stars > Rabbits.

From the route I only pick up 2 fresh rabbits out of 20 something. They do not make a difference to the main game, it's more for the secondary menu which is only needs to be unlocked once before a data corruption.

The run itself never collects Luigi but it was also possible for Mario to get the TTM's Lonely Mushroom Star without using the cannon (very difficult to do though).

Well, I watched the run and liked it. As long as anyone can put this on YouTube and remove the signals that keep crossing across the screen, it will be better.
