Shabadoo.
Hey guys, first-timer here on SDA but been reading up on and following most of this thread and the Strider 2014 speed-running efforts; thanks for all the info you've put out. With the OoB glitch I've found on PC you can hold left and mash right on the arrow keys to make the glitch a little less stressful on the hands. Also, question - What's the most reliable 'sweet spot' for hitting the OoB Glitch? It's been eating me up inside.

EDIT: Been fooling around with the Slide off ledges, the Slide-in-Air as Scyther called it. On PC you can easily perform it (and I mean with complete reliability) by releasing down mid-slide. Again I'm doing this on PC so all you have to do, from any length to the edge, as long as you're mid-slide, is let go of down while sliding. Again, to do the SiA easily: Slide, then release down before going off the ledge.

Shabadoo.
Ok, I've finished a tutorial video for easily performing an SIA, here's my video tutorial (sorry for stealing any of your thunder Scyther!):

Yo yo. Just read through this entire thread and watch a few speedruns.
I have a video of running to the first boss here. It's around 3 minutes(with around 15 seconds to shave off). I use a few tricks you know but using my own route.

Tutorial if anyone's interested.

(Still plenty of room for improvement/Xbox One will get Twitch Streaming in 2 weeks so I'll be able to record from there)

Thanks so much Rama! that is definitely going to save me a headache.

The most reliable "sweet spot" is easily found if you tap slowly in one direction towards the opposite wall. the moment you cling to the other wall, you should see that you actually moved backwards just a little bit! When you're making that transition to the other wall, that's when you have to turn around. zerothehiden found that you have about 4-5 frames for most of the ceilings to do the trick. However, the positioning of the ceiling at the top of the prison is a little different, making it a 1-frame trick up there! >.<

The "x-factor" jump is really really nice. I will definitely try to get that in my runs. Check out my WR video for how to deal with the 3 enemies near the end, I get them pretty much perfectly.

As for the out of bounds at the end... I don't think that's going to save any time. If you do a slide-in-air of the panther platform and sliding charge attacks to kill the (couplings?), you can kill them without stopping. Going out of your way to get the out-of-bounds is a cool thought, but I think will only lose you time in the end.

Also, sliding is faster than running on flat-surfaces. and you can still kill enemies by spamming slide+attack as you go through them.

Overall though I think you're definitely on the right track! The x-factor management is something that really hasn't been touched at all, and the slide before the first boss is definitely some cool tech. Smiley
I found a HUGE NEW SKIP. On the first visit to the prison, you can get inbounds in a different spot and get the reflect catapult upgrade. This gives you CATAPULT EARLY. You then drop down to the lower save room and go OOB to gauntlet skip. You can then continue to the 3 sisters area, use the catapults to get up even faster, then instead of leaving the area like normal, go down-left then exit the right door (it's covered by a portal). That leads you DIRECTLY TO THE BLACK MARKETER. The rest of the run acts as normal, except you can skip 1 OOB where we originally got the catapult.

Will do a run to show it off later. Most likely will PB/WR again with it. Cheesy
So, I'll have to redo my Hard Mode run again hahaha, thanks sainiku thanks ! xD

Sounds all good to me. Yeah the OoB was just for style points, not for being taken seriously but also to show how the boss cutscene activates. Will incorporate slide into my speedrun now. I haven't practiced past stage one (before the boss) since I want the first part of the speed run refined as possible, which I think is the only time you'll need to use "X-factor" but it's very handy for that one jump in getting both wall sentries.

Definitely watching this thread for any of your speedrun updates.
(I also followed your Twitch).

Edit: Just wondering. What's everyones thoughts on difficulty?
Play on easy, normal or hard?
On Easy, Sainiku is just pathfinding on my face and my time, I let it for him haha !

Seriously, I prefer Hard Mode but I'm still on the maps and path research to sub 1h it
So, just finished a 100% speedrun. Made many mistakes which wasted alot of time, but got it done in 2:01:59 IGT, 2:26:34 IRTA.

Also improved the any% (easy) wr to 47:21 IGT and 57:00 RTA using my new strats.

(videos will be linked soon)
Shabadoo.
Thanks a bunch for the OoB tips Sainiku, looking forward to the 100% run vid! I won't be able to record anything for awhile but glad to have helped. Thanks for the vids as well Bumblebee, gonna use that when I start doing Hard runs more often!
Ok here's the new records you need to beat guys!

Any% (easy) WR. 57:00 RTA (47:21 IGT)

Congrats: Reading Skill Lv Up!
Well I'm going to update a video and then play a different game because I need to start having some fun.

Going to watch through your new WR now. Congratulations on getting it.
Also, thanks to Scyther for your speed calculations. Is extremely helpful.
Going to work on the next section of the game today (North Wind, (I use Sainikus2s split names(put TwitchPlaysPokemon just started and now I'm distracted))).

