Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Quote:

If at any time you at at a position that you could not otherwise be at except by going through a wall, then no. In other words, going through the walls in mario 64 is OK because that's just some doors you're pushing through early. Going through a big chunck of wall and ending up inside the wall and coming out the other side is not.

I haven't played this game in over 5 years ... remind me what restart does?

Yes normally a sonic would just be a sum of all levels' times, but since this has stuff to do between levels, it has to be real time. Individual levels could still use the game timer though.

BTW, "reasons" don't have gender. Therefore they don't have sex. Therefore they can't be homosexual. Therefore they can't be gay.

It was obviously ment to be taken as sarcasm. And that doesn't do much, just ruins the 2 minute ultra-glitch shortcuts in Final Egg. If what Radix said is correct then going through the wall into the circle thingy with the stone snake is still legal since I'm glitching into proper-intended areas.
Mhm, i guess this means that i won't need to do sonic since that your doing it already segmented. Ho well, i'll do only tails SS then. Good luck with the run Wink

It's basically a suicide button, like Up + A in the early Zeldas. IIRC you even lose a life when you use it.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I seriously doubt I will be speedrunning anytime soon.  I lack any experience besides setting some marks on SSBM Event 51.  Perhaps a segmented Sonic Heroes run is a good choice

I'd rather do commetns on a game here and there, but I haven't yet seen the videos.

Will there be a 3D blast or a Gems Collection game speedrun soon?

What I also want to do is crown the new "King of Sonic Games" 8o]

Oh yea.  Any new ideas?
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Alright, recording of Sonic goes down tonight, if anyone has any advice as towards getting Egg Viper Boss done faster, please tell. Because I'm clocking at 2:5X:XX otherwise. =\

> Skip 2 cutscenes, go towards mid-ship, skip another cutscnee.
> Sky Deck
> Skip cutscene
> Switch Egg Carrier form
> Skip cutscene
> Chaos 6
> Skip cutscene
> Lost World
> Skip cutscene
> Egg carrier in jungle
> Pain in the ass puzzle
> Final Egg
> Skip ctuscene
> Egg Viper
*end*

For enjoyment, I let the final scene show. Wink So any last word advice on how to crack the puzzle for the entrance to Final Egg, and beating Egg Viper faster, let me know!
just to make sure you no, when you hit the switch under the chair, you just have to charge up the spin move and it'll hit it.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Thanks, and I timed my final Sonic recording, I got sub-hour! 0:59:40. Is this considered "good?" I made maybe 3 minutes of mistakes, if that, probably 2. Recording is going to happen in another hour, once my hands stop cramping and hurting. >_>; (Playing this game efficiently kills my palms)
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Good Good.

Now run it again and make sure you don't make those 3-minutes of mistakes  Smiley
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Here's the comments I got so far, in a hurry, more to come:

Estimated time: 0:59:XX
Runner: Mychal “Trihex” Jefferson
Date of Completion: 08/18/05

Let me hand out the thanks:
-      Radix, for doing his usual.
-      Nate, for converting from the primitive VHS to digital formatting.
-      NintenDan, for being very supportive, providing several exclusive videos, and anything else I forgot.
-      Paused, for supplying that useful TXT guide, it really did make this run a lot faster than just the shortcuts I knew of!
-      The creator of the TXT guide Paused provided, I’ll call him “BillyBobJoe3745” since that’s his geocities account name. Credit to creator of http://www.geocities.com/billybobjoe3745/sadxstrats.html thanks!
-      Everyone else who spammed in the forums. Wink

I feel this was my most supported speed-run to date, the topic reached 3 pages in less than 4 days. While Yoshi’s Island has taken weeks to get that many posts that fast. The idea of doing this run simply came to me because I wanted to snatch the title for “first Sonic speed-run submitted at SDA,” that quickly escaladed into a more serious speed-run which is what you’re downloading/viewing.

