Holy crap that's awesome. Unfortunately we won't have Mega Man X2, which is the game with a butterfly boss. I assume you can do this with lots of origami though.

Yup. If anyone has suggestions, I'm up for it. My only stipulation for the time being is that it's actual origami, like you make with a single piece of paper, and not some papercraft thing that's made of lots of pieces. I don't have any problem with that stuff, it's just not something that I'm interested in doing.

For what it's worth, one of Robotrek's bosses is a butterfly. ;P
Damn! I'm embarrassed for not realizing that. It was the boss in the tower at the Count's mansion, right? I'll turn in my Robotrek fan club badge now. Where's that speedrun of yours anyway? I'm still waiting.

That's right! As for my speed run....it's....errrmm....over there. >_>
Good point, Lee. LttP is on the list. And so is Super Metroid. Kraid from SM is basically just a big grub and grubs are kind of like caterpillars and those metamorphose into moths. DKC is on the list and there's a butterfly hangin out on a tree in the beginning of the first level. The possibilities are endless. I'm going to link to this in the prizes thread and if somebody wants it then Mercury can add it to the list.
Awwww my god, it's cute *________* How stable are these metal origamis? At first sight they look pretty thin and fragile, and you mentioned that it's similar to the paper folding … Is it easy to mistakedly bend and break them?
Also when I'm back home I could scan my origami book looking for easy-to-fold other designs which might fit other games. The swan immediately jumps to mind, also I wouldn't know where to place it.
And to get off-topic: I would imagine that flowers of that kind would be beautiful *___*
Batman and Batman: Arkham City are on the list as well - how good would you be at making batarangs? We can pretend they aren't awesome weapons for the benefit of the customs officials
Alko: As mentioned above, this is stainless steel, so it has fairly high strength and elasticity. This means that it doesn't tear or break very easily, and unless you crease it or crumple it hard, it can bounce back. You can see a seam on the right wing where I accidentally folded it in the wrong place and then flattened it back out. The metal folded right back without harm. If I had tried harder, I probably could have rolled it so flat that even that seam was gone.
Any suggestions I get will be appreciated. I only have two more pieces of SS right now before I have to order more, which I may not do for some time, so if I can get two solid video game related items, that'll be great.
Yes, I agree that flowers would be beautiful. That may require some refinement of the coloring technique unless you like your flowers to be just a chaos of rainbow colors. This thin stuff makes it very difficult to control the color.
The metal is quite thin at about .0025", compared to .0040" for a sheet of paper. I forgot to put a tape down when I took those pics, but it's about 10" (25cm) across the wings and it weighs about 3.5oz (~100g).
RoboSparkle: The batarang was discussed briefly on page 6 of this thread. I think the conclusion was that I could make them, but that there's no point since you can buy them on Ebay.
Hey Tom, I know you didn't want to offer that Zelda shield as a prize for AGDQ 2013, but I think it would be a very popular prize. Would you reconsider and offer it as a prize? I think a LOT of people would love having a shield, and it really does look great.
I'm very reluctant to give it as a prize because I'm not happy with the quality. Just imagine if you did a Contra 3 run during AGDQ and you had like 20 deaths. You wouldn't be happy with that.
That said, I was planning on bringing it to AGDQ just to get some criticism, and the whole purpose of this is to raise enough money to slay cancer, so I guess I can give it away if people actually want it. Maybe you can show it off early and ask people in the chat if they want it and do whatever based on the response.
Augora, keep in mind that if this becomes a prize, you will probably have three Zelda prizes to win this time around.
