Hey all,

Does anyone have a good way of resetting the Comstock Gate skip in case of failure? I'm looking for some safety strats, and when it works, great, but if I miss a shield jump or I don't get something right on the first attempt coming out of the Downtown Emporia fight, it seems impossible to reset conditions and get it.
Hey Scriv!  Glad to see you are alive.  I have to replay up to Comstock Gate (deleted all my saves trying to save dup), but once I get there I'll try some none gear related strats and see if we can't work out something for you console runners.  Also, did you see Vanger's Emporia skip?  I'm sure it will be really helpful to console runner's w/o gear.  Anywho, I'll let you know how my gearless tests go!
Glad my new method can help some people, since I was having a lot of trouble with that skip myself.

As for the Comstock Gate Skip, I also do the non-HRH strategy. There's still times when I don't get the skip and end up just in front of the gate (probably not suiciding far enough behind the gate). The way I reset it is the same as the one showed in DumDumDugan's video, I simply walk round the tree on the far right, near the stairs. Like in this video :

Then you just try again the suicide through the gate and walking on the railing part.

It's good to see that I'm not the only one still running this game from time to time, even though I gave up competitive speedrunning since I absolutely never get HRH under 3 minutes. Last time I really grinded it, it took me 45 freaking minutes to drop it (and I had all DLC disabled, if that matters). RNGesus doesn't love me at all, so it's all up to speedrunning without HRH.
And of course, since I never practice with HRH, the HoH skip is impossible for me. Is there any visual clue as to when you should suicide ? I never suicide far enough to get the objective to pop up.
Hey Stoic!

Yeah, I still run this game probably once or twice a month because I've done it so many times now it's like riding a bicycle. But I typically just finish the run if I get the Comstock Gate skip, and don't finish and shrug if I don't.

I did a lot of testing the other day VangerF. I'll try to mess w/ the tree a little more, but I wasn't able to get the skip after a purposeful screw up even after messing with that little tree/the load that surrounds it.

I have a pretty reliable safety Downtown fight skip, but I'm very happy grateful that it's been obsoleted. Looking forward to messing with the new over the locked gate method! Well done!
Does anyone have a consistent setup for the HRH Hall of Heroes skip ? I get it like 1 out of 15 times and after grinding HRH and finally getting it quickly, it's so frustrating to restart because of that skip (which is the only one that really requires HRH in the first place).
Did 2 hours of Comstock Gate Skip testing today, and oh man. Not cool.

If I'm doing a full run and I get it, great. I've also done it where I can mess it up to some degree, go to the tree, and reset the parameters and get it.

But today I had a mess up where I respawned in front of the gate, near the corner of the arch way in front of the back of the statue. So I used this a way to try to reset the "fall off Columbia" respawn point.

I went all the way back to the Thoroughfare fight and suicided back into it. Died, went back to Comstock Gate, still respawned in the same place.

I restarted my check point (Thoroughfare fight) and just re-did it. Did Gate Skip correctly. Still got the same respawn point.

Literally turned the game off, turned it back on, loaded up the Thoroughfare fight and did everything correctly again. Same. Respawn. Point.

I don't know how these respawn points work, but so far in my testing, it seems like if you don't get it and you respawn in anywhere near the yellow/black stripe, you're done because I can't get it no matter what at that point.

sorry for my lack of attention, I didn't notice this thread was still alive. I hope you still run the game Smiley

Try this method I do here. I don't use HRH and there's no need to bhop around. The position you jump and shoot is key though.

So...I saw today in FearfulFerret's stream from our good buddy Reallinx that you can get out of the crashed Zeppelin in Emporia without activating the door...and indeed on the most current patch, you can.  I managed to find the vulnerability (you can clip through the door of the zeppelin itself, above Elizabeth's head)  However it seems the whole area outside the balloon has plenty of barriers that prevent you bypassing the Lutece twins.  Skipping their dialogue would be awesome though...Realinx, what areas outside the balloon have you tested?
I recorded commentary of my WR run.

Also made a post on reddit for it.

@Stoic I once got out of it on the side where the ledge is, but that may have been with some noclipping. I don't recall getting anywhere from there either. The pillars next to the Lutece' also can't be climbed properly, so I think there is no way to get around the twins without talking to them.

