Umm, thank you, Broman (?)

Well, once again, I didn't wanna post here until I had some real news to report, but since the thread got bumped, I might as well. In my last attempts, I didn't learn too much. I did learn that you can give Unimon a small recovery or any other healing item to recruit him. He will still only appear after you have talked to Centarumon in the clinic, though, so it will only save maybe 10-15 seconds of buying a bandage and like 100 BITS.

Aside from that, now that I will be training, I was looking into whether or not it was worth it to do a Bonus Try. Apparently, 3 of the symbol you are actively training gets you 3x experience, 3 of any other gets you 2x experience, and 3 golden poops gets you 10x experience. The time it takes to successfully do a bonus try is going to be roughly equal to the amount of time it would take to do 2 normal tries if done quickly, so the only one that is really worth it is the golden poops. However, I read about a lot of people who were trying to do it on an emulator and the game apparently will move the poop past you even if you click right on it sometimes. Some theorized that you can only get the golden poop once a day or at certain times, but regardless, repeated success seemed almost impossible. Thus, if I do any Bonus tries, it will be once at the very beginning of the training segment. I will obviously now be training during the time where I was previously resting. But, if I get gabumon's stats too high, then I risk digivolving into the wrong digimon, so I have to be careful about that and determine whether Bonus Try will actually save me any time. I also have to see if it is wise to go out and try to beat some stuff as Gabumon once I've gotten the basic required stats, rather than spending the whole time training. That's all I have to report right now. I'll post again whenever I have some more news and I'll do my best to actually work on this, but I never get much free time anymore now that I'm working. This run will get finished eventually, though! I will never give up on it.
It's a BIG HEAD!
Oh hai. It's good to see you are still at it, as I do believe I simply could not do it.

I never did those bonus tries, so I have no idea on that (Hell, I didn't even know about the golden poops).

But, if it takes the time of two regular tries, if you can find a consistent way to get triples, it should be worthwhile.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Supposedly, there is a trick to it which works on the North American version. not sure about others.
This game is amazing. It laughs at you, even more if you try to cheat it.

I've been researching the golden poop success pattern a bit, but I haven't found it yet. If the game allows you to get the golden poop bonus, I've noticed it "helps" you by selecting the poop even if you hit the button at the previous symbol. If not, this wont happen and the last poop will be skipped.

Anyway I don't know if it's worth getting the golden poop bonus in a real time run. It'd be a ~2 minutes segment for each try, maybe?

Here's a bit more info about the Bonus Try: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/913684-digimon-world/46690478

So basically, the training is the same bullcrap everything else in the game is... you have to be there at the exact time to have everything work like you want.

All the more reason to believe I'm never gonna be a person to manage this.
Pls, dont give up this speedrun *-*

I'm rly excited to see it! Smiley
Just a boy and his digimon
I promise, I haven't given up on this speedrun and I won't. No matter how long this takes me, I will get it done. Turns out that I am a thousand times less productive during the summer. With my friends home, lots of work, and a new relationship, I still have no new progress to report for this run. Within the next week, all my friends will be going away to their respective colleges and I'll be back to my old grind. Fortunately, this means very little schoolwork and plenty of time to devote to the speedrun.

Once again, I apologize for how long this is taking me, but I promise that I'm going to make this run as good as I can possibly get it, no matter how long it takes me. The good thing is that restarting the game over and over won't drive me crazy anymore thanks to the long hiatus. I'll have an internship to deal with this semester, but I don't think that should take up a lot of time. From now on, maybe I should promise an update AT LEAST once every week so I feel obligated to get something done and stop letting this thread die, then be revived by someone who thinks I have given up.

In fact, I will do that. From now on, I promise to update this thread once a week with updates, even if it is just to let you know that I'm still going. That might give me the motivation to push this thing out within the next twenty years. Wish me luck!
Brasil wishes you Good Luck!

It's been over a week.

Eh, yeah, just posting to point out I'm still lurking.
Just a boy and his digimon
Sorry, this weekend has been insane for me. I had a summer job that ended today, so my boss decided to give me an assload of hours for Labor Day weekend. I'm sure I'll appreciate it when the check comes in, but right now, I'm exhausted. All of my friends are moved into college as of Friday. I didn't forget to update once a week; I just forgot what day I posted on last :/

As for the game, I tried starting it up to find that my controller wasn't working in slot 1 for some reason, then had a series of technical issues and had to go through all of my PS1 memory cards to find which had which files. Everything is in order again and I will get some ACTUAL progress on by the next update- NEXT MONDAY (that's for me to look at, so I know which day to update by).
Last time I tried to get Garurumon, I actually wound up getting a numemon despite getting the stats required for garurumon and having no care mistakes, but he only weighed like 5 g when he was supposed to be 30. From what I understand, digivolution is supposed to give the digimon you want if you have 2/3 of the requirements for it. At that point, I gave up for a while because I was frustrated that I could still fail to get the digimon I wanted after all the time I dedicated to finding out as much as I could about how this game works.  I'm gonna look into bonus conditions. Up until now, I couldn't find any place online that listed a recommended discipline/happiness condition, though I just found one that suggests 90% discipline. Anyway, hopefully that won't be a problem again and I can get back to perfecting my route.

Quote from Baron Dante:
Mt. Infinity not opening, and Ogre Fortress not completable.

The strange thing is, I have that version and never saw these.

