Hello,

I'm totally new to speedrunning FEZ, and I just wanted to know if something like a written route (Pastebin or such) exists so I can train myself, or if I better have to watch the actual runs to have something to train with ?
I'd like to do the any% clockless at first Smiley

Regards,
Gyoo.

I'm working on a route right now for (what I guess it's called) all collectibles. If I'm correct this includes every key, treasure map, artifact, cubes, anti-cubes, and red hearts. I expect to have this finished (keyword: expect) by Monday, I've already finished all of the first area of this game and going to the green colored area. Like I said, I'll try to finish by Monday, I'll keep you guys posted. By the way Gyoo, if you want, after I make this route, I can make a pastebin of the All Collectibles route once I'm finished. Smiley
WELP! I've actually completed the route today :P. Here is the route for All Collectables Dupe-less. http://pastebin.com/MyjS4u3R

Sorry WonderJ for the extremely late reply XD
I'm currently trying to revive the FEZ community a bit. I went back on FEZ like a week ago, and after I posted a new PB on Reddit, a few newcomers shown their interest in the game and want to give it a try.
I don't think there's any leaderboards, so I'll try to gather the PBs I'll find here and there to start one, and maybe I'll try to do a tutorial when I'll be consistent with all the tricks.

By the way, my PB is currently 34:31 on any% clockless Tongue
I just started running this game, and I'm curious about how the puzzle skips work. Are you sure it has to do with the previous save file? Because I tried clearing the save slot first, then starting a new game, but I still accidentally got the puzzle skip. Not sure why it's still happening even after I cleared my save. Do I have to actually go into the file system and delete it myself or something?

That's something I don't think I ever faced :/ If I ever get a glitch (Mostly for me, the clock glitch) I just restart my game.

I would be okay with just restarting if it didn't happen often, but I got it three times in a row :/ is there anything I have to do other than just clearing the save file from the options menu and starting a new game? Do I have to start a new game on a different slot or something?

Maybe a new slot can be helpful. I personally use a slot dedicated to my runs (because my 209.4% is too beautiful and I want to keep it Tongue )

Just created a channel on SRL's IRC servers : #fez

I just played through this game normally, and I love it. Thus, I wanted to maybe start speedrunning it. I started looking at the routes though, and I noticed that some glitches, for instance the corner long jump glitch, doesn't really work for me. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong, or if it's because I'm using the PC version 1.11. Also I don't quite understand the puzzle skips.

I also discovered a glitch (it might have been found before) where in certain spots, you can hang on a ledge, turn the perspective, and then you can be holding onto nothing, and even jump from that spot. If you climb up though, you'll start falling at full speed right after your climbing animation finishes. A good example is in the room where you have to jump on the 2 invisible platforms to get to the treasure chest at the top of the room (the treasure map in the lighthouse points to this chest), you can grab onto the ledge of the first, switch the perspective once, and jump to the treasure chest platform, effectively skipping either one or two perspective switches (can't remember which way the chest is facing) which saves a couple seconds.
I'm very interested in speedrunning this game I have it on the 360.
Sorry meant to include more in my last post, do these strats and glitches for the PC work for the 360? I realized I was in the PC Game section so I was just curios.
Hi there,

This game has been out for a while now, but still, I'm actually discovering it, and enjoying it. I'm not considering doing any speedrun of the game at the moment, but I'm curious about categories it has. If I'm right, there's any% (clockless or w/clock), and all collectibles. Anyone ever considered routing anti-cube only ? Wouldn't it be interesting ?
The cake is a lie
Anti-cube only should be possible to do, but kinda long, and also I don't have any route for this.

Also, I'd like to talk about a glitch I had today, I'd call this the "bell glitch"
When entering the bell room, gomez was already hitting the bell. I know that when this happens, you need to get out of the room and get back in, otherwise the bell puzzle isn't solvable.
I kept my run going after this, and then, the 2 purple rooms puzzles solved instantly as I entered the rooms (These are the puzzles where you need to play with cubes you grab, when you do a certain shape they transform into an anticube)

That indeed saves a lot of time, but I'm not sure this should be counted in a run, because that happens like once every month or something...

What you guys think ?

PS : I have a video of my run, I can try to encode it and publish it if you want.
just recently got the idea to get into speed running with FEZ being my first game,
currently my time is 41:10 on any%(clockless ver 1.11), though I think i can improve my route a little.
I was wondering if anyone had a reference route for such a run? most of the runs faster than mine are using ver 1.7? and so can long jump to skip some parts, like the extra cube at the beginning.
The cake is a lie
You can ask Forstride who is currently running this category : http://www.twitch.tv/forstride or @Forstride

Also profiting of this post to announce that we moved de leaderboards to speedrun.com : http://www.speedrun.com/FEZ
I just got a PB of 33:33 so am going to start recording now. I was just wondering how runs get posted to speedrun.com.
Also what is a good way to layout the video? I see that in the videos at speedrun.com, the game is completely unobstructed, is this necessary, or can the timer overlap the corner of the game screen? I assume that they cannot overlap, just wondering since nothing else is being recorded and there is a lot of empty space.
The cake is a lie
Do as you please, it's nothing "official" like SDA.

As long as we can see most parts of the game it's ok if the video comes out of your stream with all the layout and stuff
I'm interested in running this game, but can't due to 12 second (ish) load times. That is, unless the IGT doesn't measure them.
I have a couple of questions about the current route, though. The whole reason we didn't use the clock tower was because of the whole modifying the system clock. Given that (afaik) the timing is set on game start, would it be OK to go for the minute cube at the tower? It might also be possible, depending on the timing, to get the hour cube as well.

I don't see why not. However, you definately won't be getting the hour cube as FEZ very kindly does not depend on the time that you started, but rather the time since you started, and the hour cube takes 45 mins at earliest to spawn.
EDIT: you can climb the clock tower in about 25-30 seconds, so depending on your timing and the exact mechanics of how the anti-cubes spawn, you could be waiting around for quite some time, negating how badly you do on the earlier parts of the run (to an extent).
EDIT 2: Or I'm completely wrong as I just did a run where I got to the clock around 14-15ish minutes and the hour cube was there...
I uploaded a not so great run that was my pb yesterday,
The important part is that I found a faster way to solve the cube puzzle in the giant statue (starts at 20:29). When executed properly (The cube that starts on the far right can be moved all the way into position in a single throw), this only takes about 24 seconds from entering the room to collecting the anti-cube.
The cake is a lie
To get back on the clock tower stuff :
Anti cubes appear based on your computer clock, this is nothing ingame at all.
Thus, to get something optimzed, you would have to deal with something that is outside of the game (changing your computer clock to the time you want), and that's why it has been considered something we shouldn't do during the speedrun.

Also bluecheetah you should check my strat for that anticube you're talking about. It's about 24 seconds too, but anohter way Smiley

@19:40
Arggg... I just got a 31:30 on ver 1.11 and wasn't recording...
But it was not a perfect run and I can probably improve on it by 10 seconds or so.
Hopefully I'll be recording next time...
I was aware it was computer-clock based, I just thought it set a start time when you launched the game, not at some definitive time (like 12:00 AM).
Also, do you know how accurate in-game time is?

Not accurate enough for speedrun at least, since it only counts minutes, hours and days.
Well, people use this kind of timer for Metroid games, but since the run is half an hour long I don't think it's really accurate enough.
Maybe with an autosplitter that removes loading times... but I'm not qualified to do this Tongue

Hello,

Just a heads up to show you that I killed the any% clockless category :

Well, this is on 1.07, I don't know yet if I'll go for the current version category or not ^^

Bye~
