Basically I got out of bounds in the cave using a glitch Greg found earlier today, except he was stuck in and couldn't get out. So huge credit goes to him or it probably would have taken a lot longer to find that. I found out you could get on top of the rock and then go through the wall using a box. At the moment I don't think you NEED the box, that's just how I first got it to work. Enjoy!
What about the air vent on the floor near the ladder in the holding cell area?
Derrick tried there for awhile. I think the only reason it works at the desk and wolf area is because you actually have something to pop up onto. The air vent is a solid wall once you get up so you would be rejected. So far the only exploration done has been up to wolf cavern. Way more to test today. Ideally the bed in cell area would be oob worthy and that would save a good minute for a speedrun.
Here is the revised Wolf cavern glitch. No cardboard box needed to get up now.
It's hard to explain how this works. Best case, it's something you can use to OoB at anywhere in which there is an object above you and you get forced against a wall when you crawl in too much. During the standing up animation you must press X to get up which propels you up further if the distance is right.
You never needed the cardboard box yeah, just the attempt I got I happened to be stuck inside but if you do it right you can end up on top, mentioned it in my last post. You still need box though to get into wall oob. Unless we can hopefully just crawl into wall.
Oh hey guys, I just stopped by to let you know that I finally got OOB into the torture room in MGS1 and now can save a potential 25 minutes or so on a speedrun, no biggie.
Thanks guys! This glitch can be done with almost any area in the game you can crawl under something and something is over you stopping you from standing up. You align yourself with the wall or object, look up in first person view and as SOON as you let go of triangle+up press X and you'll stand up in the object/wall. So far I've gotten out of bounds in the heliport, tank hangar, dock, and cell area into torture room.
As I said previously, we are not home free yet. We still need a plan to get the stinger.
Current plan.
1. OoB into torture room. 2. Run normally to comms tower. 3. Glitch past Hind area (eg activate guard fight scene). 4. Fight Wolf 2, get life trigger from Wolf 2. This is untested as of yet but if we get this, to the game we should already have the stinger by this point so would let us pick it up. This concept works for the PSG-1. 5. Go back and get Stinger. Continue as normal.
Small update, this glitch is INCREDIBLY easy now and can be used nearly EVERYWHERE there is an area you can get snakes body under or most of his legs. You don't even need to align yourself now. Just get on ground, crawl backwards into area and get most of snakes legs under so he can't stand up when normally pressing X. Then look up in first person view and then let go of triangle and up and the SECOND you do, press X.
So far I've glitched:
Dock, heliport, tank hangar, torture room oob, got on cell room bed, got on desks in cell area, got on cell beds, canyon oob, got on the desks in the nuke building, and glitched through the walls in the wolf cave.
Breaking the game like crazy now.
Edit: You can also glitch inside trucks from the front. Just glitched inside the truck in the Wolf 2 snowfield. XD
Edit2: You can also glitch inside tanks, just did it in tank hangar no problem.
Some more good news I discovered. If worse comes to worst and this glitch won't work fully because we can't stinger, I found a timesaver with this new oob glitch that WILL save at least 1 minute or so in a run. If you oob in tank hangar and try to go past sensors to tank, it won't work because the room isn't loaded yet. So I went to test what causes it to load. Meryl guard fight didn't trigger it, getting to baker didn't trigger it, so I beat Ocelot and went back and oob'd and sure enough the room loaded. So from now on in a speedrun after Ocelot we no longer have to call Meryl and mash like a fucking MADMAN for that super long codec, and we also don't have to go through the other codec either. ALSO now we don't have to go through the sensors or any bs. Just right after Ocelot, go to hangar, oob through vent, and go outside to the tank.
I wonder if this will affect any more of the game and you won't be able to meet Meryl because of it though? I imagine not.
Edit: Just after posting this I realized one bad thing, the level 5 door stays closed and the sensor room is never even loaded. This SHOULDN'T be a problem though as either:
1. When you come back from Nuke Building for PSG1 it might already be open and room loaded, since you beat other bosses.
2. You have level 5 card when you come back anyways, so you should be able to open door.
Also thought you would be able to skip the tank too, as you can OOB in canyon too past the level 3 door, but there is no loading spot for the area. You basically HAVE to beat the tank to advance. Unless it's REALLY specific and I just haven't touched it yet.
Edit: Yep, beating tank fixes the sensor room and opens the level 5 door.
Edit2: You call meryl no matter what after Gray fox fight anyways so yep, all good now. If torture oob doesn't work out and we can't get stinger, at least there is this new timesaver now.
Another update, now found out how to glitch out of bounds at the dock area in the very beginning of the game. You use this new glitch to glitch on top of the pipe in the beginning. Then you turn and wrap around inside the wall and go out of bounds. So now at starts of runs we can just glitch out of bounds, run inside elevator and wait for it to show up.
Edit: Nevermind, you're stuck in the wall and can't make it onto the elevator. You can trigger the elevator to leave without you though which is hilarious. Best part? It repeatedly keeps coming back.
New news! Found out of bounds glitch in the hind fight now. Atm it doesn't look too useful, but it's a start. If we can just get in a useful position where our missiles can hit the hind, we can do hind fight with just nikita only.
No we don't. The main issue now is we can't pick up the stinger. The game only lets you pick up certain weapons when you get certain life upgrades from bosses. Unfortunately for the stinger we need to beat wolf 1 and there is no event trigger of a life upgrade upon walking into wolf 1 area since your final shot on her triggers it. For tank when you make it into nuke building you get life upgrade, for fox when you enter lab you get upgrade, for mantis when you enter room you get upgrade. Bookcase is still in the way but you can just walk through it.
Basically what happens is you go to pick up the stinger and it's red. It goes in your inventory but you cannot use it. We are trying to find a way around it. Slade mentioned oobing past hind, beating wolf 2 for her life upgrade so we can use the stinger. Hopefully we find a way past this. I already found an oob in the hind fight, so who knows. I've been trying everything. Was up until 3am last night testing. Am on stream right now testing as well.
