Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Game: Final Fantasy X-2
-PS2
-3:30:00
-It would have to be New Game+ because it's the only route I'm good at since I can never finish a new game run cause of dying.
-the pro is ng+ is short
-the con is ng+ is boring...
-one incentive is for me to play blitzball during chapter 5 (the best kind of blitzball)

Game: Kingdom Hearts Re:CoM
-PS3 (the HD version cause of faster loading times, so I have been told)
-3:00:00
-Riku's story only cause I don't like Sora's
-uhh... is there any pros? Disney. the pro is Disney. Everyone loves Disney.
-the con, KH games get less views in a marathon despite it's big fanbase
-don't know of any incentives...

Now the thing is that I won't know if I would be able to go to C4L until a month or two before the marathon due to money and getting a ride to the airport. So let's all pray that I will be able to go. If not, I'll be trolling the chat with MS Paint pics.
Execute.
As much as I'd love to attend via the suggested flight route (and any other for that matter), money is, and will most likely continue to be, very tight. I have accepted my continued role as stream monster unless a miracle occurs which my rational thinking says is not to be expected.  Thanks for making the effort of looking up a route for me though, I appreciate it.
Everything's better with Magitek
Denton and I are planning to come to this. I still need to get some time estimates, so I'm not going to post my game suggestions just yet.
The Wayward Wanderer
As with Essentia, I am planning on showing up, but I lack estimates at the moment. I'll be able to have the estimates within the next week or two.  I'm planning to run through Ys I+II Chronicles and YS: Oath in Felghana on Steam.  I know that it may be cut down to just one, so the main one I'd choose would be Oath. (If there are issues in the possibilty of streaming PC, I do have those games on PSP.)
Ok lotta ground to cover here...

1) With Poxnor in Vancouver, I may have to step up to be the person with which JDRF meets face to face for awhile, hopefully someone (cough* Brettatron* cough) can help...

2) Everhate needs to offer Soul Blazer. But if he doesn't, I'll continue learning it and offer it. so...

Game: Soul Blazer
System: SNES
Estimate 2:30:00
Plug: The first of the Quintet Trilogy (followed by Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma) having the trilogy would be wonderful.
Drawback: There isn't a true marathon route, it'll need to be routed. But there's 10 months, and barring Everhate doing it, at least 2 of us can route it.

Either way, I'll be involved since I assume I'm picking up 80% of you all from the airport...
The other thing:

I gotta talk to the roomie, but as he is a massive gamer too, it looks like we should be able to house about 6 people. So, I would suggest if there are 6 people that would love to come to C4L2 but can't quite afford it, there's an option...
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Well, I would have updated things this morning when I got up, but someone went and melted the poor SDA forums.  I'll call them the "502 crew" Smiley

Everyone: I remember romscout and puwexil saying their top pick out of the multiple ones they suggested.  I thought that would be good information to put in the first post.  If I missed anyone else saying they had a top choice out of the games you posted, just drop me a line.  If you're equally cool with any of the games you posted...well, that makes my life even easier.

I think this post should bring everything up to date in the first post.  If I missed anything, please just let me know.

*****

MetaSigma: 100% Evermore with all-bosses incentive added.  I approve of you using the proper spelling of "armour" in your 100% definition Wink

Vulajin: Added the two Pokemon games to the list.  I do have a question about your suggested times -- why is the "gameplay" time so much lower than the time with a buffer?  Are the games that random, or is the in-game "gameplay" timer that much slower than realtime?  (Also, good to meet you -- I think this is the first time I've met you?)

AlecK: Put you down for the requested commentary.

rinimt: Ditto.

Wypy: Oops, forgot to add you to the attendees list.  You're added.  Hopefully I didn't miss anyone else.

Rane: I put you on commentary for SD3; but, if you change your mind, I think that game can be played three-player (can anyone confirm?).  Regarding Sweet Home: I'm totally okay with a patch-cart being used.  I'll list Sweet Home as Japanese at the moment, but I'm cool with a fan-translation on console if you can get it.

