wow. good job on the run. Im a fan of ffx, and that time is incredible.Speaking of being a perfect segment freak, i know someone who might have you out-perfectionist-ed. Look up "ff7 speedrun" on youtube, and look for the ones by 'GarlandG.' Every single segment so far is flawless. On my last check, he indefinetely delayed his speedrunning because of game issues. And that segment six, that was abnormal luck. did you forget to go to church, cause God was like, "HAHAHA, Psych!" Also for you FF nerds out there, look at this awesomeness: http://forums.qhimm.com/ specifically http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11781.100#msg174653
These people are awesome.

We already know GarlandG here at SDA (also known as GarlandtheGreat). Have a gander through this topic

560 attempts? You're insane dude. Keep up the great work.

thanks for the thread post. I admit, i didn't look too hard for it before i found this one. And GarlandG does great things. I figured you might have a connection, but assuming so would be even more awkward.
Yes, I am very familiar with GarlandG's FF7 run.  I only wish he had gotten around to finishing it :/
So yeah... I beat my single segment record again with a time of 10:49:50, which will probably come out to 10:48 SDA time.  However, this run was so bad in so many ways, that I have no idea how I even got this time.  If you fix all the completely idiotic mistakes in this run, it probably would have been sub 10:45.  Since I have already submitted my 10:50 run, I'm not going to submit again until I get a much cleaner looking run, while still being significantly faster.

Still working on Segment 9; I probably won't stream this segment because it is not very interesting to watch.
Touhou anyone? :D
I'm a little confused... So you submitted an SS run and you are working on a multi-segment run, am I right?

I submitted my previous SS record, which is still in verification atm. About a month after I submitted it though, I decided I needed to keep improving the time. I'm not going to resubmit yet though, until I get a much cleaner looking (and faster) run.

So I am working on both segmented and single segment right now basically.

Segment 9 is done.  I decided to give up on getting one encounter on this segment, because I wasn't getting anywhere close to making it.  In fact, I was getting three encounters most of the time. I honestly don't know how I managed to make it through with one encounter on that test run, but I am just calling it a fluke; cause I don't see how it could ever happen again.

The attempt I ended up keeping I actually did three weeks ago.  The only mistake was running past the last sphere in the trials, but it only wasted about a second. There actually are a lot of annoying text skips in the later part of this segment that can waste a lot of time if you don't mash properly.  I did it almost perfectly on this attempt, so I would be hard pressed to save much more than a second on this segment, overall.

Segment 9 time: 31 minutes 3 seconds | 151 attempts.

Save at Luca Stadium - Main Gate [2:29]

I am going to be doing a Single Segment attempt on New Years Eve, starting around 7 AM EST.  For a holiday special, I will finish the run regardless of the time (unless I Game Over of course).

Segment 10 is done.  The main goal in this segment is to get a Thunder Ball from Oblitzerator, but I also need to avoid Lulu taking hits and getting in critical stance. When she is in critical stance, she has to take time to stand up before casting, and that adds up if she does it a lot. I got almost perfect luck on the workers, except for the 2nd battle where the workers crossed the screen to attack.  I also evaded those attacks, which wastes time as well. The Oblitzerator fight went perfectly, including getting the Thunder Ball.

The game decided to fuck me over near the end though, not letting me skip a "cutscene" where Wakka is laying on the bench groaning.  This wasted about 4 seconds.  Then I also had trouble getting to the save sphere at the end, because the game didn't let me run the right direction when the screen changed. Considering how good my luck was in the first part of the segment though, I am just going to have to suck it up, because it's very unlikely that I will be able to save any time.

On the bright side, I did save 28 seconds on this segment compared to Essentia's run, due to not running to the 600 gil chest, and defending with Tidus instead of attacking (since I am not in a hurry to fill his Overdrive).

Segment 10 time: 11 minutes 51 seconds | 120 attempts.

