I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
*Plays Cash Register sound*

I order you to do a Sub-43 run 8o]

I can't decide which Game I want to play

SA DX, SA2 (Dreamcast) Mega Collection or Gems Collection.  I can't decide [o o]

Congrats for being the "second" Person to send a sonic speedrun.

How come him throwing himself off the cliff in Final Egg doesn't count as death abuse?

Anyway, damn level 1 got owned. There's lots of other places where you just go "I think I shall skip this entire segement ZOOM WOOSH" but level 1 is just shamed. Really, dashing up a vertical wall?

It helps that you can launch yourself off of pretty much EVERYTHING, too.

Tails' run is not as crazy, but it's more solid overall. *coughSkyDeckhackfloatythingieswheeze* The first level is again the craziest... how hard is it to do that totally blind?

Please be more specific, what cliff? There are dozens of things that can be referred to as "cliffs" in Final Egg. @_@!

Oh, I mean the one where you actually die. The part with the spider elevator thing that goes between two parts of the level, and you fall down the middle, go to the next part of the level, and fall down there to your doom so you don't have to wait for the elevator at the top.

Unless it's possible to get back to land after doing that. In which case it's not death abuse.
Nice run, I have few comments though if you dont mind.

In Casinopolis you go down one tunnel and then come back up after you get its rings. Is this really needed? You do finish with 74 rings extra and if you do end a little short there are quicker boxes to get.

An unlucky Chaos4 fight I think.

At Twinkle Park, is there a reason that the roller coaster wasn't skipped?  I know next to nothing about that trick so, im just wondering.  Later when your running up the vertical wall Im sure that you can spin dash up it.

On the last fight where you jump along those green button things to get to the cockpit, you can spindash jump past them. Also when Eggman fires those spinning discs things you can get closer to him speeding the whole thing up.

Anyway again good job and Ill watch Tails later.

For Casinopolis on all my practice segments I usually came close to 410. This one I must've tooken an extra corner or something by mistake. =\

Skipping the entire roller coaster WHOLE is alot easier in the Dreamcast version, yet I see it done at TSC under SA : DX, yet no one bothered to explain to me how to do it, or else I would've.

The verticle wall trick I always sucked at. I've tried spinning right next to it, never worked for me. Going off a ramp does the trick, but again, I sucked at it, feel off, paniced, paused for a second to question if I should just stop recording and redo, attempt recovery and continue. Sloppy indeed. Sad

No one ever told me that for the final boss! Sad
Isn't it cute?
How about mission mode? Try and do all the missions for a particular character. That might be fun.
Well I finally watched your run

I have to say, it was actually better then I thought it'd be. For a first sonic adventure run (and only 4 attempts that's pretty damn good)

Comments:

Nice Emerald Coast and Windy Valley time, though Emerald Coast could be cleaned up a bit. Casinopolis, that very first tunnel you enter in the air room you don't need to enter at all. That wasted like, a minute Sad

Ice Cap: Good run, It would of been cool to see you do the board trick at that ramp, but it is hard, but you could of at least attempted it. Either way, good run.

Twinkle Park: I thought you actually skipped the shortcut for the rollercoaster on purpose because of how risky it was, but apparently you just sort of messed up. Oh well, it happens. A good run through the level though

SpeedHighway: the route you took was fine. Did you find that alternateive route by yourself? Nice work if you did. That shortcut is waaaay too risky for a speedrun, I wouldn't of attempted it myself. You also nailed the waterfall, nice job!

Red Mountain: Made a little slip at the beginning, but again, this game is glitchy as hell. A great run through the level though!

Sky Deck: ok run. You made a few silly mistakes. Nice shortcut at the end though Cheesy

Lost World: Nice run. You were playing it safe in the snake and mirror room (I probably would of also since it's so far into the run)

Final Egg: Another good run...until that part with the fans where you die like...5 times Sad

A slow, but safe, and good Final Egg Viper fight

Overall, a great run!

your tails run, on the other hand... >_>

It's been a while since I've done tails' story, so correct me if I'm wrong. But is the faster flying speed upgrade the one you got later on in the story, or in Station Square? If it's in SS, I think your biggest mistake was not getting the upgrade because your level times were really affected by the lack of speed. The airplane minigame you were good at though, it looked awesome!

I know you kinda rushed the run, but still >_>

I'd like to try and beat your sonic and tails run. I know I can do tails :D, but I'm not sure about sonic, as you managed to do somethings that I could never do faster.

I think a sub 40 speedrun would be a better target time. It'd be hard, but it'd look very cool Cheesy

Anyway, very nice job with this run! Maybe you can do a Sa2b run now? >_>

Also, mission mode runs...why didn't I think of that...

It may be weird...but who knows. Interesting idea though

EDIT: 50 bucks to anyone who makes a Big the Cat Speedrun Cheesy
I'm addicted to games

Hmmm.... $20 to buy the game (it's PC right?)
Play through it again for old times sake ...

