1. Ape Escape any%. [estimate: ~55:00]
Really well-received game from last year, a personal favorite of mine. If Ihavenoname can make it out, I'd be more than willing to make it a race, although I haven't exactly checked with him on this. Either way, it would be awesome to revisit this game. I am the record holder and am more than confident in my ability to sub the Skateman from last year even on a bad run (not to sound pretentious, just that the "not living up to last year's expectations" principle is extremely unrealistic).

If last-ditch-effort to run AE1 is a race I'm totally on board with this Tongue  (I've gotten very competitive times in races, on slower hardware)

I respect the decisions made on my suggestions-they're all pretty much what I expected anyways, but it couldn't hurt to try.  No infinite jump Ape Escape is a very different run from standard any%, while not being much longer, which is why I had mentioned it.  Super Mario 63 is also very well developed and deep for a flash game-maybe some other marathon Wink

Chocobo Dungeon 2: It sounds like this is a roguelike? Anyway, this is a big time investment for an off-shoot of a Final Fantasy game that isn't well-known.

I wanted to edit my post earlier but was unable to do so due to me not signing in the first time.

Anyways, Chocobo Dungeon 2 goes by quite a different style than the main series it's derived from while still being an RPG. Also, the time investment issue was something I foresaw and I was wondering if this would be a good alternative:

There's more categories ran than full game for Chocobo Dungeon 2. A more friendly category which shows off everything the game has to offer in a short amount of time is Beat Skullhammer. The estimate is 20 minutes and a good donation incentive could be for the game to be finished in bonus stream or at a different time (trust me, if you ever watch gameplay videos of this game you'll understand that this is the type of game that, although initially isn't known as much as say FF,  will be hyped over enormously after people see what it is. If you want some videos of it I can easily give some to you. This is a different style of RPG than most which are usually run at GDQ's and the 20 minute category with the donation incentive would allow the possibility of the time investment if people like it enough without taking more than a 20 minute hit if the incentive isn't met.

As for Yu-Gi-Oh, I somewhat agree but the World Tournament category estimate is extremely safe and regardless of RNG will not be surpassed. WT category features fairly safe strategies.

Thanks Mike!
I play games, wanna fight about it?
Now's my time to shine! Here's what I got for you.

Twitch page: www.twitch.tv/vega4993

1. Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage(SNES complete story) [Estimate 21:00] - My first world record and also the one that got me hooked on speedrunning. My Record currently is 18:51 and it was what stopped the great Funkdoc from trying to gain the record back. It requires a lot of skill and luck, perfect for AGDQ.

2. Devil May Cry(PS2 Normal Any %)  [Estimate 58:00] - A popular game on it's own, Devil May Cry is a pleasure to speedrun for anyone. Most tricks require pure skill, and I know AGDQ viewers and runners would appreciate the skills shown. My world record is 54:24, a huge improvement from the previous WR holder.

3. Spider-Man(PSX Easy Any%) [Estimate 45:00] - A recent world record I took from Bonesaw577. I use a couple of new tricks not used by him to ensure a solid run. The current record is 40:39, 49 seconds improved off the Bonesaw run. You will not regret having this great game.

4. Time Crisis 3(PS2 Very Hard Compete story) [Estimate 29:00] - A light gun game? with "Time" in it? what could be a more thrilling rail shooter for people? I absolutely love running this game as many of my tricks are very original and took much experimentation. Current record held by me is 26:10. It's an amazing pitch.

5. Time Crisis(PSX Normal Story) [Estimate 18:00] - Why not the original? A great blast from the past rail shooter from start to finish. Most tricks rely on my reflexes and fast trigger finger so I'm sure it would be entertaining to show. I won't blame you for axing this one, but in my opinion, great pitch.

I think a good donation incentive for Spider-Man(PSX) would be a race with Bonesaw577 if he agrees to be up for the challenge. Also to make things interesting, the loser would have to "change" but instead of me putting it out there for all to see, please do PM me and I'll gladly tell you my idea so we can keep it a surprise, you won't regret it.

