If it's a 4-12 min difference I'd say just run the English version so the viewers can follow the cutscenes and menuing.

Moo! Flap! Hug!
I agree with puwexil.  For that short of a difference, the benefit of keeping the game in a language spoken by most viewers is worth the extra time and potentially slightly less-entertaining strats [edit: or, if the bosses are trollier, then potentially more entertaining strats, lol].

I pondered the idea of a bidding war between the two versions for a little while, and I don't even really like that idea (I don't foresee many people caring enough to bid either way; then, we lose viewers if Japanese wins).  If you're okay with running the English version, I think it'd go over better to do that version.

[edit 2: Now, if anyone can offer an English vs. French language bidding war, watch out JDRF... Wink ]
Fucking Weeaboo
That's fine with me. At least I can still stunlock Hitodama with my US route (worst boss for trolling probably in all 3 runs).

Sir VG: Okay, I updated your game proposal to be for the English version.  I think that's for the better Smiley

Tohmane: ARN -> LHR -> YEG.  You know you want to.  But, even if you can't, thanks for your support.  It's been the support of all the great people like you that's helped make C4L a success Smiley

mikwuyma: ...?  Umm, I won't even ask Smiley

One of SO4's options for text language is French... Wink (It's one of six options in the PS3 version. Can only go between English/Japanese voices though.)
that Metroidvania guy
I have to bring this up purely out of curiosity (I'm not necessarily planning on submitting this but it's something to consider). The Wikipedia entry (I know, reliable source) for Symphony of the Night has "action RPG" listed in the genre. You level up, you have different stats that increase as you level up, and you have equipment and items just like in any other ARPG. Thoughts? Or would this be something for the track reviewers to consider?

Something really borderline like that I'd probably not only hand off to the track reviewers, but then let the community at-large comment on the track reviewers' conclusions if they were non-unanimous.  I realize that calling something an "RPG marathon" will naturally lead to extreme borderline cases like that.

(Edit: and this response was not meant to be a cop-out.  As we venture into those extreme borderline cases, we're venturing further from the kinds of games that I run, and thus further from a place where I can say anything intelligent about the matter.)

(Edit 2: Gave some more thought to my original answer.  Revised it, because -- intentionally or not -- you asked a really good, and a really tough question there, romscout.)

Evermore Extrodinare ᕦ(° Д°)ᕤ
I'd be willing to learn and actually do 100% Evermore. It's an overall better watch than any% and I can always make it a little more interesting since there are a lot of things I CAN'T do. Plus ya know...I'm sure I could coerce I MEAN bribe I MEAN convince MV and Rayas to do commentary :P. I mean think about it. You got the French Champion MV on the same couch as me at the same time with a stud like Rayas. That's gonna def bring in some love Wink

Basically from what I'm seeing the estimate would be around 2:10:00 and on top of that it really lets the game be broken even harder than it already is in some cases.

Anymore info needed?

Moo! Flap! Hug!
This word, "hearse," does not mean what you think it means Wink

Aside from that, I'd be happy to add 100% Evermore to list of suggested games.  Could you do me a favour and write 2-3 sentences about the virtues of a 100% Evermore run (for people who have only seen the any%, or haven't really watched Evermore).

(Edit: And please include a definition of what 100% Evermore means.)

100% Evermore includes much more of the game and allows you to see much more of the game than the broken mess that is any%. Now the reason 100% can be even MORE broken is because you can pretty much destroy everything even if the atlas glitch fails on you. Since there are multiple back up strats available that are very very much available and useable. Where as Any% it's all about Atlas glitching and going to town. 100% allows for the more subtle touch in a sense.

Also 100% Evemore is defined as this

All Alchemy
All Armour
All Weapons
All Call Bead Abilities
All Charms (Marketplace and such)

Also you are correct I obviously cannot pick the right word that I'm looking for. This was why you were the smart one and I was the dumb one at C4L Wink
Would you consider 100%+All Bosses (maybe a donation incentive)?
Evermore Extrodinare ᕦ(° Д°)ᕤ
I could do all bosses as well but the time estimate would have to go up by at least 20 minutes. The reason being is because of the fact the code to get into the Secret boss is somewhat random. By random I mean I don't know exactly the pattern when a certain one is in play. This is very conservative, but yeah it'd have to be a donation incentive in my mind just because of the extra time needed.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Would you be down for adding 100% Evermore to the game suggestion list, with a donation incentive of "plus all bosses" (as your standard, $x incentive gets the cake type of incentive)?

It sounds like 100% Evermore would be quite different from what you did at SGDQ, and the donation incentive would probably get some good interest.
Evermore Extrodinare ᕦ(° Д°)ᕤ
Yeah I'm down with it. Basically 100% is like a full playthrough. Start to finish with everything in between...oh no...I just remembered...PHILOSIRAPTORS IS INCLUDED IN 100% ALL BOSSES DX. The raptors...they are evil...and vicious...the 4 of them are evil....
Well, what the heck. I'm offering two Pokémon games, both of which are DS games. I will provide a capture-capable 3DS in order to stream these games. There will need to be a PC capable of running the 3DS Capture software (low requirements). Streaming from this is pretty simple if you're streaming on the same box; it's a little more complicated if you're not. I'm happy to work with you in advance of the marathon to make sure this goes smoothly.

