so pro u don't even know
Sorry, I totally forgot to post this, but attached are the internet tests I did from onsite at both hotels. Please note my laptop has a crappy wireless card, and Uyama was getting a much better speed on his wireless from his phone.

Fucking Weeaboo
Whle the speed difference for upload isn't much, the difference in PING is HUGE. Should be much less issue with the lower PINGs at Crowne.
Yea that's really strange that the ping rates are so different. Also strange that the distance is different when the hotels are like what, a couple of miles apart?

I'd be going from South Jersey. Probably from Atlantic City.

Where in South Jersey? I'm in Gloucester County and thinking about going.

The ping rates: I'm not sure what the difference is. The hotels are only about 3.5 miles apart.

Just FYI, the Crowne sent me a contract yesterday and I'm currently asking them questions and negotiating with them about it. The reservation link and number will be available soon.
Fucking Weeaboo
Ping basically has to deal with the time it takes to send a basic signal back and forth. The name is derived from table tennis (if you run the command in DOS, it actually uses both ping for going out and pong for the reply). The lower the number, the faster and stronger the signal is. It's more important for gaming, since higher ping = higher response times, but it does matter for other things as well.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
It honestly doesn't matter since we're going with Crowne anyway. But a ping that high is unusual, especially with that speed. Usually you only see pings that high when there's packet loss, but that should also affect the overall bandwidth.

Ping has nothing to do with signal strength. All it means is that it is faster for a signal to travel to its destination, which is important when a signal must reach its destination quickly after happening (such as events).
It has little impact on video uploading since such streams are pipelined anyway.
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
It wouldn't affect the stream if that's all it was, but if it was indicating packet loss, that WOULD affect the stream (a lot, badly).

Right. If there is packet loss, then would affect the stream (possibly a lot), but I don't think high ping would affect it that much.
(High ping != extreme ping latency such as ping timeout of several seconds.)
Balls jerky
So are we going to have  Pong match at AGDQ or what? I'll bring my 2600, Video Olympics, and some paddle controllers. Epic Pong match for bonus stream.

Okay, I have signed the sleeping room contract with the Crowne. If you want to reserve a room ASAP, go here.

Some notes:

The rooms are actually $82 a night (with 12% tax)! Bonus! I'm 99% sure the limit is 4 people per room, but having 5 people per room wouldn't even save much money, plus it would be really crowded with the Queen-size double beds.

I have not signed the banquets/conference room part of the contract, so I don't have the conference room fee 100% figured out yet, but I think it's going to range from 50-70 dollars per person.

Formalized registration on the forum/a separate website isn't ready yet, but we'll have something up next month (September).
Will a thread with Hotel Room Partner Seeker be up soon?

Yeah expect a thread in a week or two.

Also about the United Airlines deal, I'm going to work on it after Labor Day. If you're waiting for said deal, then it'll be at least a week before something is set up.
Anyone have an idea of when ticket prices start to go up?

I'd actually wait a bit on airline tickets. Based upon trips I've taken in past years, I expect optimal ticket prices to be around late October/early November. Find your favorite airline and scope prices. Be sure to watch for baggage fees on certain airlines.
Waiting hurts my soul...

The rates are the same with or without the code for me. I used the link and selected the dates, but I get the following rate:

Did you pick Jan 5th - Jan 7th? I tried to replicate your issue but couldn't. What browser are you using, and did you use Mike's link?

...wait a sec. Look at the bottom of the image. "Tax: 9% per night not included in rate effective 3 January, 2014 thru 7 January, 2014"

Well there's your problem. You selected the wrong initial date. Fix it to at least the 4th and you'll be fine.

I was wondering How much money would one person have to bring to attend this marathon and stay at hotel+plus food money
Sounds like Maverick talk to me.
How about cheap places to eat around Cronwe Plaza?

Well the hotel prices you can check for yourself using the link above in Mike's post. Just divide it by however many people you wish to share the room with (up to 4 in a room). As for food, to be safe, generally recommended to save up around $25/day. It doesn't mean you have to spend that much, but it's always nice to have that buffer. The hotel will be providing us with free breakfast. We may also get meals from PCF occasionally during the marathon, but I haven't heard about that lately, I'll ask Mike.

There's stuff as cheap as Taco Bell and Wendys literally in the same lot. There's also a grocery store about 2 blocks down the road, and SEVERAL other restaurants within less than a mile walking distance. There will be refrigerators in each room and a "public" microwave in one of the conference rooms. Basically, you can be as cheap as you want. This is one of the reasons we chose this hotel over the Holiday Inn.

Well, I was planning on coming early. Seems their system isn't robust enough to calculate for early arrivals. Looks like I'll need to make two reservations. The 4th works to get the discount.

Edit: Actually, booking the night of the 4th to the 5th without the code is $71/night right now in case anyone is interested. From the 5th on is really the only time when the group rate saves money.

Is there any reason? No one is going to be there on the third. Everyone arrives on the fourth, and that's when we begin setup. You won't miss anything by arriving on the fourth.

You can book the hotel right now. I have no idea how much that $500 will get you, it depends on how you feel like splitting up the room. If you just mean food and whatever, then yes absolutely.

Basically, sharing rooms is entirely upon you to figure out. We'll be making a thread shortly to help people find rooms with each other, but otherwise we don't have any say in it. You (or one of the others you're sharing with) books the room, marks the number of people in the room, and then you will split the payment of that room at the hotel at the desk.

Edit: Also talked to Mike, he said we're still too early in the process to figure out PCF food and other logistics. Note that you do NOT have to book your room /right now/, we just got the hotel link the other day. There is no rush, we don't even have the official marathon registration ready yet.