1. Alice in Wonderland (GBC) {Any%} [ Estimate 00:40:00] - my current PB (and the WR) is 00:29:14.44  at max 35 minutes some runs. donation incentives: i am willing dress up and run the game AS ALICE, wig and all. this game is pretty cool to watch with its AMAZING music, top notch platforming , and wacky antics.

also heres a video of the run just turn down the sound cause twitch recorded it too high

Barkley Shut up and Jam: Gaiden: omg I love this game! This game is so funky that it might be worth considering for a marathon. Adding it to the list, and what are the differences between any% and 100%

Any% is all about just fighting the standard bosses, though the reason it's avoided for marathons is because the RNG is too harsh. Which unfortunately leads to Any% not being safe to run even with save states in-game. 100% you collect major items, fight every boss from Kobe, Dikembe, Dr.Allard, and etc. Also have to complete Chup mines and B-Ball Dimension which pretty much shows all the game except Doom temple. Safer run with the exception of Dikembe being risky. Plenty of donation incentives, but that's for another discussion. Any% average estimate is about 1:00:00, and 100% is about 1:30:00.
1. Marathon: Durandal (Xbox 360) {kindergarten difficulty} [Estimate 45:00] - From bungie's predecessor series to Halo, this game invovlves running and gunning at breakneck speed requiring very tight timing and execution. There's a lot of room for explanation, discourse, and commentary because a lot of what is being done isn't immediatly obvious due to either the esoteric nature of the game's objectives and/or the rapidity with which it is done.
Quote from mikwuyma:
ilikebeingsmart: Puzzle games generally just don't get hype at marathons. We've tried them multiple times (kirby's avalanche, tetris attack, and dr. mario 64), but the reactions have been middling at best. :-/

I understand where you're coming from.  No objections or hard feelings here, just thought I'd throw it out there anyway.  I'm coming regardless, so I'll see you in January.

1. Eternal Daughter (100%) [1:10:00] - Very difficult metroidvania PC game; fun to watch: constant glitch abuse; great music. Donation incentives: orchestrated soundtrack; not skipping text for story; fighting skipped bosses. If Tjp7154 goes, he could commentate or we could race. My WR:
King of the Choads
I would just like to throw in some hype for FootBigMike to run Bomberman 64 100%. The dude has put in some MAJOR work on the game, and the run is an absolute treasure.

I have searched for an appropriate topic and come up empty, and Since I am not a fan of creating threads that beg no response in the traditional forum fashion I will post it here.

Anyway, I created my account because I would like to let anyone who is interested know that I would like to lend my 3D printing services to AGDQ2014, free of charge of course, to create donation prizes. I am willing to print up to 1KG of filament(that makes a LOT of stuff) for the marathon. I have included a couple of pictures of my (unfinished) works. The models I have pictured are all in the public domain and you will be free to use them barring nintendo's intervention. I am also capable of creating custom works. I will be sanding the models (more) and possibly treating them with an acetone vapor bath before I paint them to produce a finished product. I am posting this here, and now, to give ample time for you guys to make a decision if you want them or not. It will take about a month to get 1KG worth of models printed, sanded, and painted. Please forgive my early post I was informed that the correct thread has not yet been opened. I will need some time to get these things ready. 1KG will produce 50+ 4" x 2" x 0.5" hylian crests like the one pictured below.

Hylian Crest

Zerg Symbol

Again these pieces haven't been sanded, or painted so they are in an unifinished state. Feel free to contact me via a reply, private message or email at frozensoda@gmail.com

Thanks
There will be a topic at a later date that talks about AGDQ 14 prizes, you can post in there when the time comes. Nice looking pieces though Smiley .
Not a walrus
Yeah, prize thread will come later. Also in the future you should thumbnail huge pictures like that.
I apologize for any breach of forum etiquette. I will patiently await the appropriate thread. Thanks.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
Lenophis: Already talked about it on IRC, no to all those games.

MaturedSinner: Fluidity is too obscure.

Greenk4: Gungrave isn't the most well-known game, and it's pretty repetitive to boot.

Lukehhhh: Hmmm, if there was one run we did of Luigi's Mansion, that would be the one. It's a pretty entertaining category. I'll slot it as a bonus game.

Dark: DKC2 any% has already been offered and it seems to be the more popular category, and we're working under some time constraints so I'd rather keep it at any%. Also, Reflected is the WR holder (unless if that changed recently).

Zallard1:

Super Punch Out: Considering how optimized this game has become it's worth considering having it again.

Doc Louis: Maybe as a donation incentive?

Punch-Out Wii: Is that including Title Defense fights?

Star Fox 64: This technically wouldn't be a speedrun, but it's obvious this game has a lot of fans, and it's definitely worth considering this, adding it to the list.

Splatterhouse: I like this game, but I'm not entirely sold on it being great for a marathon. Arcade games haven't done great in the past, going with no.

Stivitybobo: Two things about BK.

1. 100% was done last AGDQ and it looks like most of the improvements have come from a lot of smaller optimizations rather than large tricks.

2. It looks like some of the skips from any% are now possible real-time. I think this category would be a better choice because it would be more variety, new skips, and time is going to be pressed on the schedule.

