do you know when we'll know about skips in FFX?

Supposedly FF10 HD will be released Dec. 31.  Unless they say more about it in the meantime that's probably when we'll find out.

December 31st is (almost) always a placeholder sites use until the actual release date is announced. Signs are pointing towards either October or December for FFX HD though, but if you see December 31st for anything it is almost always a placeholder. Tongue

Edit: Clarification and such.
Hence the caveat. Tongue

SDA Speedruns: 1
For Final Fantasy VIII if Caracarn is interested, we can do a co-op run of that game. I have actually been working on a new route that is more marathon friendly than the current routes being used to get world record runs and is still as fast as them.

This takes some strain off trying to run a 11 hour run solo that includes all the donation incentive stuff like last year.

I wouldn't mind playing around with Dark Cloud NA but I'm afraid of not being able to mess it up as much as I want to and wasting your time and money. :p

Seeing that Caracarn has offered FFIX (which I wasn't even daring to do), I'ld love to put my name down for commentary there. Which also means I've genuinly signed up xD

Insanity Prelude
This is really cool; May is also at the end of my busy season, so even if I'm not running, I can probably make it. As for offers...well the only game I'm comfortable putting down is Wild ARMS 4. I'll hash it out a little bit later. There's also been looking into Grandia 2 but don't hold your breath on this one. I haven't actually tried speedrunning it yet, but since a LLG is totally possible, I'm not worried about getting walled at any point during the game.

Game 2: Wild ARMS 4
System: PS2
Estimate: 5:45:00 (Assuming New Game; there is an option for ACF data bonuses, but those vary from player to player. Last time I did a SS took about 6 hours but I also purposely ran into encounters so I think 5:45 should be easily doable)
Info: Wild ARMS after a major overhaul. Battles now take place over a small 7-hexagon field and uses CTB (ala FFX/FFT) for turns instead of pure turn based, making it semi-tactical. The game is very fast paced in general as enemies and bosses deal loads of damage and are ridiculously quick but not very durable. This leads to interesting strategies that utilize the abilities of all the characters, including turn manipulation, movement manipulation and stat manipulation. There's a fair bit of action/platforming bits as well mixed into it too. As a further bonus, even if you die, you can continue on the spot, so it's actually very run friendly despite the RNG being a jerk.
Downside: The Wild ARMS series has not been very well represented, which means there are popularity concerns for one. There also isn't a lot of incentives to throw together (can't name characters, already avoids all randoms, no hard mode).
Incentives: See above. There some main game options such as things like keeping all party members alive or no continuing. While these sound very natural, because of WA4's nature (fast and lots of damage everywhere) these end up being harder than they sound. There is bonus side content (fighting optional bosses, platforming mini-game) but those won't be part of the main run.
Freshness: Also see above. As far as I can tell, there are very few (if any) other players who run this game, which means it is definitely fresh.

EDIT: Hashed out as mentioned.
EDIT 2: Adjusted some incentives/info to be more detailed.

I will be coming from France thanks to Rayas.

I could most likely learn a solo run but I have to determine something I can master, that is fun and not too long.
I will also learn Secret of Mana 2P run with Rayas Smiley Secret of Mana has incentives for the three main characters. I'm sure there are some cool glitches/things we can find to showoff/add incentives.

I will gladly help with Final Fantasy VI commentary if there is still room on the couch for it.

I am extremely busy these days but I will definitely take time to think about how I will contribute and learning game(s). Also if help is wanted with stream layouts for the marathon I am used to do stuff in photoshop/xsplit.

Cheers!

...Wha?
As this is a Canadian-based marathon, I'm not entirely sure that I would be able to make the travel to Canada. But with so much time to plan ahead and save money, I'd like to believe there's a good chance I could attend.

With that said, I'll go ahead and submit the games I'd like to run.

Brave Fencer Musashi
-PS1
-Sh0rtcircuit, 3:30:00 - PB/WR is 3:19:50
-Commentary: Partly me and someone else?
-Info: It's an Action/Adventure game with some heavy Platforming sections, along with RPG Elements. The music is top notch with a "GLOWSTICKS HYPE" section. Fairly straight-forward run with some impressive platforming sections. Minor skips. Downside: Lots of running back and forth in the earlier chapters. No real donation incentives, except for the Mother Minku% and/or purchasing the Dark Lumina -Finale- Action Figure.