Well, there’s the back story onto world-famous “trihex, STFU already” commentary.

-      You’ll notice that I skip cut scenes that really weren’t necessary to skip, too bad. I had to redo this speed-run like 700 million times! (Okay, only 4 but I always messed up 45 minutes or later into each of them) So I was getting impatient.
-      I first screwed up at Emerald Coast; I get caught on the damn loop when I was supposed to skip it entirely.
-      I probably didn’t need that extra life I got in Emerald Coast, but I would go through lives like underwear once I reach Red Mountain, surprisingly I didn’t need so many this time.
-      I messed up during the Egg Hornet boss, when he first comes down, I didn’t sneak in a 3rd hit, so I have to wait another 10-15 seconds for him to die.
-      I usually mess up at part 1 of Windy Valley, surprisingly; it went well this time.
-      Notice that I reveal how many shortcuts Sonic Team takes in developing this game. As I go towards the Swear for the shoe upgrades, I reveal what the camera hides as I go to the other side of Station Square, glitchland!
-      At the beginning of Casinopolis, I almost got out of the triple bounce early, but oh well…
-      I wish I could’ve found a smoother way to navigate the narrow tunnels in the sewer, while at Casinopolis. =\
-      Damnit, I hit the ground at the end of the sewer, it’s like an unwritten law to NOT do that!
Well I am back

and I see that you already finished the run (I think)

Can't wait to see it.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Yeah, I officially sent off 3 tapes. Crash 2, Crash 3, and Sonic Adventure DX.

For DX I did 3 single segment runs.

Adventure Mode as Sonic: ~59:XX (it's definately sub-hour)
Adventure Mode as Tails: I didn't get time before I sent off.
Adventure Mode as Super Sonic: It went pretty crappy, I missed Perfect Chaos once, so this can easily get beaten. =\

Just a matter of the good ol' SDA process to progress. Wink
Nice

the sending of your speedrun has more or less convinced me to send mine, so I might just do that. We could have 2 sonic games in 1 site update! That'd be kick ass Cheesy

Are you good with codecs and stuff like that by any chance?

also, another random question, and I may of missed this, but I thought you were only doing a single segment sonic run. I didn't know you were doing a Tails one! I could of helped you out with strats Sad

the way you set up this run seems good. single segment for each character. Are you planning on doing knuckles and Amy anytime soon? Like, if I wanted to, could I submit a single segment run of Amy and knuckles even though you're sonic and tails would be up, or would that not be allowed? I know I can definetly get a good Amy run!

Seeing your previous short videos was highly astonishing, so I really do not know why you are not doing this run!? I linked further your videos to some friends and they were all amazed, so I sincerely hope you will give it a go. Perhaps a multisegment run so you can redo any part you feel unhappy with to get the best and fastest time. Go Dan!
Grats on finishing Tri hex.  Welcome back NintenDan, and Im sure youll be unsurprised to hear Im glad you are sending your run off to.

Doing a video for Knux though, isnt it going to be basically be a pure luck based run?  That being said Im sure from what i hear, SadisticMystic could probably finish Knux off in 5 minutes.

Amy and Gamma would be good though.  However if anyone even considers doing a Big the Cat run....
I have always wanted to speedrun sonic adventure dx, but seeing as how there were several people attempting it, I decided to just let it go for the moment, focus on advance.

If there's one thing I hate, it's dying. Obviously, dying in a speedrun isn't very impressive, but in the sonic games, it's a different story. Many of the bigger shortcuts are extremly difficult to pull off in one run without dying, and since I'm a perfectionist, well...I go crazy if I die! If I did a sonic adventure run, I'd have to work my ass off to avoid dying and I just don't have that time right now (Nor will I have the equipment since my cube is being taken away for the time being)

Ok, now for other comments

Knuckles - SadisticMystic does know his stuff when it comes to treasure hunting. He's memorized practically every layout of every shard, and has developed advanced techniques to get to them as fast as possible. Unfortunately, this is for SA2B, not for SADX. The hunting system in SADX is a bit cheaper, so he doesn't take it as seriously as he does for SA2B. As long as you have a general idea of where the shards are, you should be able to get them all at least under their recommended target time (Mission A)

Amy - I think I'll do a run of this definetly (Maybe even today before the cube's put away). I can get through all 3 levels fast, and it's not as challenging as sonic's levels or shortcuts.

