Wow, this guy sure put up a lot of speedruns on his channel. (I think he's the first one to take one of my Dr. Mario speedruns!) He left the statids in and also puts in the description for each video that they're taken from SDA, although he doesn't give explicit credit to the runners. I don't know whether or not that's a problem--I'm really not too worried about my own run that he took, but I thought I'd let others know.

Also not to mention the videos are old. Since the statid isn't in the MM7 one, it's the original one. So yeah, he can have that one.

He did try to contact me recently...probably wanted to have my recent one, but considering how he posts videos, the hell with that. Speed Runs deserve more respect than that.

I think the idea mentioned earlier, about putting some sort of watermark throughout the entire video, such as "This run originally created by XXX on date XXX and hosted at speeddemoarchives.com. Seen anywhere else is a violation of the original runners copyrights" would be a great idea. I think it's a shame that Satorya is having to put that little disclaimer at the beginning of each of her SotN runs, and this leperdragon guy is just asking for a good beat down of some sort. Would it help if we all sent some 3rd party emails to YouTube - not as Copyright violations (since you have to be the author to do that), but as some sort of other report of Abuse?

Hi. This is my first post. First I'd like to say that I really enjoy watching the speedruns you guys and gals make.

I think I have a solution to all those stolen speed runs you find on youtube.

It's the simple saying: If you can't beat them then join them.

Why don't the great people of SDA put up a official account on youtube of Speed Demos Archive? Uploading the clips or the whole speedrun on youtube with the speedrunners name.

That way even if someone puts a clip of someone else's speedrun (let's say Resident Evil) there will always Realated Videos on the side showing up the Official SDA's Channel. That would put the stealer's name in shame :).

That way SDA secures the speedrunners run in a safe way.

Does SDA have a teaser or trailer that they could make their own YouTube page with, and then give all relevant information about runs?

What I mean by that is, if they make a trailer, and then put in all the tags so that people searching for speed runs would find their page, they could put up information about the genuine runners, as well as "known thieves," or other issues. Just a thought.

Some people think they can outsmart me.

I've been kind of wondering about this issue.

I guess the "failsafe" method is to do a transparent, roving watermark inside the movie at various intervals. I'm loathe to consider it, but if it was done tastefully and in areas that are not absolutely critical, it might not be so terrible.

For example, the San Andreas speedrun. While the runner is transiting the map between missions, a roving watermark could be inserted anywhere in the video stream without significantly detracting from the video.

I have seen "intelligent" scanners that are intended to remove such watermarks, so the watermarks would need to be designed in such a way as to defeat them. All the more reason to overlay something funky, like an animated SDA gif. A virtualdub script could handle this pretty easy, as long as the encoder picked the areas to insert it. Some kind of psudeo-random insert would be best -- perhaps just using the current system time as a "seed".

This is such an odd thing for someone to do. Are they desperate for people to watch a video they uploaded, even though they didn't have anything to do with it? Honestly, what do they get out of that? "Ooh awesome this video I uploaded of some other guy playing a video game got a shit ton of views, WEEEEEE! The internet will think I did it, I'll be a superstar now!"

Well, if a run gets a ton of views on youtube, everyone will think that the person who uploaded it did it. Say it gets onto the front page of youtube. That guy will get extremely popular and the person who actually did the run cannot convince anyone that they did it and not the person who posted it.

Yes, in 2006 I wished. They should be just like Webnations, who Uploads almost all the movies published at speedruns.net

Looks like my other run got pirated as well. However, this person at least hasn't yet claimed to be the author, I still contacted him and asked him to put up proper credit and a link to SDA in the comments. Let's give him some time to react before calling the speedrun police.

The videos contains the SDA logo and the name of the runner.
