Just finished a single segment run last night. Got a 3:59.
Good job! At-least its close to 3:56 by Daniel 'Jiano' Hart on 2009-04-19. Your getting there.
Just to make sure it isn't being overlooked, the best known time for SS any% is 3:52"59 by Robwest.
i knew about that time but the reason why i posted the other time is because its a starting place to try to get at before trying to go beyond that time
The question is whether or not they can FEASIBLY be done without pause buffering (even rob gets like 6 or 7 bomb king bulblin fights usually IIRC). If anything, this menu buffer method will at least make the timing without buffering make more sense.
I tested my menu buffer King Bulblin strat a bit - the first 2 bombs are damn near 100% consistent as long as you do them right. The only thing stopping a near 100% consistent 3 bomb fight is the last bomb - he swerves all over the place and I'm having a hard time coming up with a strat that manipulates him to be in the right spot every time.
I've been practicing EMS a lot and I'm having a lot of trouble with it. I can get it about once every 4 tries and I can't seem to do any better than that. Would failing it once or twice in a SS run instantly cause it to be rejected? I don't think I'm gonna be able to get BiT, perfect goats, S&S skip, and EMS first try all in the same run, and that's only the first ~20 minutes of the run.

Well BiT wouldn't seem to be a huge issue, seeing as how it's less than a minute into the run. As for goat herding, if you are using the world record method of goat herding I recommend you try this method.
It wont get any herdings under 21 seconds, but it is easier to get sub 30 sec. with this method. Sword and Shield skip and EMS are mostly practice to get those down to first try.
Yeah, that's the method I've been using. It is much easier than the world record method.
Honestly, I don't think herding over 30 seconds is worth resetting over in a run of this length. As long as it's not like, 50 seconds, it's not losing much time in the long run. Obviously it's better to try to get under 30 seconds, but I don't think it's worth it to reset every time a goat refuses to cooperate.
I don't think restarting directly because of poor luck in the beginning is a good thing. The important thing is the overall quality. Keep in mind that while the goats may not go well, other things may go extremely well instead, completely making up for it.
I've been practicing sword and shield skip a lot for the past few weeks, and I've come to the conclusion that there is no way I will ever be able to get it consistent enough with the current setup. There are just too many variables (camera, bulblin's angle from the wall, A button mashing speed) for me to ever be able to do it consistently enough for a SS. Unless a new setup is found, I don't think I can actually do a run of TP. That, combined with the fact that I never have 4 hour time slots to do runs (although disc switches help a bit) is really killing my motivation to run this game. It may just be too much.
I haven't completed any so far. I've been doing RTA runs without BiT or S&S skip (I get slingshot since I don't want to push bokoblins), but every one of them has failed for one reason or another. Snowpeak in particular has been an awful run killer, I'm only about 50% consistent at Freezard skip even though I'm sure I'm doing it the same way every time.
Well, since you are allowed to save in an RTA, why don't you save before hard parts such as Snowpeak or King Bublin. That would at least let you finish a run. And I recommend making a save file at Snowpeak so you can practice the hell out of that Freezard skip. And do you back up when doing the Freezard skip like Jiano and Rob or do you just turn in the corner without backing up at all?
