Hey great to see some other interest in this! Cheesy

A few comments real fast.

Why do you spend time killing the 2 guys to the first plasmid? (you kinda spend a lot of time killing the second one)

The door where you have to shock the generator to activate it is based on how soon you shock it. Any reason why you chose to shock the 2 guys first? (to kill them easier maybe?)

The first sister fight you spend a lot of gas/health on doing damage to her. Ill have to do more testing on that fight (been awhile since I did testing, just started playing this again this past week), but the fight is based on how fast you get the sister low, or how fast the sister gets you to almost no health. After watching your vid though I think this fight also may be time based (roughly 30 secs in your vid). There is no need to use health or ammo (maybe.. needs testing). I typically try to go in with a tad above half health (the cutsceen maxes your health if your below half) and then wait out the damage till im almost dead and she runs no matter what.

So far though a great start Cheesy

Also if you havnt seen this, though very rough and I need to start updating it again, here is a link to the walk through route I was working on originally.

I only killed the second, because that guy carries a medipack.

The splicer on the spring-board is not necessary. i shocked him because it didnt waist time and he cant attack you. You need to kill the female splicer near the generator, before you cant shock the generator.

You need to do a certain amount of no matter how much (its timed). Once i got the big sister down to 0hp.

does anyone know any trick in ryan amusements?
Are you playing this on PC or no? Just wondering if the controls are different for when your hacking or not..

After you get the TK plasmid why did you grab the 2  things of eve with TK? (one directly to the left of TK and one next to the propane tank you picked up)

Also as you around to get to the elevator you can just use a barrel to clear the splicers coming out that way you dont have to sidestep.

That health you pick up after you exit the elevator you can grab with TK.

As far as ryan amusements go the best bet would be to fine some way to get that ice melted with something that burns.. I messed around with trying that awhile back (and maybe someone else posted aobut trying similar things) but couldnt figure out a way to do it. Another thing would maybe try to block 1 or 2 doors so you can try skipping the big sister fight and/or not get stuck in the booth while sinclaire is doing his little speech. I tried a few different objects but its kinda tough to get stuff right in the doors. So i kinda gave up on that idea but its still might be possible...?

creamooh said something about being able to glitch some of those elanor cutsceens that make you pause. Something about starting a radio diary right when the cut scene is suppose to start. Ill have to do some testing on that to see if its to hard to do consitently. also somthing i didnt know is you should be able to put in the door combos with the movement keys...

Yes, I ran across this cutscene skip when playing through the game for the first time and mentioned it to drwhooo during his stream. Did not know it wasn't already known seeing how well abused the radio skips were in 1.

I was going to play a diary I had picked up and accidently did so the exact same moment one of the Eleanor cutscenes started (using the play latest diary key). The diary overwrote the cutscene completely and I was free to move. I haven't tested this further if it was just that place or if it works everywhere, but I'm going to try and see if I can replicate it and get it on video.

edit: Alright, it seems this trick only has the potential to end cutscenes where the audio is the only thing delaying you from doing certain things. This means that those cutscenes where you can still move around while eleanor is talking can be skipped. The first cutscene right before the plasmid is one of those, you can end it early and be able to grab the plasmid earlier by just triggering a diary when the cutscene is running. This trick does unfortunately not skip the cutscenes when there is also a video preventing your movement.
The cutscenes with the freezing video components seem to also consist of a free movement audio cutscene, but as they play at the same time, the video part will still freeze you. To understand what the hey I am talking about, you can test the cutscene right before the TK-plasmid for instance. If you open the map just as the cutscene starts, you'll be stuck on the map screen unable to do anything with the video playing in the background but without audio (map spam when approaching and you'll get it easily). After the video part ends and you exit the map screen, the audio part of the cutscene will start but from the beginning. This time you are able to move and thus can skip it by triggering a diary. Since the video portion still freezes you for the full duration of the cutscene, this won't save any time.
Ive been updating/editing/fixing typos on my original speedrun walkthrough. Feel free to help fix it up Tongue

At this point I am having a lot of trouble with Wales and the Big Daddies (the ones you have to kill in Dionysus Park for the 3 little sisters). Any suggestion on how better to handle the fights?

