HOLY CRAP, THE LEGEND LIVES! I'm definitely onboard for STCE. Between the SDG route sounding interesting (Protongue told me over twitter that we'd be skipping Intenso, for one thing) and the fact that swaphopping is still in, I CAN'T WAIT!!! Grand Temple is gonna be maximum butt clench.
Also, Khaled, please come back to running Guacamelee; you're like our version of the legendary wizard Merlin.
I had a chance to play STCE on Friday night at a friend's house, and it was awesome. When checking the leaderboards on Xbox One, it was cool to see your name at the #1 slot, Khaled. I don't have a modern console, so won't be running the game just yet. Here's hoping for a PC release!
What's the best SDG route for STCE? I didn't have much time to experiment, but here are a few new (and likely unoptimized) skips to consider: 1. During the first visit to Forest del Chivo, set it as SDG warp region, and Start + Quit in Temple of Rain after acquiring Olmec's Headbutt and Goat Jump. This warps you to the Canal de las Flores entrance. This skips the second half of Temple of Rain, Hernando's at Santa Luchita, and Intenso 2. After Canal de las Flores, set Desierto Caliente as SDG warp region, then enter Temple of Rain from Santa Luchita and Start + Quit. This warps you to the El Infierno door, so you can move left to acquire Pollo Power from El Diablo. This skips practically all of the desert. 3. After Temple of War, set Pico de Gallo as SDG warp region. Then use any Olmec to warp to another Olmec and Start + Quit. This warps you to the Olmec at the top of Pico de Gallo, from where you can backtrack slightly to acquire Goat Fly. This skips the first half of Sierra Morena and practically all of Pico de Gallo
An important note about SDG on STCE (Xbox One at least), accessing the glitched main menu was shifting the game to the land of the dead (even when I didn't have Dimension Swap). To go back to the land of the living, you might have to select "Start -> your save file" from the glitched main menu. However, it's ideal to be in the land of the dead for skip #2, so simply Start + Quit from the glitched main menu when setting that warp region to preserve the dimension change.
The timing for SDG feels quite different on STCE. Eel noticed that there is a noticeable delay between pressing Select and the map coming up, and you need to incorporate this delay into the timing of pressing Up on a door.
Press Select, wait ~0.1 seconds, and then press Up. It took me quite a few tries to get the timing right, but hopefully it works on Wii U too Anil8r.
Nice! Without Temple of War, the STCE run might be faster than the original game's run. Blue shield RNG plus ruthless Great Temple arenas... it's going to be challenging!
I'd love to see a skip for Canal de las Flores, as that section is lengthy with its boat autoscroller and dialog. There might be a way to skip it using an existing save file at Canal de las Flores, assuming STCE works like the original game. You guys with STCE, would you be willing to test this out? * Load a save file at Canal de las Flores. As Juan (no costume), activate select door here, and choose "Start -> new save file" through the glitched main menu. * Assuming the games doesn't crash, a new game should begin. Play normally (no SDG activations) until Temple of Rain. Get Olmec Headbutt and Goat Jump. Take the Olmec back to Santa Luchita, and then Start + Quit. * The game should load at the Olmec in Canal de las Flores, which is close to Frog Slam.
Note that hypothetical Canal skip is questionable for a true speedrun, since it uses an existing save file to start a new game. But if it works, it will produce a lower in-game time for the leaderboards.

well since STCE have 3 save slot you can pretty much skip any level by sweeping between the 3 save files and using SDG lol

