Hello, I just finished this FREE game at 100% and I really liked it, so I’ll do a Speed run of it. Yesterday I finished the world map of the game, I’ll prepare the perfect path as soon I can.

Here is the map (1000x2959 pixels and 9,83 Mb)

See you soon when the path will be finished

What's the faster orb route? I believe is blue -> red, however, for the 1st run I believe red -> blue is faster (there is 1 bag near blue orb over red blocks).

I can recall a few useful death-warps to save time (i.e. when getting the 2 bags in the 1st and 2nd screen).
Also I think you can climb the "Abstract Bridge" screen up, it saves time in the 99% run.

Also here is a 100% playthrough in 26:16. An actual speedrun should be around 24 minutes.

I may be trying to run this game too if I have some time Smiley

edit: here's another map (6080x1920, 565 KB):

I've just tried to do any%-runs of it just because it's fun, and I haven't bothered to find some good death warps or an efficient route yet. Also, have you noticed that you can stand on the edge of spike blocks? Not sure if it helps in a 100% run as I'm only doing it to get from the wall jump to the end.

Did a test run with a lot of mistakes in 23:10. Bosses are easy to dodge, but to get past the prawns without dying is a pain.

The hardcore prawns? Wish I could do it without having to go for the bell, but it's just too hard. How much deathwarping are you doing in a run like that?
I did these:

- "Never Could See Any Other Way" (after getting the bag)
- "Don't be Hasty" to "Obvious Movie Quote"
- "Attic StoreRoom" to "Clarity Comes in Waves"
- "The Arbitrarium" to "Mine Shaft"
- "Swimming Upstream" (after getting the bag)
- "KISS Principle" to "Exit Strategy"

And I just noticed another one that will be useful:

- "Don't be hasty" to "Pit Stop" (after getting the bag behind the blue wall)
I did an any% run, it was terrible but I uploaded it anyway so you can check the route. I'll upload a 100% run tomorrow.

My any%-time is around 6:15 I think, that was the best time saved in Wsplit at least. Have to check my twitch if the video's still there.

Alright here it's the best route I've found for 100%

This run is 22:55 minutes long with a lot of mistakes, including 2 minutes trying to climb up the pit, so I think sub-20 minutes is perfectly possible (my PB is 21:10-ish)

I haven't tried a 100% run, although I did try for a better any% earlier today. And sub6 is possible. Finished it at ~6 minutes (05:55 in-game timer).

Gonna check your video a couple of times and try a 100% during the next week or so.

I decided to give the game a try, using the same route as Varg and I got an any% time of 5:30. I think it's possible to get down to 5:25 or so... but still.
And the faster orb route is definitely red -> blue, because then you get right on top of double jump.

The video is here: http://sv.twitch.tv/ibldedibble/b/324136117 (Varg/Chronowolf is really loud in the call, because some people were telling me that they could barely hear him...)

Alright here it's the best route I've found for 100%

I'll take a look at your run later and see if there's any route changes that should be made (I'll probably try to do a 100% run as well in the future, but right now I'm gonna try to record a any% run).

Edit: Just watched the run and the two biggest things to change are:
- Getting the red orb before the blue orb the second time around (it's 15 or so seconds faster than going the other way iirc) and
- the "final skip", I did some testing and it feels slower than the route me and Varg uses from the spider gloves to the end. Two extra rooms and two extra tricks that are somewhat hard to do correctly.

I'm not 100% sure if the "final skip" actually is slower or not, but it felt slower to me.
Yeah, it seems that your skip is faster. Great find!

I didn't time what is the fastest orb order, so I take your word on that :p
I don't have enough time to continue my work on the the Run (some unexpected things came suddenly). Here you have my current work if you need.

You could save a little bit of time by jumping before dropping off ledge (so you start falling with some downward momentum). The best method is to release the jump key just as the player reaches half the maximum jump height.

This is because the game modifies gravity the moment the jump key is released to vary the jump height.

Also, your time gain is just about 0.2 seconds. And only if you do everything correctly (releasing jump at half the maximum height, barely missing the edge when falling down). If you fail by touching the edge you'll save nothing. If you jump too late you'll save less or even lose time (when jumping > 0.2 seconds late). Also, if you hold jump for too short or too long you'll save less time (0.16 seconds for minimum-height or maximum-height jump).

I just managed to get a 19:58 100% time, which you can watch here:
Part 1 and part 2 (part 2 is only like 30 seconds long)

There's still some time to save, like hitting both the bag and the snake in the Don't Be Hasty room at the same time. Also I made a bunch of small mistakes here and there. I'm thinking the goal is 19:50 with this route, but I'm not sure.

My best any% time is 5:23, which I'm probably gonna send in to SDA...

Also, me and Varg are thinking of starting to race the game, so everyone should learn the 100% route and start racing it with us. Wink

There is a map of the game up on Pirate Hearts website: http://www.piratehearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/worldmap1.png
Me and Varg figured out two minor changes to the 100% run, that will save a couple of seconds.
First: Not getting killed in the Circular Logic room, but rather picking up the bag, going left and then out right to save a second or so.
Second: Skipping Worth It? and Not Worth It! until the second time around and taking them after spider gloves the second time. Should save another second or two.

