Way to keep at it Zyre, ~8 hours of recorded playtime, for only 1/2 or 2/3 of the game so far, and with like a year of testing, that's pretty awesome. I went back over some of the old segments and I think this run will be well received; great strats.
It's the GC's sound chip btw. Skies' music is sequenced (as in cartridge-based consoles, and certain games such as the Final Fantasy series); the DC's chip could handle the complexity of it, the GC's sometimes can't.

Thanks.  It's always good to hear that.  I'm currently on vacation with my family until Saturday/Sunday, plus I start a new job on Monday, but it shouldn't slow me down much on finishing this run.  With 16 segments left to go (some of which are nothing more than go there, do this, and go over there; making it easy to record), this run will be complete very soon.  I'm hoping to get this recorded and submitted before classes start on the 30th, if not sometime in the first week of classes.

EDIT: I originally wrote 18 segments, but I meant 16.  See what vacations do to a speedrunner?  Tongue

That soon?  Damn, I had better get that bounty listed soon.

Segment 35-A - Yafutoman Welcome?
Segment 35-B - Jao & Mao's Prophecy
Segment 36 - Four People In One Underwater Suit?!

Segment 35 was fun because both the battle with the ship and with Jao & Mao needed the right amount of luck.  The ship battle was really lucky in that a few of the shots were critical hits, defeating it on that third turn.  If I wasn't so lucky, the ship might have healed itself at the end of the third turn (which happens fairly often).  Jao & Mao can't KO anyone, so it was some luck needed there.  Once I got past them, it was smooth sailing.

Segment 36 is quick in comparison to the other dungeons that feature the Moon Crystals.  Escaped every battle save one that you must fight.  The statues can petrify quite often with their attacks, hence the need for the Gem of Fluidity (which negates petrification).  Fortunately, even if petrified, characters still add Spirit.

Wow.  When you take away the exploration for treasure, and the random battles, the dungeons are surprisingly short.

About the suit, maybe only Vyse needs it, and the rest can hold their breath like Guybrush Threepwood.  But on another tangent, who decided that every water dungeon has to feature changing water level puzzles?
So is steelskin going to be a pain to manipulate?

No, because if it happens, it happens.  Tortigar loves to use it and often too.  The move that I need to manipulate is Sacrulen, which heals him fully.  If I can get him to use it early, then I'll be able to take him down fairly quickly.  To my knowledge, he only uses it once.  I'm going to work on the next segment or two today, so expect to see them up later.
i got pretty lucky with torterra tortigar on my recent playthrough, it didnt use saculen once and after using steelskin a lot early on while i was building up sp for a prophecy it mainly just used its regular attack afterwards while i alternated between rounds of foucusing and pirates wrathing. if youd had the warriors heart accessory it would help with the focusing by adding two sp from the second round onwards. not sure how many more moonfish youd need to get it tho

I think it was only two more moonfish to get it.  But yeah, you did get lucky that it didn't use sacrulen once.  For the run though, it can kill an attempt at recording if I nearly have it killed when it uses it.  So instead...well...why don't you watch for yourself:

Segment 37-A - Torigar & the Crystal
Segment 37-B - Tenkou

Something that you may notice in this segment is that I stop by the ship shop to purchase and equip a torpedo - something that I could have done a couple of segments back when I bought the Deluxe Kits before going to the dungeon.  Reason why I do it here is because when I was planning this segment a while back, I originally needed to buy a sword from the weapons shop at the same time as the Sacrum crystals, which would leave me with almost no money for the torpedo.  So I saved the purchase until after the dungeon (which is when I would have enough money).  However, I forgot two things. First, I already had a better weapon in the Dream Cutlass from the Dark Rift (which I remembered to equip in the final run).  Second, when I altered my notes to reflect not needing to purchase a sword, I forgot to move about purchasing the torpedo to the same time as the Deluxe Kits.  At least it didn't take too much time to take care of.
that was a most impressive battle indeed. from that battle and my own i would guess that it uses saculen only if it gets attacked repeatedly in quick succession, and possibly the same goes for its super move as i didnt get that nearly as much as you did. of course thats all just speculation on my part, it would require a fair bit of testing to work out its patterns.

while i remember it, later on in the game (probably towards the end but im not exactly sure when) you should visit the item shop on sailors island for some apo waxes, which if you didnt know is incremus for ship battles. then only way you could get a more broken item than that would be if you could get such an item for regular battles

That was some really good luck with the boss fight there.  Part of me wonders if switching the colour of Vyse's cutlass for part of the battle would make it go noticeably faster.  Of course, you'd have to remember to switch it back to silver at the end.

I noticed that when you bought the torpedo, you unequipped the sub-cannon.  I take it you'd rather the concentrated damage from the torpedo than the spread out damage?
welcome to the machine
Any reason you didn't re-equip the white map after the boss fight?

Interesting that you say that, because I would've assumed that if Tortigar steelskinned on a bunch of prophecies or something like that it would totally screw the segment.

edit: although, seeing the segment, it looks like prophecy will always supercede the enemy's turn.
There's a word for that
It looks to me like it'd be more efficient to have Vyse use Focus (or do more healing) while charging up for the second Prophecy, and then switch to Cutlass Fury to finish the boss off, possibly with someone else attacking.

Yeah, prophecy will always take the whole round of battle.  If you didn't notice, after prophecy, the boss didn't do anything, and the next round began.  Blue rogues, a similar attack needing a full spirit bar, also eliminates the enemy turn, but it does less damage than prophecy and won't be used in the run.

Thanks for the strategy.  I've tested it out and this is the result:

Segment 37-A - Torigar & the Crystal (New)
Segment 37-B - Tenkou (New)

I found that it shaved a little over 2 minutes from the battle. So thanks again for suggesting it!

O what fun it is to have been able to watch these portions before anyone else on the stream...  You are in the home stretch now Zyre... Finish Strong...

O yea... and remember...  WE ARE GOING TO DEMAND COMMENTARY!  So get your vocal cords ready (as what was said in the stream, you don't have to have commentary in every segment, but we want to see your slow movements into madness trying to do it)... Smiley
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Omg you named your segement after my live stream joke- thanks Zyre!!