Gamma - Remember that first of all, the higher your time, the better it is. Second of all, there's a trick that allows players in the Hot Shelter level to rack up as much time as they want. Players have times up to 99 minutes because of this trick. I'm guessing it'd be banned from the run anyway (I don't think anyone wants to see someone constantly hitting a glitched target for 2 hours). This could be an interesting run. My gamma times suck ass though, so someone else should do this

Big - No

Anyways, congrats again trihex on actually finishing the run! Any idea how long it'll take for it to be up on the site?

Also, on a side note, I really need somebody to help me out with codecs and converting my run to Divx or whatever it is. If you could help, it'd be greatly appreciated. AIM = GCNDAN20735
Big's part is mostly luck.

Hence the keyword: multi segments Angry you have infinite time to redo certain parts without dying!

I was actually thinking about how Gamma would be played here.  I know that both in game and at Sonic Center higher times, on the in game clock anyway, are what you are supposed to aim for. Im guessing though that this wont be the aim here,  It will be simply to finish the game as fast as possible.

This will mean that the stratagies used at sonic center will not be the most effective one. The differences I pressume will only be slight, as it does not take long for Gamma to shoot.

NintenDan it be great if you did an amy run today, I wish I could just decide to do a run on the spur of the moment that most people wont have a chance of beating.

Also problem with multi segments Angerfist is that some people feel that its basically the same as the Sonic Center, just with the adventure fields thrown in with a few minigames.
Hurrah for Trihex, for now, we will no longer have "You guys should do Sonic, it's all about speed!" threads!

.... Who the hell am I kidding.....

Either which way, congratulations!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Is the 59:xx video available for download?
He just sent the tape to Nate, so once Nate uploads it (which I'm guessing will be a few days) and someone takes the time to verify it you'll be able to download it Shocked

Speaking of verifying, I'm wondering if I could verify this run, as I know a good amount about this game, and I'm a trusted member when it comes to time attacking in the sonic community.
Angered Me, You have!
Darn it seems that I saw your private tell a bit too late Smiley Great job though on your run as Im quite sure it was very good, now I hope in the future you will consider a bigger Sonic run....

What do you mean "bigger?"

Also, NintenDan, I had considered E-102 and Amy but I simply didn't have time for them. I barely had time for redos on Sonic SS. Or else I would've probably done another one where I don't forget where to go and resort to asking Tikal for a second. >_>; I only lost 10-15 seconds..

Y'all'll see eventually. Smiley
ya that's fine, I just want to see this run Cheesy

Also, for Amy, I might just try and redo all my times, but make it multi-segment, because I own 2/3 records at TSC and I'm pretty sure I can beat the last one with some practice

or maybe I should just do single segment. Either way it wont be for a while (cube taken away)
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
I got to watch my run. And though I should've waited another week to reattempt. I'm satisfyed with my 46:11. Wink I counted my mistakes:

03s - Hitting the loop in Emerald Coast.
02s - Not making it into the hole in EC part 2.
12s - Paniced and reseted when turning around and hitting the spring would've been faster in Red Mountain.
18s - Mess up doing the Twinkle Park shortcut
1 m - Horrible crap out towards the end of Sky Deck part 1
35 s - Kept dying during the hover thingies in Final Egg

2:10 of mistakes.

When you add in the "safer" shortcuts I took, since there were more I knew of but were too risky or non-SDA-legal, a dream time would be around:

sub 0:42. Enjoy the run everyone. Wink
