This game is really fun, and it's pretty much designed to be played fast.  The game even has a leaderboard for speed runs.  After only 6 playthroughs, I've gotten my time on Normal mode to 1:29, with 0 routing, basically going only off of memory when looking for stamina chunks.  The number 1 spot on the leaderboard is at 1:07, and I definitely think I can get there if I actually mapped the route out, and didn't die multiple times on Jaguar like a scrub >_>
Thread title:
I found some skips/techniques for guacamelee, here's a playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLINsfeGtBfvsKlWI-AgO9w6EoT6V8tybI
Goat climb can be almost skipped once you have double jump since there is an infinite wall jump technique I found. Sadly there are blocks which goat climb breaks that you can't break to my knowledge otherwise. You can also do double jumps off a wall using the air roll to buffer a wall jump, before you have double jump. Don't think it really has any use, but it's pretty interesting anyways. Good luck beating the 1:07

Newest time is 1:19.50.  Still have no idea how to cut 10 minutes out though.  Even with 0 deaths I'm saving at best 4-5 minutes.  Only other guess would be to cut more stamina chunks out, but I don't really feel like routing that.  Just gonna grind out practice runs until I get a deathless for now.

Edit:  Finally got that deathless run!  1:15.09!
I'm starting to wonder if the 1:07 run was done with 2 players.  Either that, or there's a major skip that I don't know about.  My run is absolutely NOT flawless, but I don't see how I could've possibly made 8 minutes worth of mistakes.
Shoryuken?
So my new personal best is 1:49...but it was really crappy.  No clue how to beat 1:20 - The guy who has the leaderboard record is a riddle to me. 1:07 , how?

I will try to find any useful skips and post it as soo as i found out.
Shoryuken?
Oh by the way . i did it with 1 incidentially health upgrade ( in normal mode i do not need any) and 4 bars of stamina.
Only 4 stamina bars huh?  It's been over a month since I ran this, but I believe my route had 5 bars at the end?  Maybe, I don't actually remember.  But yeah, in a good run you shouldn't need any health upgrades.  Only problem with that is, there are some enemies who can kill you in anywhere between 1 and 3 hits (I know the giant skeleton's smash kills you in one hit).

My PB is 1:12, and I have to agree, I have no idea how the number 1 guy got a 1:07.  My PB is deathless, and from what I remember, didn't have any errors that caused a 5 minute loss.  My only theory that doesn't involve an undiscovered skip/glitch is that it was a co-op run, which I could see how that could save major time fighting a lot of enemies.
Well I am picking this back up, I ran it a lot when it first came out and took a break when I hit number one. Checking today I noticed someone got a 1:07 and am baffled at how it happened. I'm doing a practice run today for the sole reason of looking for glitches and skips. One thing I have noticed is they added new costumes with effects, the one in particular I saw was a skeleton costume that gave you infinite stamina. I can't help but feel that would cut down a lot of time but would it still be considered a legit run?
The different costumes would be a different category I assume.  I've stopped running this game until I can buy some recording and possibly streaming equipment, but if you post or stream any attempts I could attempt to offer some help, with what I can remember from my runs.
I currently don't have any equipment myself to stream. I found myself being really rusty on the run (was at about 56 mins at FF) but looking at the costumes I see some potential to speed things up, one costume allowing you to deal and receive massive damage, which would be a real payoff if you can have the fights memorized. I normally get no health upgrades and go to 3 stamina in my runs but I will have to see if such low health would be viable with taking extra damage. I will probably continue testing later tonight.
Seeing as you already die so quickly in a normal run, that costume sounds like it would be really risky.  Although, since deaths don't cost a super large amount of time, the reward could really be worth it.
I need to nab a couple more silver medals in the dlc to unlock it, my only real worries are the final temple with all of the wind enemies, possibly the jaguar boss as well, but he's usually the cause for my runs to die anyway.
Calaca can also kill you in 2 hits on normal mode, so I'd assume with the costume and 0 Health upgrades, he'd kill you in 1.
Well, Calaca was always an easy boss for me, the Juanita costume which increases your damage a little made the Flame Face fight take about half the time, so I imagine just how fast rooms could be cleared with the major damage boost. Another thing to note is that costumes can be changed at save spots, so I am trying to route where infinite stamina would be beneficial over the damage.
One thing I just thought of, the costume with infinite stamina could be used to infinite chain bosses with Olmec's headbutt.  Could be worth testing.
I was thinking that as well, going to test it on Jaguar tonight or tomorrow
One other thing I would like to discuss is the fastest form of movement, I was playing with walking/rolling/chicken and it felt like rolling was slightly faster than the others but some other input would be appreciated.
One hand is enough.
Skeleton Costume is certainly very abusable. As for movement speed, rolling is the same speed as running (tested that in 2 player), but roll-jumping gets extra distance. Pollo form runs faster than human, and doing rolls canceled into derp-derp dashes with the skeleton gives a good boost of speed, particularly when the pollo isn't applicable. Another bonus to the skeleton costume of course is no waiting in-between breaking blocks in earlier puzzles.

I should be practicing this game more often soon, hopefully I'll be able to optimize some things. By the way, the 1:07 is a segmented run, which they segmented by doing cross-saves between ps3 and the vita.
I didn't think about trying to use roll dashes with the skeleton costume, going to have to use that for my next run. I went ahead and tested the Alebrije costume last night with the Jaguar/Calaca/Final fights with a single health upgrade, I did end up taking one death on Jaguar but overall the kills were significantly faster.
Oh and thanks for clearing up the 1:07, that was bugging me for the longest time.
Well a little update, I did a run today and despite being really rusty, making a lot of wrong turns, and having quite a few unnecessary deaths I still managed to beat my old PB and get a 1:17. Costume switching has potential to shave a lot of time.
Got my PB down to 1:13:35 today, If I can get it to under 1:12 I hope to start streaming.

I'm pretty sure rolling is faster than running, it's just you have to keep up a constant roll, which is kind of weird to do because mashing the L2 button is awkward.

I'm upset now because someone beat my 1:12 in-game run, now I'm #3 instead of #2.  I want to do more runs now to take it back, but I also don't want to do them until I have recording equipment.  And if that's true about the 1:07 then that makes me super happy.
Oh hey, look what DrinkBox Studios just made:

Halfcoordinated, where did you find out that the 1:07 is segmented?  I'm asking because I just checked what the sum of my best splits is, and it's a 1:07.05, without extra costumes.  Now I'm definitely quitting until I get some recording equipment, because I don't want to get a run like that if it ever happens and not have evidence of it.
Are you using any noticeable skips NiL8r? Doing pretty good on runs I manage to only pull about 1:13 in game time, my fights are for the most part solid. In the temple of war do you run back or do you take the olec statue?