Mercury.Com: Put you down as an attendee.  Goes without saying that you would get first priority to the commentary couch for whatever you wanted to commentate.

Ginzuishou: Ditto, what I said to Mercury.

Lag.Com: Dark Cloud added.

Chrno: Added you for the two Elder Scroll games.  Is there any advantage to using the 360 version instead of the PC version (aside from having fewer PC games to get working on marathon day)?

Augora: Like I said to CrystalBeauty, MegaKidIcarus, and Potato Handle earlier, just let me know if you can commit to trying to come.  If you want to do that, I'll happily add your games to the list.  Otherwise (just like I did to Potato Handle), I've left them off at the moment just because you seemed really tentative.  If you want me to change that, just let me know Smiley

Essentia: Added you and Denton to the list.  But yup, you have plenty of time to decide on what games and time estimates you want to propose, so no rush.

Keypaladin: Cool, I added you to the attendees list.  Once you toss me some estimates (no rush), I'll add those games to the games list.

Driscollad: I added you and Soul Blazer to the first post.  Right now, I think things are going smoothly with JDRF; we're doing everything by email (planning, scouting, etc.).  The first time where C4L will really need people on the ground in Edmonton is when JDRF thinks they've found us a location or multiple possible locations.  That's where I'd want someone with marathon experience (e.g., you or Brettatron) to go and check out the physical space, the Internet connection, etc. -- those things where I'd feel more comfortable having someone familiar with what we need checking it out.  Regarding the offer of housing people: thanks for the offer!  Let's see where things go with the hotel for now, though, before we worry about it.

Thanks! There are a couple reasons the estimates are as they are. Primarily, I followed the Uyama school of estimation by adding 5 minutes of setup time per 30 minutes of play, plus 5 in general because DS games. Then, in addition, I added extra buffer to account for failing RNG manipulation one or several times. Finally, about 5-10 minutes of the estimates are for deaths and assorted failures that could occur. 10 minutes is on the conservative end, because I'm a little paranoid.

RNG manipulation in these games requires setting the DS clock and then starting the game at a specific half-second. Thus, it's realistic that I don't get it right a couple times. In the marathon, I can save right before choosing a starting Pokémon, which reduces the time wasted per failure to a small amount (~1.5 minutes). (My success rate at this is pretty high lately, and I will definitely be practicing up until the marathon.)

This is the first time we've interacted, so hi! I'm looking forward to meeting in person at the marathon. Smiley

(edit) I sort of failed to answer your actual question. "Gameplay" is meant to be an estimate of how much time I will actually play the game once the run starts. The main estimate is how much actual schedule time I think the game will take up, including setup and other such things.

Moo! Flap! Hug!
Vulajin: Okay, cool.  I'd love if those two numbers could get closer together then before marathon time [edit: assuming that they're accepted; that'll all be coming together end of September].  For example, look for ways to streamline the DS setup, so you can basically just plug it in and you're good to go come game-time, etc.; but that's still many months away.  Thanks for erring on the side of being conservative, though -- I don't think anyone ever really went wrong doing that, lol.
Haha, well, I can see that the current estimates could be considered excessively conservative. I'm still going to follow Mike's suggestion of adding 5 minutes per 30, so let's call the estimates both 4:00:00 and call it a day. Even on the worst of days, setting up the DS capture takes almost no time. As long as we prep the streaming setup for it before the marathon, everything should be fine during the run. (RNG manipulation drastically reduces the occurrence of deaths/other failures.)

Oh, Skyrim was offered as well.  I can commentate that too.

As for a "preferred" game, I'll go with Mass Effect.

Edit:  I also highly recommend using the PC version of any Elder Scrolls game, setup be damned.  They are universally better for running and viewing.