Save at Stadium - Locker Room [2:41]
I beat my single segment record again today with a time of 10:49:34, which is 16 seconds faster than the run I did two weeks ago, but probably still 10:48 SDA time.  This one was a much better looking run, but it's not quite fast enough yet to re-submit.  My new goal for re-submission is sub 10:45.  I think even sub 10:40 is on the verge of being possible, but that would require insane luck and execution to pull off.
Make it so.
Was this on your new years eve stream event? Gutted I missed it! Congrats and keep up the awesome work Smiley

Segment 11 is done. This actually took me less time than I expected. Obviously I needed to get all 3 blitzoffs, but I also needed to score as close to the end of the game as possible, to avoid the Goers wasting time with the ball at the end. I scored at 4:59, so I timed it pretty much perfectly. I was a little bit slow selecting the actions with Wakka, but it was no more than a second. Other than that, I think the only time that could be saved is from not breaking a defender before shooting. This only saves about 3 seconds though, and it decreases the scoring chances significantly.  Considering how epic the literal last second shot is, I'm not going to try to push for a 3 second improvement here.

Segment 11 time: 13 minutes 54 seconds | 50 attempts.

Segment 12 is done. Deciding when it was done was rather difficult though, because of how random the Garuda fight is.  The Sahagins part was rather simple, but Tidus evading right before he attacks wastes at least 2 seconds each time. Being underwater, the effect is even worse than usual.  This part went pretty much perfectly on this attempt, since I didn't evade at all, and Tidus got the last two hits (Wakka's attack animation is slower).

For the Garuda, I needed to inflict Slow on the first turn, get as few counterattacks as possible, and get at least one crit with Auron.  I also wanted Tidus' overdrive to be filled as much as possible (He doesn't need the AP). I ended up killing it with only 3 counterattacks and 2 Sonic Booms, with 1 Auron crit. I would have liked to have more than 1 crit, but there was one attempt where Auron crit twice, yet it was still slower due to more counterattacks.

This attempt ended up being only half a second faster than my previous best attempt, because my controller decided to not let me cut a corner sharply, wasting about a second and a half (oh well).

Segment 12 time: 20 minutes 11 seconds | 243 attempts.

Save at Highroad - South End [3:15]
You know, they are re-releasing this game on PSVita, and if they allow cut scene skipping, a run of it would be much much faster. Let's hope Tongue
King Wabasami
Yea, Its coming out on ps3 too.
Even if you can skip certain cutscenes, I doubt you will be able to skip every instance of dialogue. Many of the long unskippable cutscenes are at the ends of segments, so many of the segments won't really be any faster to run.  In the case of single segment runs, the HD remake will probably just take away all my bathroom/lunch/shower breaks. Segment 13 is done. I don't think I could have asked for better luck here. Only 9 encounters (including the Auron tutorial encounter), and I didn't get attacked a single time.  That's right, not a single enemy attack.  Also, Yuna went first on the bomb encounter, so I only had to swap characters once there.  Tidus talked on a couple encounters but it wasn't that big a deal.

However, it couldn't be a miracle segment without a total fuck-up at the end; this time being completely my fault.  I accidently ran past the compilation sphere, and then clicked on the tutorial thingy instead of the sphere. This boneheaded move wasted about 3 seconds, which was actually less than I was expecting, but I don't think there is any way I will be able to get an attempt this lucky again, so I have to keep it.

Segment 13 time: 16 minutes 7 seconds | 115 attempts.

Save at Highroad - Agency [3:31]

Also, since I was so damn lucky, Tidus still didn't get any OD filled, so Chocobo Eater is being a massive pain (already up to 140 attempts on it).  I have one decent attempt saved where I got to the end without an encounter, but Tidus didn't get hit, so I am still trying.

Segment 14 is done.  I hate Chocobo Eater with a passion now, as it has been screwing with me in both segmented and single segment lately.

Fortunately, at least one of those is past now.  I changed my strategy for this boss at least twice in the midst of attempting this segment, and I think my final strategy turned out to be the best.  Given how luck reliant it was to actually kill CE with Valefor, as well as avoiding an encounter at the very end of the segment, I gave up on requiring CE to hit Tidus to fill his OD.  It would have been a bonus if it had hit him, but it won't be a huge problem.

The most important change I made is to not land Slow on CE.  This is way too risky to do in an SS run, but for segmented, it is way faster to kill it with 4 Energy Blasts, vs. 3 Energy Blasts + 6 Fires.  If CE has Slow on it, Valefor's Overdrive will not get filled quickly enough to do 4 Energy Blasts.
Another thing I changed is the pre-summon actions, so that CE will usually only get 1 turn before summoning, even without Slow landing.  If it gets a 2nd turn, it will usually push me back, which is really time-consuming. To get around this I changed weapon with Tidus, Dark Attack with Wakka, Lancet with Kimahri, replace Tidus with Lulu, switch weapon on Lulu (so she gets AP), replace Lulu with Auron, do Power Break, replace Kimahri with Yuna, and summon.  Then it is just a matter of Valefor evading and taking no more than 3 normal hits (only 1 if PB doesn't land), and CE not doing You're Next! except on the turn after the two turns of Darkness. Oh yeah, and the Energy Blasts need to do enough damage to kill it also.

