Alright, probably not where this goes, but this is THE thread so... Registration. Supposed to be free, even if your run was waitlisted for the final schedule, which mine was. Now, when I saw that my run was waitlisted I didn't see that a whole bunch of other runs were waitlisted, but I did see the the vod linked to my run was incorrect, so I figured that was why and I changed it to correct that issue. This caused my run to go from waitlist to pending. Now registration opens and I wanted to register as soon as possible just in case. Imagine my surprise when I see that I owe the $40 fee. I imagine this was an just an oversight on the websites end of things, but as my run was waitlisted, (and I'm still pretty optimistic that it might end up in the marathon proper) I don't feel that I am obligated to pay this. I'm also just not going to pay it, but I'm trying to be polite here. Anyway, what is the most prudent solution to this predicament I find myself in?
Just asking for clarification, since registration is now open is the email system completely scrapped for free registration or are runners are still awaiting for email confirmation to get free registration?

Also as one of the runners who submitted in Mario Kart 8 I heard that the runner will be selected by next week, but is the selection going to be a little faster because runners only have a week to register? Or what will happen if a runner isn't selected by then? I would like to know this ASAP because I'm traveling from Australia to the event.

Dapper as fuck.
I got the email.  I think the system knows if you're free or not?  I registered before I got the email and it was free for me.

Also if you're in the bracket for free registration you might as well just register, if you have to back out it's not like you're paying for registration and going to be out any money waiting on a refund.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
CavemanDCJ: that is actually functioning normally. If Mike approves your run again to waitlist, it'll be changed to free.

AeonFrodo: Runners should have received their emails by now. The email does not do anything special, it is simply a notice informing runners about registration.

Finally, yeah, if you're eligible to be in the event by any means, you should register, because you lose nothing by doing so. If we end up not using your run, you get a free registration out of the deal. Mike's already made some headway this week on the races, but there's still a lot for him to go over.
Thanks for sorting all of this out guys. I will be sure to ask about my runs being waitlisted/rejected when there's less traffic going through and things are less crazy (aka after AGDQ). My waitlisted runs will be practiced and ready to go if I am chosen for anything Smiley Thank you staff and committee for all that you do. Looking forward to the volunteer thread!

If anybody gets a chance, a reason for the Doom 3 rejection would be much appreciated. I suspect it's because of our usage of the mod, and if so it would be good to know to aim for solo instead next time, or not at all if it was because of the game itself.

Throwing the Doom 3 rejection reason out there one last time hoping for a bite. No salt, I promise, because we are still running Alien Swarm! But we really want to know if Doom 3 can be improved upon in any way to have a better chance at future events. Even a "it wasn't a good fit this time" is very useful since that says to submit it in the same way again.

Quote from JoshButro:
This seems like a huge disconnect. People that didn't make it, can't even get feedback on why as it has been said numerous times. People won't be able to improve or be able to compete for a space in future GDQs. As soon as the games list was published, providing feedback on rejected runs that were asked about weeks ago, went out the window in favor of accepted, and waitlisted runs. It seems there should be a Rejected thread or something, so people can get feedback, because answers like "it didnt fit this year" or "your VoD had a swear word" doesnt really help anyone. Some people have asked multiple times, with zero response.

I disagree that it doesn't help anyone, it is actually exactly what I am looking for in our unusual Doom 3 submission. We have to know either way to get a direction here. As I mentioned previously, hopefully the reject reason system can be looked at and expanded upon in the future, being handled in a queue type of system or something where there is no chance in glancing over a messy thread and missing questions. There definitely needs to be something more purpose-built for it.

I got the email and registered. Thanks again for the long nights working on this stuff.
Can I please get a response?

I am the only runner to have submitted a Portal run of the Glitchless category. It was set to "progress" at the time of the previous "final" list. After that, it was changed to "Waitlist".

Since there's no question as to whether or not my run will be a race (as I'm the only one that has submitted), can someone tell me what I'm waiting on and why it was switched from Progress to Waitlist after the final list was done? Because flights from Sweden ain't cheap and they ain't getting cheaper (and I won't be attending if I'm not running).

