When you deny the treasure at the end of The Cave of Bad Dreams hold jump, shoot and hold down during the cutscene. I don't know, if works on N64.
Daily Speedrun Streamer
Yup this is also possible on n64 and is pretty well documented, it is possible to not receive the elixer, and soft lock the game,
while attempting this, so i tend to stray away from this strat XD, also in other news I got a new n64 Rayman 2 any% PB of 2:24:08.9
Daily Speedrun Streamer
Thanks to lukester100, its now known that on both PC and N64 holding up during this elixer cutscene causes you to instantly clip through the floor, this save a little time,
if you hold down it causes you to get stuck in the floor for a bit of time.
also,
I got another PB last night, 2:23:44.8  this time is including the opening cut scene, which adds 3:11

Cool. I tried that a few times and it seems consistent. I made a video of it and a few other tricks:

I found a few new time saves in the echoing caves i will post soon

edit: Heres the video

Also on a different not, I got a new PB 2:20:51, the WR is 2:20:38 RTA from new game (SDA timing + 3:13 for first cutscene)
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I was curious about how much time is saved by low resolution and some of the new tricks, so I did an impromptu any% run today and got a time of 2:14:22 (just over three minutes faster than my old run). There were three or four deaths, totalling a few minutes, and some other mistakes that probably cost a couple minutes. I also kind of made up the lum route as I went, so I might have made some slow decisions there. Because of all these mistakes, it's hard to get a good estimate of how much time the new techniques save, but I'd say it's at least six or seven minutes. I can post a video of the run if anyone's interested.

Nice finds. For the second one, it might be better to just stay in high resolution after doing the door skip.

Yeah its hard to know exactly how much time can be saved but my best segmented splits atm is a 2:12:50 (sda timing)

And yes I would like to see the run! Smiley

Okay, I'll encode it and post it tomorrow.

Hey, Cloakedyoshi mentioned me earlier in the thread and I thought I should say hello to everyone. I'm always late at parties.
Anyway, I was trying to figure out the glitch after the Cave of Bad Dreams and how to make it more consistent. I also run the game on PC, though right now I don't know how comparable PC and N64 are, due to some glitches (better on N64), framerates (depends) and loading times (better on PC). This way or another, to anyone who cares enough, here's my PC PB of 2:14:34

Also, Mano, I can't wait 'till you upload this run, it's gonna be amazing to watch.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I was looking at my 2:14:22 run and some parts were pretty bad, so I gave it another go and got 2:11:34. I'll get it posted tomorrow. I don't really want to spend much time doing any% again, so I doubt I'll improve this.

Hi. Good to see that someone's working on the PC version. I haven't played it to be sure, but from what I've seen, it seems that there are quite a few differences between it and the N64 version. I'll list the ones you mentioned and some others:
  • Some tricks are easier on N64.
  • Some tricks may be easier on PC (Tomb of the Ancients switch skip?).
  • Some cutscenes are shorter on PC. You can move during some cutscenes on PC.
  • Loading times are shorter on PC.
  • The overall lagginess might be less on PC (similar to how low resolution mode on N64 lags less than high resolution mode).
With all these differences, a straight conversion is impossible, so SDA would probably track the two versions separately.

  • Some tricks are only possible on N64 due to overall lagginess being lower on PC. I also think that the Tomb of the Ancients skip is easier in lower FPS, as I tested i in both 30 and 60 FPS and timing feels different, though maybe that's just me.
I don't really think any cutscene is shorter on PC, though movement during some of them is a fact. Same as loading times.
Definitely waiting for your upload now. 2:11:34, oh my god.

The only one I know for sure is shorter is the intro, which isn't counted by SDA. I figured there might be others, but it's possible that the intro is the only one.

The intro and the first pirate ship cutscene can be skipped.

Yeah, I didn't mention the intro since it doesn't matter anyways.
Wait, the first pirate ship? You mean, the one in the Bayou? Really? Huh.

