I just tried it myself. You can make it even easier as if you just crawl into it and press x to get up, just equip psg1 and it will do the oob for you. This is slightly easier than the pressing x and direction method.

Well guys, we finally did it. Mark this day, January 16th 2013 as the day we officially BROKE the game Metal Gear Solid 1. If you remember awhile back I posted a video of me finding the torture OoB glitch in MGS which essentially saves 20 minutes on a speedrun. The one problem with this though is that it messed up stuff later in the game and you couldn't use the stinger. The only way to fix this was to get the sniper wolf life upgrade, or a life upgrade after that. But since the only boss fight after was the hind, we were screwed. You could only beat it with the stinger. Then I found a way to skip the hind fight and OoB glitch out of it, but again we were screwed. The fight doesn't officially end until it shows the cutscene of Liquid's hind going down.

Months of trying and posted glitches here and there. Found a wolf 2 skip and the weapon glitch and even a comm tower OoB, but the wrong tower. We need to glitch out of comm tower B then we could skip the hind fight, go right to wolf and get her life upgrade and fixed just like that. Except we couldn't do it... UNTIL TODAY! Cheesy

I'm not even sure what to all type right now I'm too excited but this Youtube video should explain it well enough. This would have never been possible without the combined efforts of Me, Greg, and Slade. I'm so happy right now and this has now changed the way we speedrun this game. I hope to see a new TAS done soon too TheEnglishMan! Wink

Anyways I finally found the glitch this morning, and while it is complicated a bit, it is 100% doable and only wastes a bit of time (you'll see what I mean) Who cares though?! We can now skip 7 boss fights in the game! Cheesy

Thanks to everyone who supported us, huge thanks to Greg and Slade. Especially Greg for helping me with getting a clip for this video and being my speedrun/glitch partner Smiley well that's about it, and for now.. just enjoy the video Smiley

Also the original stream where I thought of the glitch and figured it out and first got it to work if anyone is interested: http://www.twitch.tv/exisidis2/b/357559240

I just finished a practice run with these new glitches just now. Lots of mistakes and room for improvement, and I still got a 1:22:47!

Here you go:

This was a test run to work on the new route. I tried to pick up Nikita at the armory, but didn't have ammo before reaching Raven (only the 8 in front of his room), so the Nikita should better be picked at the Nuke Building B1. I also ran out of chaff just before disc 2, so we should pick up another set or save one (probably in the tank hangar, or the heliport). I never picked up the Socom, I took the Famas instead, all the ammo we need is in the Comm Twr A. I also was 1 stun grenade short of my usual route, I saved one in the Comm Twr A ascent without much trouble.

Also, I found a way to improve the weapon glitch success rate. We believed that we had to press L1 at a certain time to activate it when in FPV, but any button works actually. So what I do is mash all R/L buttons and rotate the left stick. I have an 80% success rate with this technique.

Nice run Slade! Gonna try another myself soon and see what I can get. Also yeah the Nikita in nuke building B1 is much better to get. Also I think getting the pack of stuns at the top of the room there is wise too. Also I think getting chaffs in canyon on way to nuke building, then chaffs in nuke building+ 3 you get in start of game on heliport are good enough for the whole game. Also no need for Famas IMO, but might be wrong with Extreme mode.
Wow.  Incredible..!
Any chance the one hour mark can be broken? How much more leeway do you actually have?
In my 1:15:37 run, I must have lost about 2 minutes saving and the route was slightly sub-optimal. I wasn't trying to go particularly fast but I didn't lose much time either (between 1 and 2 minutes probably). Optimal time will be over 1:10 for now I think.

I should add that the run is now pretty easy, there remain only the 3 easiest boss fights of the game. It removes almost all random factors, except for the rat and the jeep escape; it adds a new one (clipping on the boxes) but maybe we'll found a reliable way for that. The hardest part of the run is now the rappel phase since we'll have to take minimal damage there. Near optimal times should be achieved soon.
This run needs to be classified as using large-skip glitches (I'll create a topic for that later); the "all bosses" run is way more fun to do.
Noted.

Another question: have you tried if the glitches work equally (or even better) on the PC version of the game?
I didn't test anyhing on the PC version. I don't think Magnum66 and TheThrillness tested it either.
thethrillness.blogspot.com
The PC version keeps crashing on me at random times so I can't even test it.

This guy did a speed run of Disc 2 on PC in approx 25 minutes judging by the YouTube time:

It's probably far from optimal to so max would be like 24 minutes I would say. Then an optimized run of Disc 1 on PC.... probably sub 18 minutes? I think sub 40 minutes is possible on PC once we actually got a Disc 1 time.

I just did a Disc 1 run myself and went optimal as I could with emulator and stealth/bandanna. My disc 2 start time was 27 minutes so a good target for a normal run would be like 29 minutes. My old glitched route when beating Wolf was 22 minutes and that got me a final time of 1:06 IIRC. I think the limit is going to be like high 1:09 with perfect everything.

Sub 1:10 is there easily. With New Game+ with Stealth and Bandanna you are looking at max 1:07. I messed up some sections.

My most recent New Game World Record run:

Is there a pastebin for the current route? I really want to pick this up, now.
http://twitch.tv/Exisidis2
Basically off the start of the run we run normally until we get to the cell area, then we do this:

After we are in the torture area with darpa body and Johnny we wait until Otacon comes with level 6 card and escape normally. Get your equipment then go to B2 and get PSG1. Then leave to comm tower. After you rappel and grab the stinger and enter comm tower B, we do this:

When we get to Wolf 2 we skip her by doing this glitch:

After she is dead we go back up and get the stinger, then finish the rest of the game normally.
Meet Stakhanov!
Wow, man, out of all the games I played as a kid, I never thought MGS would be one to be broken so badly! I'd always wanted to break it and do things that no-one could, massive props on finding something like this Cheesy well done man!