SDA Speedruns: 1
(1) Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon
(2) Wii
(3) 7:00:00 Roughly. Will be more precise later
(4) Chocobo Cuteness
(5) Too much Chocobo Cuteness

(1) Suikoden
(2) PS3
(3) 5 hours
(4) Awesome PS1 Game with tons of possible characters and good gameplay
(5) Not any that I can think of other than not as good as Suikoden 2
"Let's put a SMILE on that face!"
I'm not sure if I should offer games just yet, as I have absolutely no idea if I can make it (May 2014 is a ways off), but since FFGamer is offering Suikoden, I might as well throw it in, if nothing else but to elaborate a bit on it:

(1) Suikoden
(2) PSX/PSN
(3) Any%:  4:20:00ish; Any% glitchless:  4:45:00ish; 100%:  5:10:00ish
(4) Playstation-era RPG, quite popular among RPG fans.  Both gameplay and commentary are very well-received on my stream.  Wide variety of donation incentives (main character/castle name, recruiting optional characters, fighting bosses); could also donation incentive to do 100% or any% glitchless.
(5) There are a few parts in the game that are predominantly luck-dependent, and as such, the estimates have been skewed to accommodate them.  The game also has a few sections that are little more than text mashing, so there are moments of downtime, as it were.

So having streamed a single segment run of Dark Cloud today, I'd like to amend my estimate to... 8 hours. Hahaha

The only sensible donation incentive I can think of would be names for 6 characters (10 letter max, some symbols). 'Primary' character choice isn't really a good idea because the game involves swapping a lot and also NO ONE IS TAKING OSMOND AWAY FROM ME

Even though Secret of Mana can be 3p, they actually didn't add that function into the sequel. However, there is a patch that adds 3p compatibility, but obviously we would need to test that this works on console with a translated ROM.

I've got a multiplayer adapter, just no flash cart. I'm not sure what would be the best option to do to do such at this point, but at least I could help in some way. Maybe.

We require more minerals
Poxnor, I'm so sorry but I have to propose this game.

The Legend of Dragoon
PS1 (played on PS2 slim) 14 hours
adding in time for marathon saves and in case of needed backup save loading, this game can crash but standard disc speed would add multiple HOURS to the run

Legend of Dragoon uses a more interactive battle system featuring additions and mashable attack items that completely break the game.

I have had a lot of people ask me about running this game in a marathon and honestly C4L is the only one where it could ever happen. This is considered a classic by many people and isn't really breakable in terms of sequence breaks and glitches, but the combat system is very abusable. The main draw would be to watch me destroy my index finger from mashing over a 13 hour run as the main way of racking up damage in the speedrun is to boost attack items by mashing X as fast as possible, and the best way to skip text to save time is ridiculous. I more than halved FFGamer's marathon playthrough of this game on his stream that took 26 hours when I got the record.

Sadly there isn't much in the way of donation incentives besides picking up all 50 stardust and fighting optional bosses. The optional bosses would be pretty difficult under speedrun conditions and I need to figure out how much extra time that would add to the route. The extra levels from doing the extra bosses would significantly lessen the excitement of the conclusion, though as it can be extremely down to the wire at times in a very long boss fight. Given how long the normal game is, adding these on top would probably be pushing the time way too far except maybe just picking up the stardust. (~30 minutes added)

Drawbacks are mostly above. A very long game with a few large sections of down time without the ability to rename characters and no real donation incentives. Character choices aren't really up in the air as switching the party around just wastes large amounts of time over the course of the game.

Plus side is that marathon strats wouldn't add a whole lot of time as marathon strats would simply be saving before fights and places where the game can crash.

P.S. There is no way I can in good conscience not mention this. There are multiple points in the game that can randomly soft lock with no way for me to avoid it. I am not entirely certain how many of them are as I keep finding new ones, but they all appear to be very low (<1%) chance to happen. This very rarely comes up but a crash at a few points in particular could cost significant amounts of time. (post Imago for instance)

In the likely case that the above game gets rejected so hard that I'm left dizzy for a week I will pitch a shorter indie RPG in advance.

Cthulhu Saves the World
PC 1 hour

A very silly fast paced RPG by Zeboyd Games. This features playing Cthulhu as the protagonist as he attempts to become a hero so that he can unlock his full powers and then destroy the world. A very tongue and cheek game that sadly most of the humor will be lost in due to text skipping being nearly instant. It is still very obviously ridiculous while watching and a rather short entry.