Something else, I don't know how well I can describe this with words, but I can't record or test anything right now, maybe someone else wants to try it for now. A little thing on Ferrets stream a few days ago made me think. Stoic in chat mentione HoH elevator skip and Ferret responded with getting OoB behind the door might do the trick. I'm not entirely sure he is right but if it's the case then there might be a way.
On the other end of Soldiers Field (area might have a different name but I can't hink of it) where the Merry-go-round is, the blue wall of the gift shop facing away, is sticky (can be climbed with unlocked frames) all the way to the top. One might be able to manouver over the rooftops there and fall behind the elevator.
still waiting on the day that we can somehow get hrh 100% so its actually worth putting time back into the game

Another thing that just came to my mind is the need of a loadless timer for this game, the load screens differ a lot between runners but nobody ever bothered to take loading times off from the real time.

In the current state that's meaningless because the game is almost dead. Just in case people come back to this game in the future, time without loads definitely should be a thing.
I've just started learning this game as something to kind of play around with on the side. I don't have a vod but at the skyrail portion where you have to pull the level to release the cargo I jumped just enough in front of it such that I got some insane acceleration. It probably isn't something reliable to use in a run because you run the risk of getting stuck in the cargo and you guys have probably already found it anyway. Probably only saves like a couple seconds. Also, I had a question. For HRH grinding if you pick up a hat on the first gear are you less likely to pick up another hat at the second gear?

Indeed we have, I avoided getting stuck by jumping off the rail as soon as possible and I don't remember that being too difficult. Getting the speed does seem to be very precise though, I haven't seen many people do it.

I don't think it works that way. You can even get the same gear in both boxes, so they are probably set when you reload and what you pick up before doesn't matter.

Also wanted to say that I liked teliots commentated WR, he explained a lot about the run as well as the game. Nice work!
So even if you pick up the first one the second one could be the same gear? You'd think it'd remove it from the pool at that point.

yea it can be the same gear.  hrh is a harsh mistress
Ah, ok. Speaking of the HRH mistress, she was very kind to me today. I got a new PB of 2:07:54 (http://puu.sh/igBQW/71480cf6a3.png) thanks to almost a 45 minute time save at HRH grind. The run went extremely well. I got factory skip and comstock gate skip first try. I lose some time because I didn't do the comstock door skip because I was afraid I would mess it up and lose the sub 2:10. I also reaaaaallly suck at just about all fights so before I do another run I want to practice those. I don't want to submit this run or anything to a leaderboard because it shouldn't. My computer seems to have trouble recording the runs (the video comes out extremely choppy) so the only real proof I have are those splits and I don't like submitting runs like that. I just need to get my recordings figured out before I get another PB!

Oh boy it took you >45 Minutes to get it at some point? Ouch. Anyway, congrats on PB Smiley

Going back to what I said before, Soldiers Field Elevator skip is definitely a thing. Tough we need to time and see if its faster than watching the cutscene or not. It also requires climbing a (reliable, at least for me) sticky wall >.< I will make a video and edit my post as soon as its up.
Yeah, it was my first run so I didn't bother resetting. I'm gonna be doing some practice today so if you upload a video of the strat I may do some testing with it.

Oh I see. Would be cool if you could give it a shot, as I couldn't do the climb while recording.

Not editing now, instead posting here >_>

Saves about a minute. Note that where I point is actually not a solid surface, just jump like I do and it should work.
Ah ok cool. Yeah, that skips the elevator cutscene with the bee. I'd assume you could skip running and trying out the gondola the first time too? So it should be a decent time save. I'll get right on this to try and confirm that it works and let you know.
Oh yes, I didn't show that because it was my second recording attempt and I forgot to mention it. You do not have to try calling the gondola.

Yep, got it pretty easily. Shame you can't just go back and skip HoH like you mentioned.

EDIT: A rough timing shows it saves about a minute

EDIT 2: What would happen if you jumped to the area, somehow landed on a railing, turned around and jumped into the elevator? Seems like it would be almost impossible to do but I'm just theorizing.

EDIT 3: dammit, I manage to get a setup where I land on the railing but I accidentally ran off while trying to adjust.
I'm using a trainer to noclip, I don't remember where I got it from though. I think the area changing is connected to slates death, so even if we manage to get back it might not work out.

I uploaded a video of me doing the strat to further confirm that it works and to test out my recording capabilies. Thankfully it looks like I can record my runs and upload them now! The strat super easy to do once you know where to walk. Using my method of timing the normal strat takes 2:30 where in the video I get about 1:13. Also, this video shows how far you can go down before sticking to the wall.