Pokémon Black
Nintendo DS
Estimate: 4:30:00 (3:35:00 gameplay + buffer)
Description: This is the lesser-loved of the 5th generation Pokémon games. RNG manipulation at the start of the run ensures I get the exact stats I want on my starting Pokémon. It's otherwise standard Pokémon play, but precisely planned based on my manipulated stats. This game also has fantastic music.
Donation incentives: Possible bid war between two starting Pokémon; four Pokémon and the trainer to name.
Drawbacks: This game has two very lengthy sequences of forced battles against trivial opponents (the first is ~15 min, the second ~30 min) to progress the story.

Pokémon White 2
Nintendo DS
Estimate: 4:30:00 (3:30:00 gameplay + buffer)
Description: This is the "sequel" to Pokémon Black/White. This game is well-loved in part because it features Pokémon from all five gens starting right from the beginning. It's also a little more fast-paced than its predecessor, with fewer lengthy dialogue sequences. RNG manipulation is also used in this game.
Donation incentives: Five Pokémon and the trainer and rival to name.
Drawbacks: The final battle music is not very good. >_>

These two games are very similar in terms of what they offer, so even if I wanted to run both, it would obviously be best for the marathon to only choose one of the two. I can provide commentary for either game; however, if there's anyone around who knows a lot about Pokémon games in general, that would provide a great complement to my knowledge, which is mostly specific to generation 5. Alternatively, I would love to have someone to assist by just asking questions throughout the run to keep me talking.
I know a pretty fair amount about pokemon, and not just for speedrunning, so I could commentate either game pretty easily.  Although I haven't actually played B2/W2 yet it's basically a given by the end of the year, much less before the marathon.

You can also put me down for Oblivion commentary (nice how that works out, huh?).

If you could, put me down for Secret of Evermore commentary please. Cheesy

Edit: Just to clarify: I'm looking at about 12-13 incentives total on SO4 - 9 names, text option (6 choices), voice option (2 choices), menu design (2 choices), and potentially some cute/hilarious private actions (the optional scenes I was talking about) that aren't too far out of the way to do (this could be done as a total pack of the 4 I'm looking at right now).
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I have a question, have the track reviewers been determined yet? Are they going to be publically known or anonymous?
Moo! Flap! Hug!
mikwuyma: no, I'll put out a call for track reviewer volunteers in mid-to-late September, once I have a better idea what the tracks will be (that will be based on the distribution of submitted games). Track reviewers will be anonymous, but their comments will be public.
I want off the ride....
I'll throw in my cap. I should be able to budget this provided things keep on track.

Sd3 - That thing its a thing. I'll either rage commentate or race the pair. That'll be interesting /gg j/k. Puwexil / Rom is a better duo than adding me. A bit too far to get regular practice.

Sweet Home - I like to clear them mansions. I mean... its a Horror RPG and has night time written all over it. Marathon safe estimate is about 1:30. I can safely say this because I got about this explaining my route to LLK. At "safest of safe" i'd say 1:35. The game is only in japanese unless we allow a repro-cart to be used (I am acquiring one very shortly thanks to Retrogamer ryan).

There is a potential for two more RPGs but, I want to hold off on them til i have a better idea of whats going on. May just keep em a secret to all but poxnor lol j/k.

just throwing my hat in like a good person ..
Sea of Green
I doubt I could run anything at all, but if Paul is going, you know I'm coming along :p

I will be there. About games, I'm working on a few atm. Once it comes closer to the deadline, I'll make a post about what I can offer.

Last minute edit: I'd love to commentate MetaSigma's SOE run, only if he's okay with it.

I totally forgot to mention this one. It's not quite ready, but it would be relatively simple to work on.

Dark Cloud
System: PS2 (PAL might be required; bug works differently on NTSC)
Estimate: 2 hours if I can get a particular bug to work, otherwise more
Info: One of the first PS2 games. Action RPG, main character looks like an idiot. Catgirl. Randomly generated dungeons, spiritual sequel to Soul Blazer.
Pros: Run gets broken very quickly, quite fast paced, character use donation incentive?
Cons: Random dungeons, so time estimate is hard to give. Somewhat simple once I execute 'the bug'.

SOTN is definitely an RPG, but I don't think it, or any metroidvania (since they're all RPGs even if they're not explicit about leveling), really belongs here.  Same for Zelda games (also essentially RPGs in a sense).

Just doesn't fit the theme of this marathon to me (and it's not like there aren't ample opportunities for the game to be run elsewhere!).

WOW.
Now that in the next year I will have a steady source of income, I want to travel a lot more and I know I enjoyed watching the last C4L too. The idea of an RPG marathon is too good to turn a blind eye. I will suggest two games, and I should first note that I can either of these games on console or PC. I dont know what the PC setup will be like yet, so I'll list both estimates. Crossing the Atlantic costs a lot, though I'd really like to attend.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (all guilds)
- PC/360
- 4h
- 'All Guilds' is basically the main three guilds (fighters', mages', thieves) as well as the main quest. It makes up for the any% route which you can complete in like 11 minutes because of a major skip, so it's a hell of a lot more interesting. Drawback could include the load times on the console version, but Oblivion is a pretty loved game so I think people would like it in a marathon, and the route choice makes it all the more interesting. Will be playing unpatched so I'll be open to all kinds of glitches.

Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim (any%)
- PC/360
- 1:10h PC/1:30 360
- The Elder Scrolls series is extremely popular, it goes with out saying. Since the AGDQ run, a lot of new tricks have been found and we are still finding them as of now. As for drawbacks, the load times on the console version are terrible, as per the AGDQ run. There is not a lot else to say, I think most people know what it's about.

I think I'm going to offer one more game for this (Shadow Tower), but I just want to make sure of the estimate for it before I post here. Thanks!
