We have yet again found a problem with my computer being more laggy than TheVoid's, when recording. There wont be any recording from my side, so all video material for now will be coming from TheVoid. I will nonetheless help him find strategies for the levels.
Yeah that's really too bad rooster :-/

I hope that I can pop up some nice runs then, I'll try my best. And it would be nice if you kept helping with strategies and such of course Smiley

I am getting a new machine in a few days. The Graphics Card isn't the greatest, but should be more than enough stable to play RA2.

I think _I_ am back in business. Now we need to figure out, how we time it.
Great about the new machine Smiley

From the moment the gameplay shows up after the loading screen till the "Mission Accomplished" shows up, I guess.

I guess, we should restart it soon then Smiley

Hopely you will.

My Computer arrived and is set up completely.

I will install YR on Monday and see how it runs.

Sadly, my Screen of my Laptop broke before I could test. It is in maintenance now, so you guys still have to hold :/

Err, I got a brand-new desktop PC a week ago, that runs Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and BioShock on Ultra High Settings, I guess I can record now.

TheVoid, whatcha say? Cheesy
Well, I'm currently busy with Age of Empires 3. I want to finish that one first before starting with something else again... Wink

May I suggest that you first test if the recording is actually good now Grin

Could you hook me up with the settings I need to record on?

I remember dex had posted some special setup to make the recording synchronous?
The couple of Soviet runs I've made were recorded on 1024x768 and 60 FPS.
I believe dex said some time ago to record on 30 FPS. But try 60 first.

After nearly 2 years and 3 months before the first post, and quitting the project twice, I have finished testing of my new comp and TheVoid and I found that our timing is accurate enough to say that they are comparable.

So I am officially relaunching this project, also regarding the fact that a ninja-speedrun of this is currently being verified (sadly there was no topic about it, so I don't know anything about routing etc.

I will nonetheless start practicing and route planning again, as of tomorrow, and will eagerly watch the speedrun when it comes out, and be the first to challenge it's times.

Anyone who is with me on route planning etc, be free to comment on any progress I post. I am also editing the first post again, to match my progress.

And to quote what I said to TheVoid earlier: "God how I have waited for this day to come!" Cheesy

EDIT: @TheVoid: We might be able to use the mouse-glitch again, because the ingame timer can now be used as our timer, right?
Looking forward!  Wink

The mouse glitch can only be used if we won't run this game as Individual Level runs, but only as a normal continuous speedrun with manual saving at the start of the level Wink
Cute and Cuddly Lemming
I'll keep that in mind then for a seperate category, because that mouse glitch will increase some times tremendously.

EDIT: Also I found a first breakthrough for Soviet 1 and 3, making atleast 3 alot faster than I had thought it would be.

Yay

So, TheVoid, just for testing, I just made a Soviet 1 run utilizing the mouse glitch, which is a fair timesaver, and I only managed a 3:09.

Please, please, please, please, let it not be a timing problem AGAIN!

EDIT: Did you encode your run like you had planned? I would like to take a look at it.
You mean this one? Smiley

How does the mouse glitch help in Soviet 01 exactly? You need to wait for the Construction Yard to deploy itself anyway (Or can you already select and deploy it yourself?).
Thanks to the invitation from Rooster, I can now participate in your RA2 speedrun competition. The speedrun videos in Youtube were submitted by myself, which only showed the tactic of fast progressing but not the poor operation  :-X, and they are all I can promote for those fast workthrough. I believe you can do much better than I did if you are using the same tactics.

Does anyone have interest to speedrun Yuri's Revenge campaigns?
Hi there, I've seen your videos (Rooster pointed them out to me) and indeed they contain some nice tactics. I found similar tactics myself, but yours were a bit better optimised for most of the levels (Not all ;)). So thanks.

Absolutely, but not right now (At least not me, as I first want to finish Age of Empires 3 and after that RA2). But Yuri's Revenge will be done Wink
Cute and Cuddly Lemming
Yuri's Revenge is what it leads up to for me, because that expansion made the game near perfect and one of my favorite games of all times.

So yeah we are headed there.

But Right now I'm still worried that we have a timing issue. I'll be trying to perfect my Soviet 1, and hopefully get closer to TheVoid's times. I'll use your conscript method and see how fast I can go.

I though about this though: You said the Warminer is steering alot ouf of the lane, does he do the same when you use waypoints?

Just a thing to remember maybe, TheVoid Smiley

I just checked it and yes he still changes lanes a lot Wink And on top of that he stops at every waypoint you set, so he needs to accelerate/startup after every waypoint... Manual steering is better.

I decided to move on from Soviet 01 and take your 3:01 attempt on that as final (unless you want to improve it).

Also TheVoid and I have decided the ingame timer is okay to be used, so 3:01 is the time we take as "record" or "run time".

Worked on Soviet 02, and will check out your approach to it, TheVoid, using my beginning tanks to kill the base, run them for some time saving, build defense and also a shipyard to kill the boats. 6:40 is possible says TheVoid, I'll try to match it.

A little update, as I've been toying around with RA2 occasionally during breaks:

I found a way to record RA2 sessions without having to run Camtasia, simply by running the ra2.exe with the parameter -record. This will save the session in a "session.ipb", which can be played by running the ra2.exe with the parameter -play session.ipb. This is useful for handing back and forth little strategies without having to record using Camtasia.

However I haven't found a way to scroll for-/backward. Sadly.
sda loyalist
That's sweet. You'd think that since fucking Starcraft had a way to record the games, newer games would take note of this incredibly successful and still-played-today game. But noooo. Smiley
