Blargh. What a shitty try. Was one spring away from a smartbomb, but it was buried behind blue and green... I owned blue, found another blue, but before I could get back to the spring a column advanced twice in a row and I died :(.
So, after watching Normand's replay I thought to myself, "this looks like something I could do." I decided to fire it up this morning and got this score my first attempt at a new strategy:
Getting tired of doing the slow beginning all over again which motivates me to exactly one attempt at a time. Always seem to fail around the same parts.

nomltest syndrome
Good game, but my reaction was the same to both, which was to quit playing somewhat early IIRC. Nice scores and I'm about to watch at least part 4 of that replay.
HELL YEAH TWINKLE TALE
Yeah, it plays a lot like Pocky and Rocky because it's in the same genre. This is what I said in the first speedrunning tourney: "I was going to include Twinkle Tale but axed it at the last moment to spare it the ignomony of losing this week." I love both games but anyway you guys just wish you were manly enough to handle Granada.
Might as well put this up for now, only had a few goes and I'll obviously edit with improvements. Can expect to at least cut this time down by half no problem, stage 2 alone took almost 7 minutes due to deaths
Seems a fun game though, another good choice. Anybody know how many stages there are?
I wouldn't mind having a shot at this game if only I was allowed to use a turbo controller, as it would help greatly for the bosses.
You can just hold down the shoot button and it's a continuous fire rate. Button mashing isn't that much better since there's a limit on the number of bullets on the screen.

Holding down the shoot button gives a continous fire rate but it's nowhere near as fast as button mashing. If you stand close to a boss you can do Mega Man style turbo fire and take them out very quickly.
Quite a few deaths, especialy in the autoscrolling level and the one before it. The last level actually seemed a little easier than the rest of the game, and the end boss's pattern is one of the easiest to follow. This is the first time I've actually beaten the game, so hopefully I can manage a better time if I can find the time to get through it again... I kind of have to start looking for a job more seriously than I have been.

I really like this game, except for the auto-scrolling level.
Yea, that autoscrolling level is the only thing keeping me down right now... Also, what caught me by surprise was the two forms of that boss.
Yes, that was surprising. The first form is actually pretty easy, although a little time consuming, if you figure out how to avoid the lance attack. For the dragon alone I use bombs when it uses its breath attack and fly behind it when it claws. You should be able to get away with no, or little, damage. I needed two bombs for clear two breath attacks before it went down, although after dying quite a bit on that level I think I had saved up 3.
Going back to breakdowns post on the first page, Saria is a magician not a witch.
You say plantain, I say little banana.

No turbo controllers this week as they do really break the game in certain parts. Of course if you can mash faster than the regular autofire that's perfectly fine.