Edit: Sainiku2, does Any% normal feel drastically different than Any% easy? Is it much harder?
Thanks.
Fun Fact: If you get PC early and go to the Black Marketer backwards, do NOT try to kill Millipede before activating the first cut scene with the Marketer. The game then softlocks as your objective is to beat a boss that you already beat.

Just watched your urn Sainiku. Pretty damn awesome Cheesy
One thing that'll help. (Around 50:00) you're climbing up those infuriating towers. If you switch to Magnet Cypher, you can use the magnet beams to hit the switch meaning that you don't have to climb all the up the top, hang underneath and slash. Instead, the flying Cypher things will hit them for you.

The ONLY difference between the difficulties are in certain key areas where you can end up taking alot of damage (looking at you, Balrog!), and how long it takes to kill some of the bosses.

Because of that, you might have to pick up an extra HP upgrade or two. There are certain upgrades that deviate only slightly from the normal route and are very quick to pick up.

i'll keep that in mind. Smiley

In Normal mode, you won't need another HP, believe me, I did Hard Mode with one (and only) HP, and I did it 1:36 rta (and without these good skips, including a reflect PC, which is really good at dodging some places).

When you know about bosses, the only one who could be a trouble would be Meio, but even him, if you deal with it correctly, won't be a problem, you will only need to be a good killer of Brainwalkers...
Aaaaaaaaaand new sequence break found. They need to stop making this so easy. Tongue

We can now skip straight from 3-sisters fight to Balrog. We do not need kunai or magnetic cypher, because we can grab the magnetic kunai from OOB. This allows us to kill the guys with purple shields in the meio elevator without the magnetic Cypher. And surprisingly, the magnetic kunai are right next to the Balrog area.

To get them, go under the room with them (has purple doors), then get out of bounds in the nearby save area. Backtrack and slide above the purple door, and you should get pushed inbounds just like with catapult doorways. Kill the enemies and grab the kunai, then go straight to the balrog.

Will do a run later. I'll probably have to reroute my 100% run too. (AGAIN) >.<
I swear Sai, I'm trying to learn the route, it doesn't help if you keep finding things that change the whole thing every other day. But seriously, this game is getting more and more the broken the longer we go, good job on finding that.
Damn , I was right to do a break on speedrunning that game!

Very nice Sainiku , new route every days !
So... that new route cuts out about 7 minutes.

New NEW (new) WR run is here:
http://www.twitch.tv/sainiku2/c/3817248

Now... I THINK there can't be much more in terms of huge route changes. The one big one I could think of, I tried and it doesn't work. Unless we can find a way to skip option-A or get to it early, I think this is pretty much it for the route.

Dem Ouroboros and prison
Congrats: Reading Skill Lv Up!
Welp, time for a break.

The bullshit level on base has increased exponentially, and the work hours have somehow increased even though our workload has dropped.  Now it is literally a prison: Noone gets free time anymore.  Managing and collecting the info for Strider was interesting and sometimes even fun when I had time to myself.  Unfortunately, a lot of the testing was just not fun for me, and kinda stressful, and I don't have time for that anymore.

The Knowledge Base is pretty solid right now, but it needs to be updated periodically.  The videos in "Additional Resources" need to get new links as they become obsoleted, mostly by Sainiku obsoleting himself.  I didn't type up or list the various skips because that's stupid when a single link to a competent run will show them all anyway.  The damage calculations (In Game Mechanics and Glitches) that I started are still missing a lot of info, and there's no way to do it reliably without fighting high health enemies on Hard Difficulty or Survival Mode to reduce the margin of error.  I know what I filled in so far is accurate, and it makes a good reference point, but you still need to sit there and watch footage counting hits (not fun.)  I'm not going to be finishing that any time soon so have fun with it.

You guys can edit that page as you uncover this info.  If I really didn't want other people editing my stuff, I would've posted it on GameFAQs instead of on a public wiki.  Just try to keep the formatting nice and neat, since I spent a lot of time making it consistent.  Don't delete everything or I'll cry.
The Top of the Bottom
So the categories for the run will be Glitch and non-Glitch any%, and if any of you have interest in running a 100% run I'll make glitch and non-glitch leaderboards for that category as well. You can all go ahead and start submitting me your times. We use RTA, which begins as soon as you have control of Strider and ends as soon as you beat Meio Prime. Obviously since we aren't using IGT I can't let you just send me a picture of your IGT on the endgame screen, so video proof of the entire run is necessary. Camera quality is of course, always welcome. Just upload it to Youtube or some other video player and send me the link along with what category you are running for and your platform (ie. PS3, Xbox One, PC etc.) and your endgame time.

NOW GET TO WORK!