I don't think we got any other changes. Anyone else have a faster route or should we work on just perfecting this route?
I managed to beat my old 100% time by one second (there's still like seven seconds to shave off that time, possibly more).
Here's the video for that: 19:57

My any% time is possible to beat by a couple of seconds, I'm going to guess that the perfect time would be somewhere between 5:18 and 5:20 (using the current route).
The reason I'm sure it's possible to beat my any% time is because I once again managed to get 5:23, but this time I died three times and I missed a walljump.
Video here: 5:23

So, I decided to get a bit more practice in this evening.
First I did a couple of 100% run: first attempt I got 19:24 (and here I thought 19:45 was perfect or near perfect)... and then I got 19:13 (maybe it's time I start recording 100% runs now? :P).
Then I did an any% run just for fun and got: 5:20 (which means that I probably should record a new run and get it verified here).
Edit: I decided to record an any% run and got a 5:17! Will I beat that... ever? Doesn't feel like it. Tongue

Anyone else making any progress or am I the only one who still runs this game? Shocked
Please tell me that you recorded that 5:17 any% run X_X

I never play this game, should do an any% just to get it beaten on my backloggery tho Cheesy

Of course I recorded that 5:17 any% run. Smiley

You should go beat it and then practice it... especially 100%. Wink
I don't even like the game >_<

I think I'd rather learn Blue Assassin but that's for another time when I got more time to spare. For now I'm using my free time on:

FF6
Practice SotN and HoD for ESA
Casualy doing some HCL any% practice
Making the HCL map
Fire Emblem?
Slight necrobump, but well the run came out on SDA recently(...ish) and 100% looks like it got good but was still improvable.

I've been messing around, running this somewhat casually. But I've also messed around a little with segmented (yeah yeah I know segmented isn't as fun to stream, whatever, but you can pump these segments out in 5-10 minutes each), and managed to get a 5:16. I tried about 100 times, but couldn't get the jump ibldedibble described in Leap of Faith (best I could do while practicing was getting a few frames from the top of the ledge), which would cut off another second or so. I also don't know if I did the fastest strats in a few rooms - Don't Get Snippy in particular.

Either way I can see a few minor improvements - some might only be viable in segmented or with lots of practice but I think these rooms could be improved in the current run:
Castle Rock (going down) - I've tested a few times and it's really hard to measure, but I think it's faster by about 1/10th of a second to fall onto the first platform (the highest one), then jump OVER the second, swerve in the air and fall down between the ledges on the right and the platforms. And why yes, I DO love adding run killers 20 seconds in.
Observation Deck (going up) - You can save maybe 1/5 of a second by doing two smaller jumps on the ledge on the right while going up, instead of bigger jumps.
Your Hidden Crevass uses an extra jump - you can go straight from the mushroom platform to the 2nd top ledge to the top mushroom platform. Probably saves like 1/2 of a second.
On Eden Maw on the way out, instead of jumping to the platform, you can double jump up just past the skull and wall jump off the white platform. This is pretty huge, like, it's about 3/4s of a second. It's hard, though, as if you miss you normally drop into the skull, which is an instant reset.
You probably already know this one, but Taking the Long Way was a little cautious, could have cut maybe 1/2 a second off with better wall jumps. Also you can be a little further right after dropping down the chute (you can avoid grabbing the item bag) which saves maybe... frames? Not really important actually :P.
You can get through Hardcore Prawn about 1/3rd of a second faster with a different strat. It's a little risky (but then just about every strat in that room is). Basically, as soon as you get in, double jump up to in front of the bottom left prawn. Then jump again so the shot from top left prawn misses you. Then jump and double jump up to in front of the top left prawn, then leave (fun fact: this strat doesn't even use the spider gloves, so using them might be able to improve it even more!?). I get out regularly just after the bottom right prawn first (one 'beat' faster than your WR run).
Before the Crash is faster with only one wall jump, I think (not 100% certain about this one though)
Your Linchpin could also be improved by maybe 1/2 a second.

Add all these up, and I do still think this game has some more potential for better any% runs. There's like just under 3 seconds here of improvements, on top of the 1-2 seconds you mentioned in your comments, which makes about 5:12 look optimal (probably about 5:10 for a TAS without any major route change).

So I dunno if you (or indeed anyone else) have any interest in improving your run, but if you do, there's some ways it could be done :).

Yeah, there are a few small things that save a little bit of time and then there's a new route at the end which saves some 10-ish seconds. I think it's possible to save even more using another route change towards the end that I haven't practiced enough yet.

The change that saves 10-ish seconds is to go up past Danger and The Long Way Around and then back to the first room and jump up through the hole to Hardcore Prawn there.
The other route change that I think may save some time is going from Leap of Faith to Abstract Bridge and jump up that way to the first room.

I'll start practicing some more soon, got a bit too much to do in school and such right now though.

I did some practice with the new any% route today, got a 5:10.
http://www.twitch.tv/ibldedibble/c/2027555 (I apologize for the loud breathing and coughing in parts of the video, I have a cold, I just didn't think it'd be that loud.)

Now, I compared it to the 5:05 run that rainbowism and when playing them side-by-side my run finishes faster, but he goes into the menu to watch the time instead of waiting for it to show at the end. Not sure if that's what makes the difference or if it's a lag issue or what it is... but it's weird.
http://sv.twitch.tv/rainbowism/c/1624901

Edit: I figured out why. When he exits to the menu it uses the time from his last save, instead of his finishing time. (If you fast forward to 5:05 in his video you'll see him hitting the last bell on the route. If you fast forward to 5:10 in my video you'll see me just about hitting the WIN orb.)
So I guess that means I actually have the WR (unless someone has a run somewhere that I haven't seen).
