Thanks Soviet Warlord! Smiley It means a lot and it was the same for me really. So I'm happy we were able to do it!
Meet Stakhanov!
Out of interest, I dont know if you covered this at an earlier point, but does this out of bounds work on an earlier point for the torture room? Like doing it the first time you come down to B1 of the tank hanger? glitching into the torture room with no card whatsoever and somehow getting Level 6 right off the bat, or maybe coming in with a level 1 and trumping it for a 6? I could imagine that'd probably crash the game though, such a huge jump? It seems as though the radar loads only when you have a level 5 card from my experience, so the area technically isn't in play...

That's exactly what we do Soviet Warlord Smiley As soon as we get to tank hangar in the run now, we just go right to B1 and glitch to the torture room and save over 25 minutes of gameplay. Smiley
I pretty much stumbled my way through a run just now, and managed to get to the Rex fight. I just forgot to pick up the Stinger again. The problem I have is that after the Wolf fight, when I go back to the elevator, the door is closed. The button is blue, but when I push it, it just flashes and nothing else happens. I am playing on the PC version, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but everything else has been the same so far so I can't imagine why that alone would change.

After the wolf fight the elevator doors should be open and you can just get inside and go back up to floor 9. If not then did you skip wolf fight properly or actually fight her? Maybe that has an effect. If you skipped her too and still can't use elevator after what I said, it must be the PC version yeah, weird.

Edit: Also you say the button is blue? It's never been blue for me. When did you go back to the elevator? If it was after disc 2 or something maybe that messes up elevator. You have to go back right after Wolf 2 skip.
Yeah, I go straight to the elevator after skipping the Wolf fight. I also tried going into Disc 2 and coming back, but the door is still closed.

Are you skipping the codecs being on PC version? That might be what's doing it. Because I think the game uses Otacon finally calling us on the codec when Wolf 2 fights starts as progression and opens the elevator doors. So if you skipped that codec, that might be why. If not then it must be PC version issue.
Thaaaat is a very good point. I'll play through the cutscenes and see if that makes a difference.

This might be a related issue to that bug with PC version where the gas room door after putting in last key never opens. Are you running Windows 7? I'd like to know how you got it not to crash!
I don't really know! Other than downloading a patch to make it actually work on Windows 7, I haven't done anything. I managed to get through the gas room at the end fine - I called Otacon, and a little while later he called back and the door opened. The only time it's crashed is when I was doing a ton of saves and loads really quickly.

Sticking through the cutscenes doesn't seem to affect the elevator door. Also, I checked to see what Otacon had to say, and before the fight, he's all "Hey, get the Stinger", and after, "Go to the Fuuuuurnace!" It's weird. I have no idea where the trigger actually is for this elevator.
Magical. Flying. Bathtub
Wow I haven't played this in years, not since I got top rank on hardest difficulty I just packed it in, as the mashing to skip codecs always annoyed me, I'll have to get my old copy again!
I did a 1:10:57 Big Boss run, single segment: http://twitch.tv/mgslade/b/358634897
The goal is now 1:09.

New record myself of 1:08:40: http://i49.tinypic.com/f4o2z7.png

Got some bad luck with blast furnace. I could probably do 1:08:30 without much difficulty.

New time. I could take maybe 10-20 seconds off this but getting maxed out now.

Awesome!

New question: what is the best time achievable with no items?

Runs with items acquired previously are sometimes frowned upon, a default run could also be interesting!

The Englishman is redoing his TAS so he will be able to know soon. I expect he will get about the same time as I did.

Looked about on Twitch and saw about 3 or 4 people learning the new route already. Good to know our 6 months of work was worthwhile!

Me and Magnum66 are actually going to make a documentary over the discoveries we made to break the game so if you think you can help get in contact. Helping would be like looking over the script, if you have editing experience in programs such as Sony Vegas etc.

AdHoc a new game run with no special items used and non TAS, I imagine something like... 1:08 would be possible IMO. If you're talking about a Big Boss run though then probably a low 1:09, which Slade is actually close to at the moment. Smiley
Ok thanks. I'm looking forward to that itemless run Smiley
So I just ran through a normal game on the PC version, and it turns out that once you get out of the elevator, it locks completely. This includes if, once defeating the four stealth guards, you go back up to the 9th floor, go to where the Stinger is, and then return, the elevator is locked. You cannot descend, and are prevented from progressing.

I DO have a potential workaround that I need to test, but it'll take longer than it does on PS1. I guess it'll even out the codec skips though... well, maybe not quite.

Uploaded a video of how the torture OoB skip should be done, maybe even for the TAS. It's faster than normally crawling backwards into the vent and glitching. Instead we just fall down and spin our legs under.
Meet Stakhanov!
I am so looking forward to seeing the entire finished recorded run when you've brushed up all the tricks you've found, it's gonna be absolutely awesome Cheesy

Decided to do another run recently. Got this with a few mistakes:

So that's a normal run, without any item, right? The "STEALTH" mention only means you unlocked stealth, or am I wrong? I can't remember.

Nice time anyway, keep it coming.

I only do new game, no special items used. That's just unlocked. I also play Extreme, I just practiced normal mode to make it easier to find the glitches when I did them and didn't fully switch over yet. So yes Slade still has WR on Extreme and that's just the new game normal mode WR.

Found another new OoB glitch on Metal Gear Solid 1! Smiley In the Raven warehouse, enjoy!
