yup, I do segment it to each chapter and I count time similar to tomb raider 4/5. I check time before and right after level to get what was the segment time Smiley

(They are encoded using anri-chan medium quality so not the best but still watchable)

In the first segment you shouldn't need to walk close to the captain, just run up towards the troll right away, the cutscene should still trigger.
Apart from that I got nothing to add to that part.

For the single-segment I'm considering picking up rain, only to be used during the pre-khan fight. Since you are not allowed to scroll the screen immediately at the area with the rain book you'd only loose like 1 second from picking it up. Reason is to quickly make everyone wet for thunderbolt spamming to be easier. This might not be needed for a segmented run though, since riskier strategys can probably be used instead.

It depends how many times you want to use thunderbolt, I personally think about using it only before khan, but guys there are armored so it should be enough anyways... but if it's really only one sec to get the book and you will use it at least one time that should be worth trying...

All of the large brutes and the adepts will take two hits unless wet. There's at least 4 brutes and 2 adepts so it might be worth it. Unless I try to squeeze in a waterball from a good spot. I'll have to see how much I can manipulate their movements.

For one of the hits on the chapter 2 boss you can stand directly under his head and cast an IceIceIceIceRock on yourself and it will hit him before he leans down for an attack, which saves a little bit of time. That and a fully charged Icex4 Rock is enough to kill him. It's looking very good so far (Haven't been able to see the new C1 video or the C3 video because zippyshare is down at the moment.)

Edit: For the third boss the best strategy I found after a lot of mucking around was to spam 1x Arcane 1x Earth at him as fast as I could. I got the kill .500 seconds faster than your video, 15.500 instead of 16.000 (Timed it from when the cursor first appears after the respawn black screen to when it disappears from the screen after the kill), and at least for me it was a lot more reliable than trying to shotgun him. The arcane shield is definitely not strictly necessary, but it would make a single segment safer for a very minor time increase.

another patch and i have quite a problem. Every time i load save from chapter 3 it spawns me right on the boss fight...
ok the issue is slight bigger, my chapter 3 is limited now to boss fight only, i know it's good for speedrunning but i don't think it's ok with the rules XD can any1 confirm that bug or it's only my PC?

Ditto, even reaching Ch3 normally goes straight to the boss fight.

The rules say to speedrun whichever version is fastest. Thing is, every level might have to be the same version, ask mikwuyma about that.

I wonder how this would work for steam games in general.
Other people wanting to challenge this run would have to be able to obtain this specific version, or the record would be unbeatable.
SDA is not really keen on hosting runs that can't be obsoleted due to technical reasons so I don't know about remaining at this version. I guess what we really will have to do is wait until it the patching settles down and becomes reasonably stable.

for now, doing segmented run is just hell, every two days there is new patch...
It can be also considered as separate category, I think I'll take my chance and do it on this 1.3.4.0 and see what will happen...

I doubt it would be a separate category since that wouldn't change the fact that others would still not be able to beat the run because they can't obtain that bugged version.
I think it's best for us to wait with recording until they stop patching so frequently.

Not exactly sure whether that's relevant, but: You can kill everything with "Death" as long as you are able to walk near enough to it. 'Death' will try to hit you if there is no valid target around. Even if the enemy is not a valid target, if he gets hit, he dies. So walk near the enemy/boss, cast death, dodge it in the way he gets hit and you defeated something.

It's probably not the most efficient thing, but it may be useful in some cases.

Oh It's efficient alright. That's what I use for Fafnir, 2nd Vlad and 2nd Grimnir fights in my SS attempts.

On another note, I don't know whether that was a bug (probably) and/or is fixed already:

On my playthrough I never really fought against Fafnir. I somehow simply walked to the bottom right of the screen and the ending sequence was played.