What if my availability for AGDQ changed between when game submission closed and now? I had submitted Mario Kart 64 and listed the available dates as the entire week. It got accepted as bonus. Since then, I've been told I can only take 1 weekend of that week off, meaning I can either choose to be there Saturday Jan 2 - Friday Jan 8, or Monday Jan 4 - Sunday Jan 10. Since there is no schedule yet, this still makes it hard to plan, since with flight times I might not be there on the 8th or the 4th (whichever weekend I pick). The reason I ask is because on the registration page, it asks which days we will be at the event. Is this simply to know how many badges you have each day at the event, or does this tie into availability at all?

Because my choices are hope it gets in that Tuesday - Thursday window, or have this week to register for the free entry and hope I pick the right weekend when I book the biggest expense of the trip, my flight.

In addition, any idea when the schedule will be up so this whole thing wouldn't be an issue?

Edit: Saw on the GDQ site that I can change availability, should I just go ahead and do that or will that mess up the schedule at this point?
I'm in a similar situation with Almo, I can attempt to change my availability depending on the schedule, but for the time being I've set it to when I think will be attending.
Hypothetically speaking, how likely is it that if someone drops out, Mega Man ZX Advent will be need? Asking because I need to if selling out will be worth the time.

Hi! Since Brother_Main dropped out for Axiom Verge and I'm waitlisted. Does that mean I will be the one running it? A confirmation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi GVirus,

That's strange, Vulajin pointed this out to me yesterday, and I checked, and thought the runs were already changed.  It's since been fixed.  Thanks!

Sumi thank you so much for the update! You just made my day! Also, tell Vulajin I said "Hi, I'm GVirus!"

Yes, modify your availability. Pick a date and use it.

Also applies to Fog.

There is no way to answer that. Anything on the waitlist (that isn't race/runner selection pending) is subject to be picked at anytime up to, and even during the event. That's basically the point of waitlist. Certain games may be more likely depending on what drops have been made (what block is it, what setup does the game require, etc), so there's no way to tell you.

If you absolutely are not going to AGDQ unless you get a run, then you should probably just withdraw after the schedule is released. The majority of runners usually go regardless of whether they're accepted or rejected, so that is why the waitlist exists.

Ok, went ahead and did that from the 4th to the 9th, since I think we can fly in late on Sunday the 3rd. Thanks so much!

Also, my run is in as bonus, but the person I'm doing co-op with had not given his own submission of the game. He's pretty new and doesn't really know about SDA so he doesn't keep up and relies on me to relay him information about stuff since I know him irl, and that was my bad on not telling him to submit himself. Is there any way he could still get the free discount, or at least set aside 1 extra runner badge in place of a attendee badge for him? Both of these are not a huge deal, I just want to see if there's something that could be arranged. Thank you.

There wouldn't happen to be an ETA on that "if" would there? The decision of the runs status was already made, I can't imagine it will be too difficult to remember that and fix my error.
Do we have an estimate of when is the schedule is supposed to be done?  I want to announce my participation to my friends, but they're gonna want to know when I'll be running.  Also, I would rather not miss more work than I have to, so I need to know when I can book the flight for...
MrGrunz is a guay
Should we still bother editing submissions for waitlisted runs?  For my master quest all dungeons and dungeon skulltulas submission, a new trick and new routing made possible by the trick saves over 10 minutes and I have just improved by PB by that amount, with several more minutes still to be saved and my estimate has no reason to be above 3:10-3:15.  It looks like this would also affect my all dungeons submission, and I'm not sure if this change is notable to you.
I don't think 10 minutes is worth changing the PB for since it won't affect scheduling that much. If you get it to something more like 30 minutes, it may be worth changing.
It was said that the runners for race submissions was going to be drafted wednesday night at latest 2 weeks ago, my game(Super Mario World 96 Exits) are still in progress for 6 runners in the same category, any information regarding this?

I'm in the same boat. Although I already announced my participation after it was said that the list was final. But then it was not final. And now I'm re-awaiting re-confirmation.

Alright, so it has been a week since my run has been pending. This is concerning to me because runners and potential runners are supposed to register within the first week the "final" schedule is posted. I have registered, but have not payed the balance. Does that still count as being registered for a potential runner? Also, what is taking so long? I feel like I have waited enough to know what my travel plans are looking like.

I'm fully aware and I'm not going to force people to pay just because of that. We moved things over to the committee again last night and they are working on the schedule now. They won't have a great deal of time until the weekend however.

That said, all pending runs have been taken care of today and you'll need to re-register now.
Is anybody able to explain the situation with Star Fox 64? Hopefully a race is in order.
