It wasn't about turning invisible, it was just Providence refusing to use his teleporting ability when the player isn't close enough. I can't 100% confirm it but I'm pretty sure it's now impossible to abuse that glitch/AI limit; he'll use his teleport no matter where you are. That's a pretty big deal for Huntress runs, since she can be pretty squishy and at the least it reduces your DPS by a pretty significant margin (for every range class).

Should see whether there's a 1.0.0 version available somewhere.
"Flying" Armor
The only way I can see to get into the credits is activating an oCommandFinal object, which only exists after defeating Providence.

Oh I see, because I "glitch" him by turning invisible with the bandit, but looks like you can do it without the bandit too, my mistake

Shit, what a pity ... Cheesy

I wonder how the teleporters work. Does that work the same way the end credits trigger does ? It only appears by the end of the 90sc countdown I suppose.
What could we look into in order to find new ways of running the game ?

Have you seen anything else interesting 404 Error ?
ps: shit I ran with acrid, I was at 14:10 by the end of stage 5 and I blew it. I teleported back to the first stage... Raaaah, I hate this game Cheesy
I used Acrid, who is just OP (but I wonder if the final fight is easier with him or with a long range class)
I managed to get to the hidden portal thanks to a combination of jetpacks and the cursed ring on the Mercenary. But as far as I can make out, it can't even be activated. Shame.

I don't think anyone's mentioned the Mercenary's ability to dash through walls, if he has high enough movement speed. Not exceptionally useful, but fun.

Yeah, I also tried to find a use to it a while ago, that's why I asked in the first place about its presence and use. But looks like it's just standing there, absolutely useless. Don't know why

Hmm interesting. Are we talking about thick walls ?
Edit history:
Onin: 2013-12-09 11:26:22 am
Most walls are only a single tile thick, with everything past them just being empty space. It's hard to say whether there's a specific thickness you can or can't dash through. My biggest question (and next point of research) is how much movement speed you need to get through walls. Specifically, the doors in the final level. Skipping those shaves a full minute off the clock.

Very interesting indeed ! I look foward to trying this.
When you say "high enough movement speed" how much are we talking about ? Is this related to the Paul's Goat Thinggy that increase your speed ?
I'm trying to find out how much you'd need exactly. I got up to two goat hooves in one run, which wasn't enough. So yeah, you'd need more than a little bit, probably not feasible to achieve in a speedrun without insane luck. And then it saves less time than getting a Meteor.

What class do you use ? I usually use the Bandit but lately I did a few excellent runs with Acrid. The problem is, I get killed when it comes to beating Providence. I think long range is the best choice, unless you have massive life to play short range against the final boss
I did all my runs with Huntress, she has the fastest movement thanks to Blink and does fine aoe damage. Not sure if she's still worth it over Acrid now you can't cheese Providence anymore. I don't really care about her low health since in the end every character's life or death depends on your pickup luck.

Hand to hand combat with Acrid against Providence is harder than I originally thought. Running through the stages is very easy, but I can't beat the final boss, he's too fast.
I guess this counts as a 1.0.2 PB: http://gyazo.com/232c40dc98f0bde48d307f25f0f06ce7.png

Average damage pickups, only found a meteor in the last level which asked for a major detour. But at least I can confirm it still wrecks phase 2, that didn't get nerfed. Also, it's safe to use meteor during the other phases as long as you're careful not to step in any blasts, shouldn't be too difficult.
So, I found this on the official forum : all the classes' stats. Might be interesting to take a look at
http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/the-giant-list-of-ror-stats-work-in-progress-updated-for-1-0-2.33241/

I'll be updating this post very soon with one of my failed attemps. Stage 1 to 5 : perfect run. I started the last stage at 12:48, but died miserably against Providence, proving once and for all that hand to hand classes are not doing great against the final boss.

EDIT :
Hy guys

What is the WR atm? Wilbos 22:23?

My pb is 23:40 atm.

Just wanted to know if I follow what rules you guys made up for RoR.
I´m using realtime as you can see in the video.
All item file.
no glitches.

Wilbo's 22:23 is the RTA record, my PB is 20:02 at shit framerate. I've upgraded my system now and am in the process of grinding out a better run.

SDA said they're going to count in-game time as long as the framerate is consistent with it. This allows for abuse of the timer stopping upgrades. Personally I feel like IGT is the most sensible standard for any run, because it's just convenient and outright restricting two upgrades just feels unnecessary.

And I have no idea whether version 1.0.0 is available anywhere to make use of the Providence glitch. And if it is, we'd have to decide whether to use that, or latest version, considering the providence glitch isn't substantial enough to warrant a difference in category (at least, in my opinion), but it saves enough time (and effort) to make a 1.0.0 sub-20 much easier than a 1.0.2 sub-20.

Where did they say that ?

Yeah, about that. I've been thinking, maybe it's okay to use the in-game timer. But I'm torn between overusing time stopping upgrades and real skill. For example you can have a better time on a lesser run than when you use real time. The goal of SDA submissions is to have a perfect run. Hmm I'm going to try a few runs with the watch and the time keeper's secret and I'll see.

I wonder which version is the Final Beta on the Humble Store RoR's page. It has been released a day before the steam launch..

ps: I had a thought the other day about manipulating items that can pop up. What if we unlocked only a few interesting items + the class we need to make a good run. Like achieve the challenges to unlock the huntress, the watch, the meteorite. That would be less shit RNG when it comes to find an item. That's just a thought though, but we might look into it before we throw that away

Where they said it:
Quote from IsraeliRD:
Issue #2 shouldn't be a problem. See Marble Blast Gold, where Time Travel powerups stop the time for 5 seconds (intentional because that's how you beat the Gold Times).

Issue #1 however IS problematic. If we want IGT we'll have to force the runner for 60fps, otherwise use normal speedrunning rules and ignore IGT.

The time keeper's secret has a massive cooldown (more than a minute I think) and only lasts a few seconds, it's hardly worth the risk abusing it in my experience. The Watch is pretty sexy, but it doesn't replace the need for the Meteor, and the portal item is potentially better in the early levels.
Onin : Nice !
Agree on the Watch thing. But since I first played the game co-op we usually abused it. But in solo, the watch is not the optimal choice to run the game.

One more thing : I checked, the "Final Beta" on the Humble Store RoR's page is 1.0.0.0 aka th first final version of the game, without the few patches applied in the last weeks. I'm going to use this version right now and try to finish a run

IT'S DONE.

I'M DONE.

Due to it being a Dxtory recording, there are some small framedrops which end up pushing the real-time up to 18:03. That's still amazing, and I have no plan to improve that unless someone beats it.

(I checked all other recording options, and while OBS doesn't lag it, it records at 20 FPS for me and that's just not acceptable)

I'll be able to upload it to youtube tomorrow.
That's pretty impressive ! Have you tried using fraps instead of dxtory. I have absolutely no problem recording my runs with it
Fraps was much worse for me. Honestly I don't care whether it adds a few seconds at this stage, the recording quality is fine and that's all that matters to me.
This is incredibly lame on normal difficulty; it's 100% item luck, almost no skill involved.  See how many times you can grind out the levels, yay

It's getting to that point even on monsoon, too.  Racing is where it's at.
You're perfectly allowed to try and make a decent speedrun, if that's that easy, we'll have to agree with you Smiley
For now, I prefer to run that way.

Onin : what were the items you picked up during your run ?
If you're going to do it, then at least do it on monsoon

downpour is jokingly easy
