Update, because why not. It's pretty much break-time for speedrunning Digimon World currently, everyone who has been actively running this game in the last few months is kinda busy atm. We'll come back eventually though Tongue The fastest time for 100 Prosperity is now finally sub3:30, with a 3:26:01:

The WR for any% is still the 1:29:08 i mentioned a few posts ago. I have some ideas and it will be improved eventually, I promise. So yeah, that's whats been going on (or rather, not going on) lately.

Aaand one month after my last update I can now post a new any% time: 1:27:04. I avoided the huge blunder I did at the MetalMamemon-manipulation in the 1:29:10-run, saving a little over a minute there. In addition to that, I got absolutely godly RNG in several parts of the run, which cut off another minute. The run is still not perfect: I messed up Goburimon-skip and lost 26 seconds for it. There also seems to be the possibility of an alternative shopping route, saving roughly 20 seconds, though I haven't tried it myself yet. Anyways, feel free to check out the run. If there's any questions, ask away, I'm usually checking this thread like once per week Tongue

Hey guys. It's been a while. I was sorting through my emails when I saw an update from this thread. I forgot all about it, but to anyone who was curious, I did actually get some work done on that document I spoke of.

It's been a while since I edited it, so I can't verify its accuracy too well, or vouch for its readability. I left commenting on, so anyone can make some annotations if they'd like and provide feedback.

On the subject of creating run categories that filter out glitches, I know it was months ago that this conversation took place but I thought I'd chime in. I'm actually doing something similar with Spyro 2. In Spyro 2, glitching is rampant, so I thought I'd try to make a version of 100% that involved far less obvious glitches. I did this not because I didn't like glitches (I actually like the standard any% and 100% categories just fine), but because I thought a run that abided by the rules that the game was supposed to uphold on its own would present new challenges and be interesting in its own right. It's tough to make such a category for the game but it seemed interesting to me.

To be honest, I'm not well versed in DW1 speedrunning, so it's hard for me to have an opinion on whether or not a category should exist. While I do think creating a category with only a small difference seems nonsensical, I think also that trying to convince people to stop running a subcategory like that is futile. I'd love for every speedrunner community to all be one happy family but it seems to me that sometimes certain strats can arise that cause any% and 100% categories to evolve into much different gameplay over a period of time and unfortunately some people don't always like the way it grows. Most people, I think, will simply adapt and are only interested in reducing their time as much as possible in those two categories, but I'm happy to see the remainder get some speedrunning in too. I'm not sure if that reflects well upon the single-segment run or not, but it's just an observation I have made. I want runners to all be happy in whatever alcove they choose to be in.

I'm going to start running this game next week, it will be my first game I've ever tried speedrunning. I've already taken a look at the videos and guides you guys have posted (most of the recent stuff anyway) and I'd like to thank you guys for making all of this information available for people looking to pick up this game to run. Just wanted to let you guys know your work has inspired me to make this game the first one I speedrun and I hope I can be a helpful addition to the community once I figure this stuff out.
I've speedrun this game and got 1:44:03, Sparsie's video is really helpful despite I don't or can't follow every step inside his run... While this game has many error rooms and RNG to screw your run it's still worth to practise and grind the RNG for it. Even to me it's still more lenient than you speedrun platform games when they can finished < 1 hour but has 100 chances to kill/reset the run....

Hey dudes and dudettes, just wondering:
Why has no one thought about maybe doing Bingo in this game?
Is there just no interest anymore? I think it would make this more interesting, because you wouldn't have to use Birdramon every time.
Sorry if I'm wrong in that regard, I haven't really done a run of Digimon World myself - just heard rumours and whispers Roll Eyes
Stats could be restricted, so it would generate what stat had to be highest, meaning some evolutions wouldn't be possible to achieve + custom goals.

Is this a bad idea? Am I to be considered stupid yet?

I created a bingo a couple of years ago:

Since then I stopped doing speedrun stuff, so I don't know if people still run bingos or even normal races.

By the way congratulations Azure! It was a great surprise to see DW in the SGDQ schedule =)

This is incredible. Big congrats, Azure! I haven't even heard of these great news before.

Digimon World was one of my best gaming experiences when I was younger. I couldn't really beat it though, because the PAL version was unbeatable ;P
I hope this game gets more love again very soon, it's still one of my favorites.

Unfortunately due to the very small size of the community it's hard to get races going, and when there are races it's usually the shorter race-only categories Sad

Also I'm a little late but congrats to AzureFlame4 on getting Digimon World into SGDQ. Hopefully I'll be able to say the same thing about BlackWin5 getting the game into ESA.
another short update. I got a new PB of 1:25:50 and we are pretty certain that sub 1:25 is in the reasonably near future.