Again not a whole lot of donation incentives besides doing a few of the optional dungeons, but a couple of those wouldn't be actually doable under speedrun conditions. I'd need to test that out.

edit: Probably better to just do one of the Zeboyd games and not both.

I'd really like to go to C4L even if none of the above get granted and can definitely help out with the streaming station, donations, giving other tech people breaks, but would obviously be easier to justify the cost if I was playing something.
Kupo!
I guess since Raelcun offered it, if it does get in (I know it's long and really pushing it), put me down for Legend of Dragoon commentary. Seeing as I did kinda help route that game it only makes sense. Tongue (I can also take over for controller duty in cutscenes and such if Raelcun needs/wants a break XD).

Unfortunately, there's no chance I'll be able to make it, but I can definitely help with any routing/questions that come up. Reaif's SGDQ2012 run has marathon safety stuff built into it, so is probably worth taking a look at for that side of things.  Been thinking that getting the magic bell might make a decent marathon incentive, but I've only tentatively routed that.

Just let me know if there's something I can help with.

Game 2: Secret of Mana
System: SNES (or Wii VC blablabla)
Estimate: 3:00:00
Info: Do we really need to tell what this game is? :p What we'd love to do though is a co-op 2p run with MisterMV. Though this comes from a long shot, as we, right now, haven't been able to even start training on it...
Downside: See a loved classic gets glitched and bosses get one-hit-killed?
Incentives: Names and weapons used, for the most part.
Watchability: I believe SoM is a VERY popular SNES game, both in North America and Europe. It's a colorful delight with very good music.

If you need coaching or anything along those lines I'll be happy to help out
-> Initially doing 2-3 casual playthroughs with the speedrunning route and strats makes the intimidating monster of a run into a tame and cute walk in the park ^^

Please add me for Soul Blazer commentary (and Terranigma if someone offers it).  Soulgaianigma power!

Wow, this marathon is right up my alley! First week of May is probably too soon for me though. I'd have to see the exact dates to be sure, but that's dangerously close to graduation. If I end up being able to go, I'd have some kickass games to offer. If not, best of luck to everyone involved, and I'll be back next year.

Thinker & Dreamer
I have talked about attending; if I did, I would love to do Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and perhaps Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
- System: Playstation 2
- Time: 4:00:00 any%
- Pretty popular series and the most known game from it. Very exciting and fast paced and utilizes a lot of unconventional techniques while still being marathon safe.
- Donations include naming (and even choosing) characters changeable at any time of the run, costumes for characters, play that one infamous cutscene, and fight the last boss gimped.
- There is a bit of running around at certain points of the run, but they are good times for donation stuff.

I have even considered doing the post-game stuff as well (which does the Maze of Tribulations and Sphere 211 and fights the megabosses) which ill add about 3-4 hours to the run.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
- System: Playstation 2
- Time 1:30:00 - any%
- Another series that hasn't gotten much love, and while it's most different, it's by far the shortest and most enjoyable to watch (even for the atmosphere and music); a lot of tricky movement and management is needed to make the run a success!
- Donations include character names.
- Possibly may seem like a lot of running around or some bosses get cheaped out too easily.

Felly and I have also been sort of routing a 1/4 D-ratio run (essentially 100%), and a run of that would be viable with NG+ (cause no one wants to watch 3+ hours of Elyon loop grinding) and add a few hours to estimate.

Thinking about it, I could also do if Claude is not attend is: Final Fantasy Tactics
- System: Playstation
- Time: 5:00:00 any%, 6:00:00 any% no math skill)
- Classic game that pretty fun to see busted apart. No math run is also viable if you don't want to see everything get Flared and Holy.
- Donations include naming characters and possible decide which run.
- Strats can get quite samey if doing a math run.

(I just wish there was a Touhou RPG I could play that wouldn't be like a 20 hour run)