Threads of Fate
-PS1
-Sh0rtcircuit, 3:40:00 - PB is 3:22:37
-Commentary: Myself and whoever wants to.
-Info: Lesser known Squaresoft game, pretty awesome, but very story heavy. Fights are based on lots of RNG, definitely not a run to under-estimate. Yet another straight-forward run, no skips that I know of. Downside: Lots of cutscene stuff, BS RNG. Not really sure of any sort of donation incentives for this one.

Yeah, who can fall asleep during the French re-stream now? xD
On the other hand, Pox, that sounds like the two of us are going to be practising their … *omits adjective* French even more this year, right? 8D
(Yes, I know that Rayas already signed up, but this way we have one for each or whatever)

Also, I'm going to half-raise my hand for Threads of Fate commentary ^^ (Meaning, I might raise it if I play the game enough by then, or I might put the hand back down, if it's too wtf. My game's still on its way across the pond … ^^')
Deal with it!
So many attendees ^^ really looking forward to it. If needed I could also volunteer for commentary on any other Final Fantasy game betweeen 5 and 10 as well. Really looking forward to nex May!

Both games: so beautiful and hype. I shall listen to the Musashi OST now~

Caracarn, AlecK47, rinimt: Darn, that's a shame that we won't know by the end  of September about skips in FFX.  So, on the topic of someone bribing an SE programmer... Tongue

FFGamer86, Caracarn: I'll let the two of you discuss that (PM, email, Twitch chat, etc.) and get back to me.  I won't be imposing controller-trade-off runs on people; I'll only take it under advisement if both/all parties volunteer one.

Lag.Com: Maybe consider looking into it on emulator, then deciding which version you want to run?

Alko: Added you to the attendees (it'll be great to see you again!), and put you on FF9 commentary.

Tide: Added you to the attendees list and put you down for Wild ARMS 4.  I have no idea about any of the Grandia 2 stuff you were talking about, so I left that off for now, unless you get back to me on it Tongue

garik16: I wasn't aware that was an incentive...I thought it just sort of happened... Wink

Sh0rtCircuit: Added you to the attendees list and your games to the list.  Thanks for making the effort to attend, and I hope you can.  I bumped your BFM estimate up slightly, because I thought it was pretty tight to your PB for a live marathon.  If you want me to lower it back to 3:30:00 (i.e., if the game isn't very random, etc.), just let me know.
Insanity Prelude
Poxnor: I'll let you know how that pans out. It probably won't be part of what I'm comfortable with running for a main even though (Bonus stream? LLG = Low level game or basically forced fights only)
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Wypy: Oops, missed your post. When it comes to commentary, volunteer for what you'd like to commentate Smiley Basically, there are three rules for commentary:

(1) If you want to commentate a game, know the game. Be able to say something about it, know the gist of the route, etc.;

(2) Subject to #1, people not running a game at C4L get top priority for the games of their choice; and,

(3) After that, you're free to sign up for whatever you want to commentate.

Really, the worst-case scenario is that we have too many commentators for a game, and need to limit who commentates come game-day. This is a *good problem* to have. I think that even the most entertaining, skilled, engaging commentators can't keep it going for longer than ~3-4 hrs (and that's being somewhat generous). Without being the one actually playing the game, it's hard to keep your energy level consistently high (unless you're MetaSigma, and so wired on uppers that everything comes out at volume 11 even when you're tired Wink Wink Wink ). So, long games need commentators that can rotate.

Good commentary makes a good RPG marathon, so please sign up for whatever commentary you'd like to do.
...Wha?
Poxnor: 3:40:00 is fine. If anything, that will allow extra setup time for the next game. And since it's very possible to die in the last chapter, I'll utilize the Memory Box at the very beginning of the final area, just in case. If used, that will set me back any where from 5 to 10 minutes. There really isn't too much RNG, except for a couple of the boss fights, but even then they don't take too much away from timing. Glad to be apart of this.

Since Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia were offered I feel kind of obligated to offer Terranigma, even though I'm not part of the SDA community I've been doing speedruns for a few months now.

Game: Terranigma (Jp)

System: SNES/SFC

Estimate 4:30:00

Pro: It's a fast paced action rpg not well known in North America because it was never released there but it has beautiful graphics and an amazing soundtrack. It would complete the Soul Blazer "trilogy" which is the main reason I'm offering this game.

