Thanks FFgamer86.  It's going to be Final Fantasy related.  Actually, I just started one of Terra.  =)  Thank you for your response.

Big update to the first post, mostly to try to clean it up.  Could everyone please ensure, in the schedule, that their games are the proper length (just to make sure that I didn't screw that up or miss an update from someone).  Also, make sure that you're written down as a commentator for any games that you wanted in on.

Alko: that's awesome that you're thinking of coming all the way from Germany!  I hope that you're able to make it, and that Edmonton isn't too much of a letdown Tongue  If you do decide on coming, just post a sign-up.

FFgamer: Added you to FF9 commentary.

Mikadia: We've had Kari Fry offer to do the banner design already.  But that's awesome that you're doing some art for prizes, though! Smiley  Thank you very much.

Everyone driving: Fixed up a big oopsie in the AB Ride Guide Tongue  Thank you, MetaSigma, for bringing that mess to my attention.

So is this going to be much like a normal SDA marathon and gamers who aren't playing for the marathon are welcome or..?

[Shows he's never been to a marathon before]
Moo! Flap! Hug!
I think space is going to be too limited for me to house anyone who isn't playing or commentating. But, you'd still be welcome to attend, if you roomed elsewhere. Note, too, in the first post that there's a fee for people who aren't playing or commentating.

Ran FF8 Entirely on PS2 Slim with No Crashes. Will be doing more attempts to make sure it doesnt crash at all. If we switch to PS2 Slim we can move the estimate to 10:15 I believe.  My run of each disc comes to a total of 9:15 but should be able to get that lower still with some improvements. And then donation incentives take less than an hour and should speed up disc 4 as well. Could possibly get sub 10 with all donation incentives which will be nice.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
ffgamer86: While the time allotted on the schedule might be too long, one thing I have learned from marathons is to keep estimates loose so the schedule becomes tighter. Filling time is much easier than saving time.
SDA Speedruns: 1
Good Idea. But I know my estimates have been way past what I expect and Filling a whole hour could be difficult to do.  Original estimates have us at 11:30 on the PSN Version but I still think that would be too long of an estimate if we use PS2. I would think 11 hours would suffice and still have plenty of leftover.

Poxnor at the urging of Leno that it was a good prize I've sent to you via bestbuy the Final Fantasy XIII-2 bestbuy exclusive with the comic for the 360.
Bah, I did nothing. :p I just said "holy crap, I know I don't have a say, but that's awesome! Yeah! Yeah!"

*whistles*
I just got the same edition for my 12 year old nephew. His first FF, actually. I need to tie him to a chair and put a SNES controller in his hand

FFgamer: If the PS2 really is like a full hour faster, then I think lowering the estimate to 11 hrs would be okay (is it that much faster, give or take, for any%?).  But, before I switch the schedule to a PS2, I'd want some sort of confirmation that the slim PS2 with fast disc speed really doesn't crash (especially anything FMV-intensive, like the part of the game when you're in space).  I've heard anecdotally that it doesn't crash, but I know for a fact that the fat PS2s with fast disc speed crash, and the PSP Go with fast disc speed (newer than the slim PS2, keep in mind) also crashes.  So, that's why I'm so cautious about whether the English FF8 on the slim PS2 really doesn't crash.

lizzie241: That's amazing!  Thank you so much Smiley

Driscollad: The GBA port of FF6 was really good, so that could be a way to entice him to try a classic, if already has something that plays GBA games.

Also, unfortunately, Lenophis had to drop out of the marathon for personal reasons.  That leaves us without an FF1 player, and I'd really hate to lose that game.  I could just give it to that lazy puwexil guy, but I hope a better alternate presents itself.

Edit: If anyone wants to pick up FF1, the deadline will be 15 January 2013, so that you have time to learn/practice the game.  The current marathon schedule is based on the PSP anniversary addition being played, but I'm flexible to change that if necessary.

I can learn FF1 if no one else is up to it. The problem for me is though I only have the version that comes on PSN.  I also would need someone like Leno or another FF1 Runner to give me some basic info for routing so that I can work on it quickly.
FF8 only crashes on Fat PS2s.  I've been doing several runs on a slim PS2 with fast disc speed and I have not had it crash once.
Moo! Flap! Hug!
Thanks, Caracarn.  It's not that it always crashes on a Fat PS2.  But, if you've done a good four or five runs on your slim without a crash (I don't know how many you've done), then that's very strong evidence that the problem was resolved (then reintroduced on the PSP Go Tongue ).