Also are the weapon upgrades (power to the people stations) worth taking the time to get? So far I have been grabbing the drill upgrades. Once I am comfortable with the first half of the game (read - up to the end of Dionysus Park) I will start testing how easy using the Drill Specialist plasmid would be.

If I remember right, there aren't really many things hard to kill after Dionysus Park. The Alpha series go down pretty easy just drilling them to death. I think there may be 1 or 2 brutes you have to kill near the end but you will have the Big Sister plasmid and she will just destroy everything. The fight before you turn into a little sister might be tricky. Ill have to do that one again. I can't remember if I just drilled them to death or not.

The skip for the first plasmid will be nice, if it works out well. Maybe I'll have to try more random things to see if there is a way to skip the freeze on the ones with video.

Something I totally forgot about, and this might take a bit of testing, is death warping. There are a TON of vita-chambers around so this might have a very limited use. Whenever I get around to it, I'll check out Pauper's Drop and see if there would be a way to death warp back to the train after you talk to the old lady. Also it might be useful in Dionysus Park after you collect that last little sister.

ok first segment of the amusement park is done i played till the point where you pick up the sports boost.

I can pull it off in the same spot as that video - not consistent but it is repeatable - and can kinda do it in pauper's drop too using a milk crate (didn't seem to go as high as the other spot but i would bet i'm just messing it up, or else you can probably do it properly off a different object). If there was any confusion as to how to pull it off, basically all you do is stand on the object and pick it up with telekinesis. Dunno how exactly it works, sometimes you get thrown up into the air and most of the time you don't. How much has this glitch been looked into?

Also the game apparently infinitely spawns alpha big daddies up in that room in the video, got knocked right out as soon as i managed to get in. You don't even need to be in the room to see/attack them (get up on the second floor and use the spear gun) which makes me wonder whether you can kill the first alpha before triggering it. Can't try it since I have no save there.

i think i will have to spend some on this part to figure out whats possible or not.

btw i made some progress. i finished another segment for level 3, which was basically just protecting the little sister while she was harvesting the first corpse. The next segment will be similar Smiley

Edit: another segment is done. 2 left and im done with ryan amusements
Hey great to hear your still working on this. The playthroughs i did before though i really didnt find any major skips or anything so hopefully youll have some better luck. Cheesy Cant wait to see the new segments. Maybe ill make a few more runs of this casually and see what minor things could be helped or whatnot.

Quote from drwhooo:

Thats the problem every trick, which worked in Bioshock doesnt work in Bioshock 2.

Audio message skipping works only with diaries you picked up. All the messages from sinclair or Lamb are not skip able. You have to hear certain messages otherwise the next door wont open.
Fast shooting isnt possible anymore, because now you cant switch between weapons and plasmids. Both are equipped at the same time. This might a make the controls on the consoles easier, but on the PC the controls are now unnecessary complicated.
Death warping doesnt work as well as in the first one, since there are more vita chambers.
Door skips as in medical Pavilion arent possible because the doors are thicker.
Skipping script sequences has been made impossible because of the level design. Ryan amusements is a good example for this.

I didnt test the physics exploits because there was no point where i could try it. Now im at praupers drop and there are many points where i could do this.

Anyway Ryan Amusements is done. I did it in 12:10. I used 7 segments. The longest one was 2:48 long and the shortest one stopped at 0:58.