Andre:

Super Meat Boy: Hmmm, I know you're really good at this. We'll have to sort it out

Amnesia: What does 100% involve?

Lost Kingdom 2: I think I rejected this before, and yeah, it's too obscure.

Tales of Symphonia: Definitely one of the more popular rpgs out there, but at the same time it's quite long with few donation incentives.

Womps:

Neugier: I have never heard of this game and it doesn't strike me as being marathon material.

Super Mario Kart: KVD offered this and he's the best at the game. Going with no.

Binding of Isaac: The reception for this game wasn't too hot at the last AGDQ so I'm gonna take a pass.

Jet Set Radio HD: Done last year and I think the sequel should be considered if we consider something.

sinister:

MTPO: It was a massive hit 2013, and if you could get even farther blinfolded I think it would be a hit again. Added

Chip 'n Dale: Yeah this could be a race. Added.

Ninja Gaiden pacifist: Maybe? We'll talk about it sometime.

Ninja Gaiden II: I think the low%/pacifist donation incentives are a better idea.

Bart vs. the Space Mutants: I knew all my bad games would convert you to the dark side muwahahaha. Added.

Striker: I think this would be best handled as a donation war between the three games. There definitely seems to be interest in the snes star wars games, but I'm gonna be pressed for space.

RWhiteGoose: Good to see some more people from the Elite community!

Goldeneye 007: I'll have to discuss this with you and BassBoost for which category we'll do.

Mario Golf: This is one of the side mario titles and doesn't strike me as the greatest watch or the most exciting run. No.

Perfect Dark: This game has been long overdue for a marathon, adding it to the list.

prs:

DKC: 7% as a donation incentive might be worth consdering, I'll have to ask the other runners.

Jungle Book: Already rejected it earlier.

Caleb Hart:

MGS: Twin Snakes: With all of the new glitches and tech in the original MGS I feel like this game is the weaker option.

Turok: Ehhh this is a very foggy game and I don't feel like it's aged very well.

MMX: You are indeed good as fuck at it. Added

MMX2: I know you're good about practicing so I'll add you on the list for now. Just keep me updated.

Ivan: Yeah we'll definitely have to work out logistics for a race, but I know you're solid at this game.

Usedpizza: Now that I think about it, you're right. I think it's worth considering this for a RTA run. Added.

icedwindowsil: Squad-based FPS/TPS aren't really the kind of games that are hits at marathons, it's usually the faster-paced games like Doom, Quake and Portal that get good responses.

Games!
Hello Smiley

The Mega Man Battle Network (MMBN) speed running community has exploded here recently. Two months ago, there was just one runner for MMBN6, now we have at least one runner for each game in the series (even spin offs). Battle Network is more of a cult series, but having just concluded our first MMBN marathon, I'm excited for it's continuing growth and appeal Smiley

1. Mega Man Battle Network 2 (any%) [Estimate 3:30:00] - My personal favorite, 2 shows off how powerful chip combinations can make short work of any boss. OneHand final boss fights could make for a good donation incentive.

2. Mega Man Battle Network 2 ('NG+') [Estimate 2:30:00] - There is no true NG+ in any of the MMBN games. This category trades over a full deck of chips from a second cartridge. It's a fun run if there's not enough time for any% Smiley

3. Mega Man Battle Network 3 White/Blue (any%) [Estimate 4:30:00] - Second longest of the MMBN games, it's often cited as fan's favorite. Version could be a bidding war.

My twitch page is www.twitch.tv/tterraj42

Method1cal and Forte27 both run MMBN6 which is arguably the best in the series for speed running. I highly, highly recommend them.

Chucat:

Ghouls 'n Ghosts: We're not having Ghouls 'n Ghosts and this game seems very marathon unsafe because there's no way to deal with random drops if they're above you since they stay on screen forever (literally forever).

There's a grand total of one drop in the game where something can spawn on a ladder above you that you have to climb (two if I'm bad), it's in the second half of level 5, right before the final/penultimate boss. I have four ways to deal with this:

1) I wait for the guy with the pot to move, kill him and jump through the pot before the item inside appears. If I can't do that but it contains an idol, I'm still good, if not, consult the three ways below.

2) I despawn the item by running all the way to the left, if I've killed everything this takes 5-10 seconds.