Wow, setting up SDG on other save files throughout the game will enable some pretty big in-game time skips. It seems only the second half of Sierra Morena and all of Great Temple are safe in STCE.
Quote from Jstarks19:
Hey Protounge i tried it out the canal skip on stce and i could warp to canal it just wouldn't put me at the Olmec head just at the start of the area.
Thanks for testing that out Jstarks. Just to confirm, did you Start + Quit after you used the Olmec in Temple of Rain to travel back to Santa Luchita? In the original game, using an Olmec and then doing Start + Quit would load the game at the Olmec in the SDG warp region. If it doesn't work, then there might be another warp index that corresponds to somewhere close to Frog Slam in the Canal. My theory crafting ends there though - I'll leave it to you guys with the game to figure this cool stuff out
Sorry, I am relatively new to the game and am looking into helping with the stce . So i am not exactly sure about all the glitches and how they correspond to the games code but what i did was use my 100% profile to get to the olmec head in Canal. Then i went into the town to find a door, used the up aand select glitch, started a new game and then played that all the way up to the end of temple of rain where you get to the Olmec head. Warped from there to Santa Luchita, when i got to santa luchita i used the Start + Quit and was warped to the start of Canal. Its definitley a timesaver but i was nowhere near the Olmec head. Again, i am fairly new to the mechanics so im not sure if that was correct but thats how i did it.
Also does anyone have any work into routing the super turbo championship edition. A lot of the chests as well as powerups are in different locations and i cant seem to get a good run down seeing as i am unsure of 1. what i need and 2. where to find it. I can do most of the tricks involved in the run im just having trouble with "swap hopping" as well as locations. Any help would be welcomed and appreciated, thanks!
Hey guys, i was testing some stuff relating to the SDG and Canal as well as setting up separate save files and i found something funny. It saves literaly no time but non the less i thought it was interesting. On the STCE if you use a previous profile, where you have access to Canal, go to the town near the Olmec head and instead of select + up into the house at the lower part of town use it leaving that house and then go to options and exit them then start a new game on a separate profile and as soon as the game starts save and quit. You will be teleported to the Olmec head in Canal, but you will still be in in your casual outfit. If you then change you're costume to tostada( with any costume) you will disappear every time you move:) I'm not sure if this has been found already but i thought it'd be an interesting thing to share. Ill do some more testing with it and see if i can do the Canal skip.
It worked!!!!! Protounge i got the skip to work. You just have to select + up when exiting the building in Canal, not when entering. Then when you get the head butt and the goat jump you head to the Olmec statue in temple of rain and warp to santa luchita and mid transpot you save and quit and you end up at the Olmec statue. Now the autoscroller is deafeated!!!!
Oh damn all of this new stuff sounds incredibly interesting!
I just got back from a trip to Jacksonville with some less than desirable events occurring over the weekend. But hopefully will get a chance to hop on STCE tonight and see if I can't get a solid route - or at least experiment with all this new tech!

Alright cool! I've been having a hard time with routing, but yea the tech is extremely fun to mess around with:)
I'm looking forward to your routing results, Eel. With all of these new skips, money and stamina must be incredibly sparse. You should do a stream if you're up for it
Well damn it guys. I think the Canal skip might have something to do with either game completion or certain power ups or areas being cleared. I had accidentally deleted my game with almost 100% completion. So in an effort to test the skip out again I played all the way through the game until i made it to the Canal with frog slam and all . I got to the Olmec head and attempted the SDG and started a new profile in which i made it back up to the temple of rain and tried the save and quit warp but it just put me at the start of Canal. I have pulled it off before so im unsure of what caused it not work. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the above stated game completion, area clearing or certain power-ups because i tested it a few times all without success. Srry guys:( ill work on figuring it out in the mean time.
Taking a break from running Guac has allowed me to focus on making the any% tutorial stuff for the original game, and I think I'll be focusing on doing that even when I return to running it next week. I was initially going to release the entire thing as one video, but then I figured that it might be easier for someone to learn and practice the run if I did segments in individual videos. This way, anyone looking to learn the run is not overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information and can go back, watch each segment individually, practice it, and progressively add to what they know.
I'd like to ask you guys if it's cool if I link to the Guac videos you've posted on the Guacommunity channel and elsewhere. First video I'm going to put together is going to be about the various enemies we encounter during the run, and effective ways to deal with them.