First i went for the ticket. At the Power to the People machine, i chose the drill damage update, mainly because the rivet gun is nearly useless (similar to the pistol in the first one). The hacking was fairly easy. Then i picked up the ticket and the eve hypo. There is only one other chance to pick up the mg, but the first one is easier so i used that one.
Its a speedrun so the sportboost tonic is almost required. I skipped the waste on the floor with a jump on the railing (nothing special, but it looks cool)
At the big daddy room i hacked the security bot, because it distracts the big daddy, which makes it easier for me because i take less damage and i can concentrate on damaging him. When you took out the big daddy, you had to listen to sinclairs audio message otherwise you cant continue, like i explained earlier this is a really annoying point.
After that i had to harvest the splicer. A t first one i used several trap rivets and of course the drill, because they mostly go melee. At second splicer i used the turret. I rescued the little sister because you only need to buy incinerate and no other plasmids.
I used the second Power to the People station for a MG damage update. I spend all adam on the plasmid, a health upgrade and the health to eve updrage (more eve with the use of bandages and medikits).
Finally the big sister fight. The big sisters scripts are bound to that main room, so when you leave the room they arent working anymore. The big sister just attacks you and tries to dodge your attacks, but doesnt jump around. Then you need to listen to sinclair again, to get back into the train station again. At last a script sequence in the booth and the level is done.

Part 2:

The video which is attached to this post is a funny thing you can do with the splicers!

Great level. Always interested with your progress on this. Hope you can crack the TK Jump on Paupers Drop.
Looks really good. I guess the only thing i can really think of is maybe using trip rivets on the big daddy too as your walking up, but the fight went really well anyway. Big Sis fight was good as well. There was 1 little point where you were walking into the wall in the first vid, but not a huge deal.

Something I always meant to check but forgot/never got around to was to see if harvesting a little sister would be faster then saving her. I guess it even if it does overall it would save maybe 1 or 2 seconds. (though maybe you did test this Cheesy )

Something to test too (if you really want to spend more time on already completed segments) is using TK to drop something in the door before activating the train or possibly skipping the Big Sis fight if you could block the other door. Being able to exit the room and get on the train earlier would be nice. I did try to do some testing of that idea long ago with suitcases and i think a trashcan, but i forgot how to drop things with TK instead of throwing them (now that i remember it might be a little easier to place items lol).

Something I noticed at the beginning of the second vid you have a diary running (from a pervious save, but still a scripted diary) of him saying stuff about going to the maint. room or whatever. As your walking along you activate a world sound (from a display on the ride) and it interrupts the diary. Maybe something to keep in mind/test some to see if something like that could be used elsewhere to skip a diary you have to wait for.

Anyway if i get some more time and interest Ill see what I can find, if anything, that you might have missed in Ryan's and Pauper's Drop. One note on pauper's is that when you activate the brute to put the wreckage in the way, you can pass through there from above to below, but you need falling speed (coming from above you would have to noclip/ghost there). So i guess if you could figure out a reliable way to pressure jump up you could skip the camera and the drill charge, BUT the drill charge I think is a very useful movement tool. You could still try to find a way to pressure jump after you get the drill dash though, which would save 45-60 seconds running up instead.

so ill stop now but that should get you somewhere, feel free to bounce ideas or whatever

I already test that. I doesnt work. Its the same at every door. you drop something, walk a few steps away and suddenly a 'small breeze' push the thing away. I attached a video, showing this effect.

I tired breaking them with saving but you still have to finish listen to them.

you also cant death warp at ryans. You will get back to the last vita chamber you passed and not the closest one

pressure jumps are possible. just lay a trashcan on the ground jump on it, look down and jump. You will get pushed. Now i just have to find a way to make it as strong as in Arcadia. Smiley

dunno, if people have already found this.  but i was casually playing through the game on xbox360, and i ran into a glitch where every radio transmission or audio diary immediately ended, as in the picture of the speaker would show up in the lower right corner (with its animation)and then a split second later disappear (again with its animation).  i'm not quite sure how to replicate it, and honestly i didn't really try to, but as i imagine it could significantly speed up speed running, i'll try to explain what i think happened as best i can.