3) Assuming nothing on the level despawns for whatever bizarre reason, I have three additional weapon chests to open (3, 4 and 6 (or just 3 if I got hit already)), if this is second playthrough and I have magic armor on, they all (or just 3 if I got hit) will contain the weapon I need to finish the game, as in 100% certain, hard coded, will contain this weapon, so I pick up crap weapon and instantly pick up psycho cannon. If it's first playthrough I might have to beat the fifth boss with a suboptimal weapon, oh well. This'll take an additional 10-15 seconds

4) Kill myself to reset the level, takes seven seconds for death and reload, a minute to get through again.

My feelings on The Demon Rush
Page 13 stuff:

Mundungu:

DKC: I'll consider you if you can get down to the 34 level like Garrison and Reflected have.

Don't know what glitched croctopus chase is, but it could be cool as a donation incentive.

Bizkit047: Yeah I'm not a big fan of this category. I feel if we had a KH game it should be the full game, and I already gave my thoughts on that.

Ego:

Hook: too obscure

TMNT2: way too repetitive and long for what it is. This is essentially jump slash the game.

X-Men Mutant Apocalypse: I told molotov this, I like the game but it's not really well known, but...

...Now that I'm thinking about it, it is technically a marvel game, so maybe it can get hype as a bonus game? I'll add it there for now and see. I also need to sort out who would be better equipped for this game, you or molotov.

Billy Hatcher: There are people better at this game who play it regularly, and I already rejected it.

Fuzzey_Ninja: You are correct, they are both too obscure, but that wasn't too painful, was it? Wink

Krauser: Yep I know you're legit, added.

Marche:

Kirby: NiDL:  We have adventure and that's the stronger game.

OoS: Okay you'll be considered for back up

Dustforce:

SS All levels: This went really well until the final stage, which seems incredibly marathon unsafe.

any%: This is a fast-paced run and worth considering. Adding.

Sonic Adventure DX: All stories is too much time to invest into a single Sonic game.

Big the Cat: Honestly, you can't recapture the SGDQ hype.

FFTA: Hah.

Sneaky: I think Mega Man X4 is worth doing again with the X/Zero bid war. I like it. Added.

Kubelwagon:

Doom race: Kreygasm

Doom 2 co-op: Double Kreygasm

GTA 2: Not really feeling confident about this game. I feel it's been overshadowed by the 3-D GTAs

Call of Duty: Honestly we have a ton of strong FPS offerings and I don't see this one making it, especially since CoD is more known for multiplayer, and people might have forgotten there were CoD games without suffixes.

Murph: Ring of Red is a guaranteed lock for Slow Games Done Maybe. I think I have enough space for 300 hours worth of games.

Two Crude Dudes: Definitely a goofy choice and good candidate for awful games. Added.

Dirty Harry: This game is indeed goofy and awful. Worth considering. Adding it.

Btoads arcade: Already said I don't feel like this game is a strong entry in the btoads lineup.

DDsom: If butters is okay I'm okay, and it seems from the talk we had on IRC he was okay.

Power Shovel% best %.

ThatsFairZack: Lufia 2 is definitely a cult classic RPG, but I don't see how something that is 3 hours long and can vary wildly with RNG is a good choice. No.

linkdeadx2: I'll have to consult with people about SMW stuff, I know dram put in a good word for you though.

CyberBotX:

Aquaria: This got a pretty good response at SGDQ, but I'm not seeing anything super new to sell it to me for AGDQ.

Jumping Flash!: Way niche and obscure. Fun game to play but I don't think it's the best watch.

Kirby's Dream Land: We just did this, and it's not like a must have every marathon. 30 minutes is also a ridiculously high estimate

Solar 2 and 1000 amps: Too obscure and unknown.

Sunblade: you are indeed a very good RE4 player and I'll put you down for RE4. I also like Assignment Ada as a side incentive.

Rin: I will say this, we have done obscure games in the past, and 9 times out of 10 they don't get much of a response.

Big Bossman:

Perfect Dark: Well RWhiteGoose said your Perfect Agent run would be better. Sounds good.

Goldeneye 007: Again, going to have to talk to you and other elite members about how to deal with this game.

Xem: I'm not really big on doing another ratchet and clank game in a marathon. They've had okay responses, but nothing stellar, and we've had a lot of other sony platformers like Spyro, Crash, and Jak offered.

moooh: Magicka might be worth considering, so I'll put that in for now, and SS: TFE co-op sounds good.

Satireplaysvidya: Already rejected Spongebob Squarepants in previous posts.

the1stpkmnfan:

NMH2: This is definitely a cult-classic game, but I don't feel like the gameplay is strong enough to warrant 3 and a half hours.

Hamtaro: Too obscure.

Mario Tennis: I don't feel like a nearly 2 hour long tennis game would be a good watch, even if it hast the Mario name on it.
