Another reason I'm not bothering to file a complaint is that they make it far more difficult to do so than it has to be. It's like they encourage video theft or something.

Edit: The main thing is that YT requires the site to have a copyright notice somewhere. As far as I know no such notice exist anywhere on SDA (at the moment of writing), so I think there is a big chance that any complaint about SDA content is currently seen as a non-legit complaint. So before we have this copyright notice, on the game list or the index site perhaps, I don't think we can complain about shit at YT.

the thing is:  that the owner of the runs holds the rights to the speedrun.  not sda.  all that is needed is thats there is a legit owner and the owner complains and askes youtube to take it down.  no where does sda have to get involve.

your on the right track.  that's too painfully obvious of a threat.

Right.  Because SDA doesn't hold exclusive rights to the video, nor do they gain any rights over the video, they can't do anything about requesting the runs be removed.  The runners have to do it themselves.

Edit: Screw this, I won't bother with it anymore.

uh, i guess mass email complains at youtube are the only option.

the only thing that can be done is make them block his account because the vids belong to other people.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I think that the runner has to complain or else it is not considered valid, unfortunately. :-/
Good luck to the people trying to get the runs removed from his account.

The world does not need more 16-year-olds blatantly taking credit for other people's work.

You can lead a n00b to water (read: tell him he can perform a speedrun) but you can't make him drink (read: he'll post up other people's runs to make himself feel better when he keeps denouncing himself).

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Saw this today:

The StatIDs are there on the ones I looked at, but there was no credit given anywhere else.
Visually Appealing
if they leave the StatIDs in, that is kind of giving the runner and SDA credit. i see no problem with that. its when they edit out the StatIDs when it becomes a problem.

Theft is theft, with or without attribution. Most will see a StatID and think it's the person who uploaded the video on it.
TIOLET!
I actually tried sending in a notice, just to see how they would reply (it was obvious from the start that they would not accept it). They only sent me a list of what I should include, the entire fucking list, even though I had successfully included all but 2 of them. They didn't even bother to pick out the missing things.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
It got removed! Grin Here is the notice I sent, if anyone wants to use it in the future:

Quote:
My original videos are located here:

The following videos are infringing copies of the above videos:

I may be contacted through my e-mail address, manocheese@gmail.com, or my YouTube account, Cheeseoman, on which the videos were originally posted. I am the creator of these videos. I have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law. The information in this notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Lloyd Palmer ("Cheeseoman")

I used the copies of my run I had on YouTube because I figured the dates would not be questioned, but I think the best way to do it otherwise is to link to the download page and the game page, making sure you say which run is yours if there are multiple runs there.

That's almost a copy of the notice I sent, with different links and so on. Still, my notice was rejected.

Grats.

Now we just need to get the runners of the other 6 or so runs to do the same and all of his stolen videos (which are all his videos) will be gone

Course then there are the other 100s or so other thieves accounts there...

TIOLET!
So they finally decided to accept my notice. The Doom 3 run has been removed from his account as well.

Well, just to update on the email I sent, they said they needed a letter of authorization saying that I may act on the copyright holders behalf, and a letter stating that the use of the material by the party in question is not authorized.

In the future, maybe runners could provide such information or something in advance and SDA or someone else could act on their behalf.  Of course, runners themselves can do it.

Here's video information for the runs still posted if other runners don't feel like compiling it themselves, just pluck it from here and tell YouTube that you're the copyright holder and have not authorized leperdragon to post the videos.

An idle thought:

If the thieving YouTuber won't let you post comments on the video, is it possible you could get a message out my linking to it?  I noticed that it'll show details of sites linking to the video.  If some message were put in the URL, it might tip people off to what the deal is.

Unfortunately, you'd have to manually show the links to see them.
they could disable embedding.
*high fives for everyone*

and this is the form i sent before incase someone wants to look at it for future references:

YouTube it have come to my attention that gamergx4 is taking Speed demos archive videos editing out the Author and time and claiming credit for him/herself. The SDA members and staff is well aware of this and wishes the videos be remove at once.

it appears someone else has stolen Lucid's SotN run.

congrats. looks like the effort paid off.

hopefully this will discourage those thieves and give SDA more respect.

I wouldn't worry about people who don't get much attention from it. Otherwise you're going to waste a lot of time doing this.

I sent a notice to YouTube about my run being stolen, and they didn't accept it. I included links to all of my videos on YouTube, all of leperdragon's stolen videos on YouTube, and a link to the run on SDA pointing out my nickname "DSGamer3002" which shows even more proof of the run being stolen. They sent an e-mail back saying that I didn't have enough proof. =|

Can someone help me out with what I should send in an e-mail this time?

Edit: Here's an email I sent just a few minutes ago to YouTube's copyright address:

Quote:
The following are all of my original videos which I created for a speed run of a video game:

You can see that all of these are in a playlist I created a long time ago:

The following user has stolen these videos I created:

http://youtube.com/profile?user=leperdragon

Here are the links to each of the videos he has stolen:

--------------------------------

You'll note that although the videos are exactly the same, the ones this person has uploaded cropped out to be viewed easier. These videos were cropped out and encoded by a staff of the following website named "nate":

http://www.speeddemosarchive.com

The following is a link to the completed result of my videos, with proof that I am the original recorder and producer of these videos:

Please take a moment to download the following video:

http://dl.speeddemosarchive.com/MetroidPrimeHunters_12035/MetroidPrimeHunters_12035_part01.avi

Once you open this video, you'll note the property of these videos belongs to me because of the screen in the first few seconds. This notice was cut out by the user who has stolen my videos.

Is that enough? >_>
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
That should be enough. If not... I don't know, maybe the person handling your request just doesn't like speed runs.