Downside: Not a lot of donation incentives other than the file name, i would be up to a lot of stuff not necessarily game related though, like Lion King songs during the clearly Lion King inspired part of the game or stuff like that.
Quote from Withhelde:
I have talked about attending; if I did, I would love to do Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and perhaps Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
- System: Playstation 2
- Time: 4:00:00 any%
- Pretty popular series and the most known game from it. Very exciting and fast paced and utilizes a lot of unconventional techniques while still being marathon safe.
- Donations include naming (and even choosing) characters changeable at any time of the run, costumes for characters, play that one infamous cutscene, and fight the last boss gimped.
- There is a bit of running around at certain points of the run, but they are good times for donation stuff.

I have even considered doing the post-game stuff as well (which does the Maze of Tribulations and Sphere 211 and fights the megabosses) which ill add about 3-4 hours to the run.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
- System: Playstation 2
- Time 1:30:00 - any%
- Another series that hasn't gotten much love, and while it's most different, it's by far the shortest and most enjoyable to watch (even for the atmosphere and music); a lot of tricky movement and management is needed to make the run a success!
- Donations include character names.
- Possibly may seem like a lot of running around or some bosses get cheaped out too easily.

Felly and I have also been sort of routing a 1/4 D-ratio run (essentially 100%), and a run of that would be viable with NG+ (cause no one wants to watch 3+ hours of Elyon loop grinding) and add a few hours to estimate.

Thinking about it, I could also do if Claude is not attend is: Final Fantasy Tactics
- System: Playstation
- Time: 5:00:00 any%, 6:00:00 any% no math skill)
- Classic game that pretty fun to see busted apart. No math run is also viable if you don't want to see everything get Flared and Holy.
- Donations include naming characters and possible decide which run.
- Strats can get quite samey if doing a math run.

(I just wish there was a Touhou RPG I could play that wouldn't be like a 20 hour run)

As soon as I get started on my job and everything, I'll start working more on my original playthrough of BoF5. The thing I was doing involved getting a viable file to 1/256, and then NG+ to get to 1/4. It shouldn't take 20 hours to do it, but I was feeling my way through. Been like...6-7 years since I last played XD

Also I was originally trying to route a no dupe run of Wild ARMs 1...but that seems alot more taxing than I realized. Doing a dupe run would probably take less than 10 hours if fully optimized imo.
Thinker & Dreamer
Hey Felly, you plan on attending, cause I could give you BoFV.

Also, would you suggest a basic any%, or some sort of wacky 1/4/100% run with NG+? Any estimate for its time for a marathon run?

I can vouch for Sakegeist - he's new to the SDA community but has done races on SRL; and is the only Terranigma runner I know to have a sub-4 hour time (saw him get his 3:50 PB/WR live).

Felly, Withhelde: I'll wait until I hear something more definitive from the two of you regarding what you'd like, and then I'll update the first post accordingly.

Keypaladin: There are almost always commentary openings (if we have too many commentators for a game, we'll sort that out in a few months, and try to ensure that everyone who wants it gets commentary time).  Added you to the requested games.

As an aside, I added my game suggestion to the list, to go to the reviewers:

Final Fantasy Adventure
- GCN / Gameboy
- Poxnor, 1:30:00
- Info: One of the classic-four non-FF games given an FF name for a North-American Gameboy release.  A Zelda-like game with strong RPG elements (levelling, magic, consumables, etc.).  Crazy, wacky skips abound, and you wind up fighting the end boss at insanely low levels, but with the best equipment possible in the game (that you often wouldn't even find in a casual playthrough).  Downside: The skips result in enemies one-hit KOing you for about 1/3 of the run, necessitating some grinding going into the last third of the run.  The current RTA record is sub-1:00:00, but that OHKO-third of the run is not marathon-time friendly.

Edit: I also have yet to make it through a practice run (though I'm still in the learning process) without dropping about 15 minutes worth of F-bombs.  Will work on that in advance of C4L Tongue

I'd be willing to offer any of the FFL trilogy if there were really demand for them, but I don't really foresee that (?).  FFL and FFL3 were done last C4L and there's been no progress on them since then, and FFL2 (while having some wacky bugs) isn't the best marathon run due to how careful I have to be for the first 10-15 minutes.