1 hour to speed run Big.

$50

Huh?

Profit!!!
welcome to the machine
It wouldn't be worth the boredom.
A Big run wouldn't be too bad. Just go right up next to the lil green bastard, and hook him. The fishing could be really quick with some practice. Though I wonder why the makers insisted on putting a fishing sim in a speed game.
That's true. For some reason, I thought of speedrunning Big as including the really hard emblems, the ones where you need to catch the 2000G fish and it takes 5 hours of your day

After realizing this, I withdraw my previous offer (sorry Radix Sad )

So ya, maybe a Big run could be worked out. And I'm guessing for Gamma, we'd just still run through the level as fast as possible? Though it'd be a pain in the ass to time, with the timer going up a few seconds every time you shoot down an enemy...
Edit history:
soteos: 2005-09-13 04:00:22 am
Yeah, there's no way you can use gamma's timer for timing. It would be very hard to tell how much time elapses by factoring out enemies killed. May have to time him manually. Or maybe include enemies killed as time bonuses? I don't know, his levels are weird.

Yuji Naka commented in some magazine claiming it exists for balance among gameplay. Whihc is really crap because I didn't buy Sonic Adventure for a crappier "Sega Base Fishing" engine tacked on in the middle!

OMG, I can't believe I forgot about the first upgrade! >_>; D'oh! x 300.

For Ice Cap, I don't know what ramp trick you're talking about. If it's that trick where you go off the ramp and stay doing tricks way longer than you should be skipping 5 seconds of skiing, I don't know how to. =\

Also, I don't know how to skip the whole train thing on Twinkle Park, could you tell me?

For Lost World, I "play it safe" because I knew no other method. Now I know simply having free camera on automatically lights the entire room so I can just zoom through everything.

Now I definately see an improved Sonic SS in the future, since once it''s uploaded everyone decides to reveal shortcuts ... >_>:

- Be more catious about tunnel choosing in Casinopolis (-1 minute)
- Possibly skip Train entirely in Twinkle Park (-25 seconds)
- Skip all mirrors in Lost World (-5 seconds)
- DON'T die on the fans 300 times (-35 seconds)
- Spindash to eggman rather than hit him (I didn't do it because I didn't know).

As towards me doing SA2B, I absolutely SUCK at the Knuckles/Rouge stages. I also lack the game as I traded it in sometime in 2004 (before joining SDA of course), and don't feel like shelling out another $20 to get another Sonic game to speedrun! Doing this SA : DX run costed me about 24$ to buy and mail!

And finally, Radix, if doing a Big speedrun will only cost NintenDan $50, what if I throw out $150 for "all Chao emblems" run done with a newborn Chao on Sonic Adventure 2 done by the great Pflug? Smiley
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Can't beat a girl in SA2B?  That's not right.

Now that you know the new shortcuts/improvements, you're now ready for an improve speedrun.  After that, we'll point out more shortcuts/improvements/omissions and I may actually speedrun this.    Although the new season is on, I start classes in 10 days and I still haven't finished SAdv2 so It may be a while. *grabs a snickers*
Isn't it cute?
I think I'll have to start practicing my E-101 Gamma game. He's the one I'm best at,
Congrats on your run Tri Hex. Your run showed many tricks i didn't know of, so it was very impressed at that. Even though it had some big mistakes, it's not so bad considering how gitchy this game is and how hard the tricks are. So, again, congrats. Your run was really good Wink As for tails...well....let's say i'll try improve it  Grin

BTW, i'm still up for that sonic segmented run i said i'd do some months ago. Is there anyone who'd be still interested in seeing it?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I think it qualifies more as "individual segment runs" rather than going segmented.

Mad_Andy: 2005-09-13 04:24:37 pm
I'm not doing individual level runs. It's gonna be in 11 segments. The segments Include levels, bosses, mini-games and adventure fields.  How can you call that individual level runs?
Angered Me, You have!

I would love to see it Mad_Andy! Any sonic games for that matter. Tri-hex, one word describes your run: Fantastic!

Wherever you include the sky chase acts with levels, they might as well be individual levels because it's a set time period. Everything but the levels seem trivial in this game, and it just seems so pointless, to me at least. But hey, maybe we could do with some actual individual level runs.
Nice Super Sonic run btw.

I'm not good enough for individual level runs, i can't get lower than 1:17 on emerald coast in a single segment. I'm sure nintendan and others could do individual runs, i'll just stick with a segmented run for sonic Wink

Individual Level runs = Speedrunning one stage to set a personal or world record.

What about mission mode?  How long does that take?  What about the old gamegear games?
ya if you want individual level runs, TSC does just that.

A multisegment run of sonic adventure would be nice, as you'd be able to nail more of the tricks. This is good actually, I thought you were doing a single segment run so I thought I'd have some competition.

Also, I have yet to watch your supersonic run, but I'll try and watch it later tonight. Looks good from the time you posted.