As a European digimon player I've got to comment on that. The Ogre Fortress counts as not completeable, because the fortress guard won't leave it's post, NEVER! But there is a glitch that allows you to enter the fortress. IIRC you have to change betwenn running and walking while pushing diagonal in the guard. That allows you to pass him. Maybe that could help skipping the "first" Ogremon fight?

For mount infinity i dont know what triggers it, but it happens once a milenium, or two. never happened to me^^

Good Luck for your run. Will definitely watch it.

EDIT: Ups, forgot a "first" there :p
Be careful to save before you try, cause its easy to get stuck in front of the door, not being able to enter. Hope its even possible for US version.
Just a boy and his digimon
Here for my weekly update. Thanks for the info and support, Elren. If I understand what you're saying, then it doesn't sound like I would be able to skip the Ogremon fight in Ogre Fortress, but if I can glitch past the guard, then maybe I could fight Ogremon in his fortress before fighting him in the Canyon, which might allow me to skip the canyon fight altogether. I'll definitely look into it.

Also, no progress this week (again T_T"  I'm gonna play it all day tomorrow, I swear!) I WILL have real progress by next week.
It's a BIG HEAD!
@Elren: Weird. I never had such issue.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
There must have been more than one version if it's not just on one copy.
Tried the glitch metioned above, and it worked, i got past agumon only to stay in front of an invisible wall. Heard there were issues not being able to see, wether the gate is open or not. Now i believe it Cheesy
As I tried the glitch now a better description:
Go to the left side of agumon(The one further away from the area entrance), then hold up pressing triangle again and again, and change between pressing left and right. You will get behind Agumon eventually(actually its pretty easy to do)
Hope it helps in any way.

@ Baron Dante: I guess u have the UK Version, I know for sure that at least this is considerable different from the other pal versions.

Just a boy and his digimon
Alright, so I know I'm a day late, but I passed out early last night. So, I was able to successfully get Garurumon by getting his weight requirement right and high discipline. Though I realized that it is essential that I get Palmon early if I am going to hit the 30g weight requirement. I also got Garurumon on day 4, which is helpful, because I was used to not digivolving until day 5 otherwise. This might help cut off a little time. He digivolved the second I hit 30g. I wanna see how early I can get him to digivolve. Those giant meats help a lot. Garurumon started with winter blast, which burned through MP like crazy, so I took him to Freezeland to learn Ice statue. His stats were pretty low and I was a bit concerned with how many ice statues he would be able to get off before he ran out. I'm currently testing to see how high I can train Gabumon's stats without causing him to digivolve into something other than garurumon.
On a side note, I tried your strategy to get past agumon, Elren, but also got stuck on an invisible wall. I also tried it at the waterfall to see if I could get into Mount Infinity early, but it didn't work. Thanks for the heads up, though.

Also, I believe that before, I said that the butterfly appears when your digimon is unhappy. It seems that it needs to be both unhappy AND malnourished for the butterfly to appear. I made my garurumon miserable while trying to raise his discipline, but it didn't show up until I stopped feeding him. And even if I didn't feed him, it still wouldn't appear unless he was below 50% happiness. Just thought I would clarify. That's what I got for now. I'll keep you guys posted.
It's a BIG HEAD!
Would it be possible to just force-feed him as much as possible, even ignoring the care mistakes?
Just a boy and his digimon
Sorry, meant to update a few days ago, but I've been rather sick. I'm pretty certain that force-feeding counts as a care mistake, but I can attempt it and see what happens. However, I'm not certain that it would be worth it to do so. I was planning on getting Palmon anyway for an easy point. Also, if I get strapped for BITs, I can sell large meat to buy more sm. recoveries or MP floppies. I'll experiment a lot with it this weekend.
It's a BIG HEAD!
I'm also fairly certain they count as care mistakes, but I was wondering how it evolved the moment it hit the weight... maybe we could ignore the mistakes and have him evolve?

Yes, Palmon is necessary to get, pretty much. I'd say he should be fed with everything directly on your route, including Palmons meats. (Assuming this works)

If it works, it might be possible to have Garurumon by day 2. day 3 at the latest.

gl man i loved this game when I was younger

edit 22 october: any run is awesome. but i would to witness a 100% run, which is like impossible xD
Just a boy and his digimon
Gah, I'm so awful at updating this thread. I've been taking a bit of a break to try and beat Dark Souls, plus I'm going through midterms this week and I've got a friend visiting from college all this week, so I'm trying to spend time with him while he's home. No progress to report, sorry.

And thanks very much for the support, rickyjay. Obviously, I loved it to, despite how sadistically difficult it seemed as a kid.... maybe that's why I love Dark Souls so much...
Hee, I love difficult games.

In case nobody knew, my favourite is Phoenixmon purely because of this game. That was the first Ultimate I got, directly after a brutal match with Greymon. Bloody awesome.

The circle finally closed when defeated Machinedramon at the Ice Sanctuary with one. You can imagine the pain of those rematches without a monster that can counter his Gear Shift whatever boost move, after which all attacks aside from FINISH deal a whopping 1 damage. -.- It was a long and tough fight with all the healing items.

Yay for old memories.
I was considering starting a segmented run of this game but after seeing all of the work and planning that has gone into this so far I'm fascinated and overwhelmed and I'm afraid to commit to anything like that.
Would appreciate an update