If all that wasn't hard enough, then I have to avoid getting an encounter on the way to the save sphere at the end.  Fortunately, that managed to happen after a nearly perfect CE fight.

I watched the successful segment, and it was good.  One caveat, though: something you did in that segment will adversely affect the Extractor battle if you don't fix it at some point before then.  (I'll see if you can figure it out yourself first.)

EDIT: and I don't mean not filling Tidus's OD.

EDIT2: I watched some segment 15 attempts, and it sounds like you already noticed what I'm talking about, so never mind.
Yeah im assuming you are talking about the weapon change.  I am wishing I hadn't done that now though, cause I forgot what my plan was for the Djose Highroad.  I was initially planning on just getting a pre-emptive strike on a Basilisk encounter, where Tidus would only have to defend, rather than change weapon.  Now I will need to change him back to Stunning Steel on that encounter.  However, I may need to manipulate the Basilisk hitting Tidus for OD, so it may work out in the end.
Segment 15 is finally done.  The encounter RNG was not being very kind to me on this segment.  I needed to get only 5 encounters total; either 4 on the bottom section and 1 on the top section, or 5 on the bottom section and 0 on the top section.  4 and 0 would have been a miracle, given how rare they both are.  However, I also needed to get the specific encounter of Raptor/Red Element/Funguar: to fill Valefor's Overdrive, get AP on Tidus and Yuna, and get a Speed Sphere and 2 Mana Spheres.  Several times I got through with 5 encounters without getting the encounter I needed, or I would get a Pre-emptive Strike on that encounter, making the turns not work out right.  As well as not getting ambushes, I also did not want to get any Garudas, since they take forever to fly onto the screen, and often get a turn before Tidus.

I finally made it through with 5 encounters, no Garudas, only one enemy attack from a Raptor, and I got the right encounter for Valefor.

Of course then nerves kicked in and I did very poor menuing after I got through.  The Sphere Grid part wasn't terrible, as I just accidently scrolled past Kimahri and had to go back, but then I totally botched the formation changes; wasting about 4 seconds fumbling around. I really hate leaving such sloppiness in a segment, but it is highly unlikely that I would be able to beat this time, even if I did the menuing perfectly.  I could just chalk it up to luck manipulation too though because...

Segment 16 is also complete already. Yes, that's right, the Sinspawn Gui segment was completed in less than an hour of actual playing time.  I got the critical Self Destruct on only the 4th attempt that got to that point and only 12 attempts overall.  Somehow, the segment that was supposed to take the most attempts in the entire run has now taken the least attempts so far.  The only things I can see that wasted time on this segment were Auron taking 2 seconds to stand up for Power Break since he was in critical HP, Auron dying and then taking a while to un-die and run off the screen when I summoned Valefor, and Gui doing less Demis.  The arms didn't regenerate after Gui's 3 attacks following Energy Blast, so that is a plus.  With this strategy though, I think it might always do Demi/Attack/Demi following Energy Blast.  The Gui refight did Demi twice, which I guess isn't too bad, but one or none would have been better obviously.  I'm not pushing my luck with any of that though.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

Holy crap Cara I saw you practice that countless times and never got a crit wow.
Segment 17 is complete.  In this segment, I needed to learn Stone Breath on Kimahri and get through with only 4 encounters and no attacks.  It is actually just barely possible to get 3 encounters, but the chances of getting 3 encounters and having one of them be a Pre-emptive with Basilisks is just too low to bother.  Actually, one of the times I got 3 encounters, it ended up being 4 seconds slower than my best 4 encounter attempt.  I had to change Tidus back to the Stunning Steel on the Stone Breath encounter, even though defending would have been faster, but since I changed to the other weapon on the Chocobo Eater segment I had to fix it here.

I really hate the Djose Cloister of Trials, especially when I have to do it at the end of a great attempt.  The main reason why this took so many attempts is because I was trying to get a perfect run of the Trials.  Unfortunately, I could not get it perfect, but there weren't any huge mistakes.

Tidus still did not get hit, so he will need to get hit by a Garm twice on the next segment.
