(Insert a bunch of links to Final Fantasy marathon runs here)

Other than that, enjoy the runs.

Thanks a lot! Really appreciated!  I'm sure I'll be picking through those over the next few days catching up on the runs I missed.

Your welcome. If anyone finds more missing parts feel free to let us known here so those who check later can know.

Thanks and farewells

I haven't watched all the way through but from what I saw as I was making these links.

FF12 has some missing time between parts, a couple of minutes or so in the first 30 minutes.
FFVI has ~20 minutes missing from the middle of the run and unfortunately the last 16 minutes of the run has been chewed up by twitch. SHAME ON YOU TWITCH!!!!
This also includes a minute or two about in the first part of the Thanks and farewell section is missing as well.
Other sections may be missing but were not immediately noticed by me when doing the timestamps for these links.

Other than that, enjoy the runs.

Thanks FFGamer!  Much Appreciated!  I'm using these to download some of the runs, 30 minutes at a time in way too large files.  But I really want to see the runs, so it'll have to do (Maybe poxnor could highlight each run on twitch and then upload the highlights to youtube?)

you know I was thinking would it be any problem if we are having a final fantasy marathon to basically have to streams one that where we share a stream for gameplay the other is commentary(using skype)/ w-split timer.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Trying to keep two streams synchronized would be a nightmare. Much better to keep it on one stream. Even then, stream lag makes Skype commentary difficult, but better that it least all be on one stream.

what about the idea of sharing a channel to not do travel. that's where I'd like to focus the idea at.  because I've seen that work.

One of the best experiences of a marathon is everyone meeting new people that have common interests. Being able to see Nitrdon, Poxnor, Essentia, puwexil, and the many other amazing final fantasy runners in person talk to them about final fantasy and stuff is one of the best experiences I have had and not just playing the game during the marathon.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
That said, what you're suggesting is possible, megakidicarus.  You can give an access key to your Twitch channel to other people, then everyone can stream using your Twitch channel (and you can reset the access key afterwards).  That's how the bonus stream worked with C4L.

because I was thinking I can't travel but I'd totally own ff3nes in a heartbeat basically using this route minus the RNG manipulation.  though I'd probably have to use emulation to stream it.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Umm, just to clarify here, megakidicarus: you're thinking about planning your own marathon, or something like that?  Because the marathon that was organized in this thread is finished...

considering it. how long does organization a community marathon take.

That's a pretty broad question.  Things to consider:

- Do you want to support a charity?  If so, what sort of planning do you have to do with the charity (e.g., a donation system, branding, legal approval, etc.), and what sort of donation tracking / comment system do you want to use (I was really lucky to have great people setting up donation and comment tracking behind the scenes for me, so I didn't even have to worry about that)?

- Do you want a website for the marathon, or will you run it strictly off Twitch?  How about artwork (again, I had people other than myself doing a great job on all of this, so I barely had to give those things a thought)?

- How will technical setup work?  This will be an added challenge if everyone is streaming from their own place, instead of there being travel (a marathon where people travel has its own set of things to consider, though)?

- How long will it take you to find players, and how long will the players want to prepare?  How do you want to schedule when everyone's playing (and leave time for schedule revisions to be made, obviously)?

I dunno, that's just a few things off the top of my head.  This marathon was in March 2013, and it looks like this thread was started sometime in September 2012 (there was another thread started earlier than this one that was just about gauging interest, but I don't think it came that much earlier).  And, even with all the people I had helping me (and that was a lot of awesome people), it felt rushed at times.  Now, that's not to say you couldn't organize an event much more quickly...but, assume it will take significantly longer than you think Tongue

Edit: Does anyone remember how long it took to organize JRDQ (i.e., the time between when it was first proposed and when the marathon started)?  Because that's probably a good gauge for the absolute fastest a non-travel marathon supporting a charity would take to organize.  And there were a lot of people working together to make JRDQ happen.
Fucking Weeaboo
JRDQ was pretty much thrown together in 2 weeks and it was quite chaotic with lots of little issues here and there. Scheduling was awful.

Give yourself at LEAST a month if you're planning a multi-person small charity. Preferably longer.

Talk to the Hand
Yeah, I wouldn't use JRDQ as a model of how to do anything. If anything, use it as a model of how NOT to do something.

On the other hand, I think while some of it had already been planned beforehand, the Lindsey Layne Kingathon truly came together in about two weeks once romscout took the handoff from the TSG community on it. So I guess the example kind of stands. You CAN pull it off, but it's very difficult, and I'm sure rom used a lot of the lessons learned from JRDQ to do it.

the TSG community used to have a lot of community marathons. planning was about 6-8 months there. the gamers were less responsible there, sometimes people didn't show up even though scheduled to play/admins. I played a lot of filler. keeping that in mind I find SDA to be more responsible. my guessing 3-4 months for planning( excluding the interest topic.)

There were definitely issues with JRDQ, but I would say scheduling was not one of them. We ended up maybe 70 minutes behind schedule by the end? So I would say we did a good job of keeping on schedule, if anything.

That being said, yes, you want at least a month when planning an event. Even for a smaller-scale community event, you still have to organize everything.

We're going to start shipping prizes soon.  I'll be contacting the winners hopefully this weekend.  I met with JDRF this evening for the debrief, and except for a few very minor things that we could do differently next time, they were incredibly happy with the event Smiley  Oh, and by "next time," I mean...

(Thanks to the one and only Kari Fry for the James Bond-inspired art. And next time, it will be an RPG marathon, instead of just Final Fantasy.)

This is awesome, I cannot wait! I had a blast watching all the amazing runners in our Final Fantasy community! So much Hype

Also on a side note: That feeling when people are saying they are wearing a crystals for life shirt that you are wearing on stream!

Im interested in attending again. I may have to find some new games to run lol.
I don't know how to run any RPGs that might actually make it into such a marathon, but I'd like to attend anyway.

Kupo!
Oh heck yes. Yes. Yes. And I totally have an RPG I can bring to it. Cheesy

Just hope I can afford to go!

Edit: Of course I could always bring Crisis Core again too but... Tongue
Fucking Weeaboo
Looked like you guys had fun. I love smaller marathons (I've never been one for big crowds) so I may work on getting my passport and leave the US for the first time ever next year. Flying to Edmonton is probably a bit more expensive than DC/SLC/Denver, but I'm sure it will still be a lot of fun. Smiley

I've got an idea of a RPG game involving crystals by Squaresoft...that's not Final Fantasy. Tongue Guess I better start practicing.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Actually, it's probably cheaper to fly to YEG than to SLC.  YEG isn't a hub (the western canadian hubs are YYC and YVR), but SLC seems to be a certain kind of special in terms of being bloody expensive to fly into or out of Tongue

So, here's hoping that you can make it to C4L 2014!  I'd love to see you again Smiley
Fucking Weeaboo
SLC wasn't too expensive for me because I can use Southwest to get there, which is a pretty cheap way to fly (DC for AGDQ generally runs me about $200 round trip, SLC/Den around $300-400, where a trip this May to YEG via Delta would be over $500 + Checked Bag Fees, UGH ON THAT). I can't use Southwest to fly to Canada though.

But yeah, it was fun seeing you at SGDQ last year and it would be awesome to see you again.
It's pretty obvious I'd like to attend again, and help in any way I can. Perhaps I should even pick something to practice all year...hmmm
