I re-did Segment 2. This time, I got the Fire Burst and optimized flipping (as well as I could to keep consistent with Segment 2). This segment is 1 second longer than the last improvement. Also, I made a really stupid mistake at the end which cost me 1 second (missing the Star Block >_<)

I'll get Segment 4 redone as soon as I can, and then I'll move on to Segment 5. I already have a plan for 1-4. I just need to master the jump on Fracktail.

good stuff so far. but missing the star block is inexcusable. better do an improved re-improvement.

this isn't important, but a word for the future. turn off the volume on the Wiimote. the sound effects made when pointing at the screen will play through the TV speakers, therefore be recorded on tape. you don't have to do it, its just to fix that awkward silence when pointing.
Does it really matter that much if a game just came out campared to getting it run? I don't think so...

After looking through the segments,I think that after you go through them this time that you remembered the Fire Burst. Hopefully you wont have to worry about redoing/recording segments for reasons like this.
It's possible to do the second room all in 3d; I've done it before.  You just have to jump from the right place; I think near the "top".

Also, this is really early, and 1-2 was good but not absolutely perfect.  You shouldn't be so shy about redoing 1-2 as, if you can't match what you did in 1-2, you won't be getting out of world 3 to say nothing of world 8...  I'm not even trying to be mean; I'm being honest.

you can get into the Pit of 100 Trials from B2 inside the city by using Bowser and a Double Jump and using the Bomb pixl and the throwing pixl together.  Bowser has amazing throwing height.

I discovered this while looking for the 4th heart pillar...  Didn't know it went down there though. Tongue

First time through.

what? that sounds way too confusing. there is no double jump.

all you need to get into the Po100T is Boomer. not like it matters in a speedrun. takes too long.
I bet he means get there without using the town outskirts.  I don't know whether that would mean it could be done earlier in the game or not.

I don't know what the double jump is.

If he means what I think he means, it is a pretty amazing find, but useless in an any% speedrun.

if you jump, then jump again, you jump a bit higher than just jumping once, and i think that by jumping another time yet you go even higher.  Dunno if its from running or sequential jumping though.

As bowser, you arm the bomb pixl, then the instant that you can, you switch to the throwing pixl.  You grab the bomb with the throwing pixl, get some speed and jump, throwing the bomb at the peak of your jump, and if you aimed it right, the bomb lands right by the switch.

I dunno if the throwing the bomb pixl trick is needed anywhere in the game (dont tell me if it is), but it could be applied.

I wasted goads of coins on that stupid bar guy until i realized that the fortune teller person could tell me where my next heart pillar was. -_-

I know you jump higher walking than standing still, but I don't think you jump higher your second jump.

That throwing Boomer thing may well be useful.

k.  I was just really desperate to find the next area today, and stumbled upon it in my quest to get to the other side of the wall...

What you should do now is do Segment 2 again and don't miss the star then re-do segment 3 and segment 4 again so you can improve your time. What is your total time after 1-3?

Okay, my re-improvements are done.

1-1 Improvement:

I didn't miss the Star Block this time. Strangely, the time was only improved by a little less than a second.

1-2 Redo:

It's about the same as before.

1-3 Redo:

I had a really good O'Chunks fight, saving me 13 seconds. (Have you ever gotten 10 multibounces in a row?)

I think I should move on to 1-4 now, unless there's a huge time-saver I'm missing.

EDIT: 1-3 was 13 seconds less, not 30.

No, I've gotten 3 multibounces though  Grin

1-1
10/10   very nice segment! Perfect run

1-2
10/10   very good, a few minor mistakes that costed .01 time.

1-3
12/10   best segment so far. Great job on O'chunks  Wink

Overall Rating 32/30
fuck you i wont do what you tell me

I've done Segment 5 (1-4).

EDIT: I removed the old link to save space on my YouTube account. The link above links to the improvement. The following may or may not apply to the improvement.

I killed the blue Squiglet so that it wouldn't hurt me on the way down like the one after Bestovius in 1-1 did. I killed the pink one for convenience, because it usually knocks me down from the blocks as soon as I get on them.

There were about 4 seconds of mistakes, 3 of them coming from one of the ladders (I forgot to jump before climbing up).

awesome job. despite the mistakes, keep that segment.

1-4
8/10   It was pretty good. It could be improved by more than 5 seconds. Fracktail was really good but you made a lot of minor mistakes on the dungeon part.

Okay, I just finished Segment 6 (the part between Chapters 1 and 2). I think this is a pretty good segment (the save at the end wasted a lot of time, but I didn't want to do all this and Chapter 2-1 all in one segment).

you should have saved after getting Peach. you wouldn't have lost time by doing that.
Just wondering, is that throwing Boomer thing well-known?  This thread is the first I became aware of it.  I've got to think it will be useful somewhere in the speedrun, against some switch or some boss.
fuck you i wont do what you tell me
i have no idea.  If its not, then i discovered something new for the first time ever... o_O

well, not first time ever, but still...
Medium well known, actually.  It's not a secret, totally unknown ability, but it hasn't moved to the level of common knowledge yet, either.
1-1: Yeah, this is what 1-1 needed to be all along.  It might be less than a second, but it also just looks more professional all around.

1-2: I didn't watch it.  1-2 is too boring for me to watch 3 times.

1-3: Yep, that's about how an O'Chunks fight should go.  I don't think you could reasonably be expected to do much better than that.

1-4: Yeah, most of the level was pretty mediocre (though hardly awful - mostly minor time losses here and there), but the boss fight went pretty much perfectly.  I don't blame you for keeping it with that in mind, but I don't know how hard it is for you to stay on Fracktail.  I always found it quite difficult so I'll assume you find it the same way.

Intermission: Yeah, that save at the end shouldn't have happened.  Either save after getting Peach or save in the middle of 2-1 if that's a problem.  The thing is, even if you have a quite bad 2-1, you still will probably not lose 25 seconds as you lose by segmenting here.  Also, this has bothered me the whole time playing this game; does Peach move as fast as the Mario brothers(I'm quite sure Mario and Luigi move at the same speed)?  She seems like she's slower (though still faster than Bowser), but it might just be because of her short stride that it seems that way.  Have you tested this out, and am I just crazy?

Pretty good speedrun. I'm not watching any more segments until I finish the game(I live in Europe so it's not out yet) and I don't want the game spoiling.
