The pit would take a fantastically long time at the levels you'd be at after the first world and without Carrie. Waiting to do the pit would probably save time just because of how long the pit is.
umm... i'm just watching this now, and i'm at the battle between bowser and the big flora king, and i'm keep thinking to myself - did you know you can use bowser's flame while jumping with carrie? that would make a lot of your battles more easy and quick. the battle before that with o'chunks would've been a lot faster. please don't kill me if someone already said that here. XD
Yeah, I actually used that in my run in some battles (like Mimi in 6-2).
Also, can someone please summarize the new sequence breaks and other tricks? I know all the tricks up to 3-2 that are in sarou's run. Since I feel like redoing my old run, I need to know this =P
EDIT: Also, would it be possible to use this experience trick later on?
I think this is known already, but I was experimenting with cooking today, and Mystery Boxes seem like they give you Mistakes half the time, a random one-ingredient recipe at other times, and of course the Miracle Dinner. I don't know exactly what they can give you as I didn't go indepth, but out of 10 Mystery Boxes, I got a Slimy Extract, Snow Cone, Herb Tea, and a Fried Egg. Since Mystery Boxes from the shop in Crag cost 3 coins, it's a much more cost efficient way than buying an extra item from most of the Itty Bitts.
Also, you can go straight from Ice Storm + Turtley Leaf to Snow Bunny instead of Snow Cone + Turtley Leaf. It may not save time, but I also found out that Snow Bunny + Peachy Peach can also give you Fruit Parfait, and the normal fruits from 7-3 can get that Peachy Peach + Keel Mango recipe.
Of course, this will only help if Recipes end up being included in the 100%, but just putting it out there for those who don't know.
Can someone please tell me if getting the Merlon and Murluvlee cards, the Peach(2) card and the Watchitt card would be enough to buy the Flopside/Flipside pipe? Cause them cards are all in the way and if not what about adding the Red and Green card? Would this work?
Also Sarou in the fishbowl segment after talking to Merlon it is faster to use the return pipe and jumping off flipside tower to get the fishbowl guy.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but the Chapter 6-2 Mimi battle can be beaten a lot faster than 43 seconds. I discovered the method the first (and so far, only) time I've done the fight. Basically go into the battle with Bowser and Carrie (which is THE combination for most bosses), and when the fight starts and she rises up into the air with her Rubee shield, quickly hop onto Carrie, jump, and start breathing fire in her general direction. For some reason, a sort of chain reaction of rapid-fire damage occurs, and by the time she's sliding from the knockback, you've already won. I'm not sure of how long it took overall, but I estimate it was around 5-10 seconds from the beginning of the fight to when the post-fight cutscene started.
I'm not sure why or how this happens, since it happened so quickly, it was on my first try, and because this kind of strategy was one I had used on almost every other boss since Francis, I did it all by instinct. In any case, no matter how the rapid-fire hits, it's still a significantly faster strategy.
NOTE: I haven't watched the run yet, so all of this is solely based on what is mentioned in the run comments. Also, my memory of what I exactly did to beat her that quick isn't that great, so you might need to move a little to the right when you jump, or something like that. I remember doing around 14 per hit, and though I'm sure that the strategy will still work with a lower Attack, you'll probably want to play it safe and either level up or use a PP. Finally, I just want to clarify that I'm still on my first playthrough, working on the Pit before Chapter 8, and I rented on the 9th, so don't expect any sort of extensive testing from me anytime soon.

I'll surely test this when I get back working on my run, having a little break now.
If I did a run I would be getting the Red n Green card the Watchitt card, Merlon and Merluvlee cards and Interned cards then sell them on the way to Flopside in the card shop and with the money buy the Flopside/Flipside pipe. Would save time for sure..

I was going to ask if anybody was working on a new run, but now I don't have to. Yaaaayyyyy.
In any case, I'm thinking that the fire might've hit both Mimi and her Rubee shield, and the Rubees were the cause of the rapid-fire hits. In other words, this is probably how the combo goes: Fire > Lots of Rubees planted in face > More fire along the line > More Rubees in face > Falls onto ground > Slides on ground > Rubee mania > ????? > PROFIT
Also, this isn't speedrun related, but why has every boss up to Chapter 7 ended up being so dang EASY? The only ones I had any sort of trouble with were Francis, the 1st Mr. L fight, and Brobot L-Type. Francis was just annoying to find in time with Bowser (I didn't immediately figure out just how awesome the Bowser/Carrie combination was against bosses), Mr. L I kept trying to burn from the ground (forgot that Bowser could breath fire in midair when using Carrie), and Brobot L-Type was partly because it was actually harder than anything before (not saying much, though), and I also went with the Bowser/Carrie thing because it was the best I could think of, even considering the double defense against fire.
Please tell me that the Chapter 8 bosses, Wracktail and Shadoo are actually challenging. Cause I had a harder time fighting the Ninjoes/jerries/johnnies in the Pit than with any boss so far.

Couldn't the money be acquired much faster by just killing enemies along the way during each level? Cause 300 coins is an amount you'd easily have by the end of Chapter 2.
Infact is you power level at the start till your attack is 6 all the enemy killing and coin collecting could get your level higher which would be faster so yeah probably.
No, that'd be slower. What I mean't was just kill enemies along the way, without slowing down at all, and NEVER grinding. That way, you'd have enough long before the pipe is available, and you won't have wasted time getting cards or repeatedly killing enemies in the same area.