basically i picked up an audio diary and was holding a to play it (mark meltzer-what happened to the people on the atlantic express level) as i was walking over the trigger to get to the area that unlocks after you use telekinesis to free the gears.  both the audio diary and the scripted sophia lamb radio transmission tried to play at the same time and then suddenly i got no radio or audio diary transmissions period, even after reloading, had to turn the xbox off and on to get them to work again.

pretty freak glitch, dunno if it can be replicated (likely requires super perfect timing), and if it can it will create hell for segmenting considering how it resets likely forcing single-segment runs, but i figure if anyone's serious about running the game, this glitch could be a major time-saver (and if you can get it to work, it might also be worth testing on bioshock 1).  but figured i might as well see if anyone else experienced this.
edit: seems as if this is very similar to the glitch moooh discovered, so maybe people have experience with this, and it just makes triggers not happen instead of skipping them?  meh.

thinking on the ice in ryan's amusements i wonder if triggering the big sister is what triggers it becoming meltable.

the level are extremely scripted, so you start the progress at a certain point. in this case its when you pick up incinerate, when you go back into the main room with the turret, you trigger lambs speech. When you proceed further you trigger the door sequence, the big sister and so on.

Anyway the thing you found could be a good time saver. it might be worth trying, even though it sounds pretty similar to the diary skip from the first one.

not quite.  it doesn't involve the pause menu, it's playing the already queued audio diary at the exact start of a radio transmission and then glitching all broadcasts (though potentially this may screw up triggers, some testing would likely need to be done if it's advantageous to skip anything, which it may not be).  moooh mentioned a similar glitch with the eleanor cutscenes.  but i wonder if what i'm talking about is specific to console versions of bioshock 2.

also per sda's rules, is it possible to go for the best/worst ending without interacting with every little sister, as the choice ending would add a couple minutes with the extra button press.
I'm the keeper of Time.
How many sisters are supposed to be collected on this run? There's the mandatory intro Sister and the 3 with Stan Poole, are any others planning on being collected for Adam/upgrades?

Hey, uh, not sure if I should be necroposting a thread this old, but I'd just like to mention that I've done testing on the glitch that wfp discovered and managed to replicate it several times. Once done, the glitch will skip all radio messages allowing the player to progress much more quickly in several parts of the game. It's simply a matter of timing the start of an audio diary by holding the a button exactly with a scripted radio message. If done correctly, all future radio messages will start and end immediately. I first did it in the same area that wfp first discovered it and used it to drastically speed up my departure on the train from the Atlantic Express station (since I didnt have to wait for Tenenbaum and Sinclair to finish talking). Then I managed to pull it off 3 times more, once in Ryan Amusements with the Sinclair dialogue after getting the entry ticket, before triggering the pump switch (and the Sofia Lamb radio message) in Siren's Alley, and again with a Sinclair dialogue in Dionysus Park.

I didn't test it any further than that, but I've concluded that the glitch can be done with almost any radio message trigger, and will persist until the next area loads or until you restart the console (didn't actually test this though). My tests were all on the XBOX 360 version, so no idea if it works for others. It also didn't take me more than about 10 times (often even less) for me to get the timing right each time, so it's definitely not quite as frame perfect as wfp suspected it was. Even after reloading a save, the dialogue still remains glitched so this can indeed work for segmenting provided you are ok with leaving the system on for extended periods of time. Also not sure if this screws up any triggers, but the game seemed to progress normally up to Dionysus Park at the very least. It's likely because the dialogue still technically happens despite being cut off right away.

Well that's all the research I put into it for now. The way I see it, this glitch can be a great asset to speeding up parts of the game considerably. I'm looking into giving this game a shot, and have prepared a tentative checklist of items/upgrades that I'll probably need after watching through a single segment run of this game on youtube. If anyone would like to see my checklist, let me know. I haven't come up with a route plan yet though; I need to play through a few more times.

I hope that someone out there still cares about this thread. Hope this info helps!