Yeah, just press Enter. Works on both CD and GoG for me.

    EDIT: A few timesavers:

I've gotten to that Cave of Bad Dreams platform before, but I figured I'd make a video of it.
Hey guys. I guess there's someone showing up even later than luke :P. Like most posters in this thread, I'm also interested in speedrunning Rayman 2. However at this moment in time I'm just interested in running the Speed Runs Live rule-set of accepting the treasure in the cave of bad dreams (with 200 or more lums). Here's a link in case you need it - http://speedrunslive.com/races/game/#!/rayman2/1

If I can keep my focus on that, then I'd definatley consider running any% on the whole game. The reason why I'm starting like this is because it's short and sweet, letting me run other games while still being able to do well on this one (if my way of saying that sentence made any sense...).

So this post is just to get my foot in the door. I'll try my best to keep active here and provide some useful info, but forums are hard for me to focus on. I'd also like to thank everyone in this thread that is still keeping an eye on it and posting content. This is my favorite platformer and i'm super happy there's enough people showing an interest in running this game.

Lastly, if there's anyone interested in racing this game with me, please message me here, twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/isquaky), or add my skype (bob..pop, just say you're from here in the greeting or i might think its spam). I play on PC btw.

I hope you all have a nice day

Hey welcome! Yeah I came up with that SRL race category Smiley the category was made for n64 If you find someone to race on PC then make sure to label it "Take the treasure with 200+ lums (PC)" also if your following the lum route for any% its about 225 lums at that point just something to keep in mind.

So Ive been able to practice levels more effectively with a new tool I found out about thanks to cfox, It basicly is like savestates, for console (this tool is for N64). All you need is a controller pack (if you dont have one you can get one for 5 bucks online) and a Dex Drive (13 dollars on amazon) and If dont have a serial port then a serial to usb adaptor (10-15 on amazon) OK how does it work? You save your game onto the controller pack, then plug your controller pack into the dexdrive, which is hooked up to the computer. Then you can save your files, I made a save for every level in rayman so if anyone is interested in using this tool, I can give you the saves. An example of how this helps me is, say I want to practice my Sanctuary of Stone and Fire level, I copy the save over from my computer, and Im good to go. If anyone wants more clarification let me know ^^

My post isn't realted, but I don't want to bury this because it seems pretty useful.

So I got a pretty nice time on the SRL ruleset. So if you hve the time, give it a watch and ask some questions if you have them. Definitely improvable, but the sections I mess up on are pretty obvious.

The embedding link that twitch gives you doesn't seem to work here... so the link will have to do.

Welcome. Good luck with your run.
    Daily Speedrun Streamer
Nice ones, hows your 100% run comming along?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I've decided on my strategies for pretty much every part of the game now. Hopefully I'll be able to do some run attempts soon.
This is regarding the PC version.

So I was fiddling with Dxtory to find some nice settings and whatnot and I came across something that might violate certain SDA rules for submitting runs. When I would record in 30 fps instead of 60, I would find that certain tricks (like grabbing on to the corner of the ledge in the woods of light, right before the baby Globox cut-scene. As well as the murphy text skip before the very first pirate) would be a lot easier to do. I suppose this is running of the same premise as this post was:

    Quote from Blubbler:
Too much lag is bad, mkay?

    (all PC)

My concern is that since there's an external program affecting the game in an advantageous way, would it fall into the same category as (for example) the cartridge trick for Ocarina of Time? I suppose we could set a rule for this game in the PC category that you must have a minimum of XX number of FPS at all times. But if it has to be a constant 60 frames and if someone wants to submit their run, their computer might not have any way of recording while keeping that standard.

Also, luke was telling me that he uses a program called DxWnd to help him stream (it's a program that forces Programs using DirectX into a window). The drawback to this program being that it would limit him to 30fps. So this might be a technicality preventing someone from submitting a run.
