SalekTesrel and I (well, mostly Salek, I'm no good at calculating time optimization) are attempting to research an optimal any% route for Rayman Origins.  It appears that every version of the game is the same in terms of gameplay, although possible load time differences have not been tested.  Salek is playing on Wii, and I am playing on Xbox 360.

From what I've been able to test, you need a minimum of 130 Electoons to access the hardest King world, Angsty Abyss, and there do not appear to be any Electoon requirements for entering Moody Clouds.

131 Electoons are required to beat the game, and the requirement chart reads thusly:
Jibberish Jungle 10
Desert of Dijiridoos 20
Gourmand Land 30
Sea of Serendipity 40
Mystical Pique 50
Moody Clouds NO ELECTOON REQUIREMENT, RESCUE THE FOUR KINGS
Ticklish Temples 90
Grumbling Grottos 110
Luscious Lakes 120
Angsty Abyss 130 (+1 from defeating Murray)
Return to Moody Clouds, finish endgame.

The main issue is level skips.  With the exception of levels that give you a new power (such as It's a Jungle Out There, Port O' Panic or Polar Pursuit), every level gives you the option to skip it (with no Electoons collected) after dying eight times in a row.  It would be prudent to determine which levels are most beneficial to skip, and where, and which extra electoons one would need to collect in order to compensate for level skips.  Additionally, depending on how long a particular level is, it may end up being faster to play it properly than try to skip it, as most levels can be quite short when done quickly.

As for Moody Clouds, I know that Riding the Storm and Mecha No Mistake can be skipped on the way to The Reveal, Get Away! and The Final Showdown, which are played in succession and cannot be skipped.

I'm no good at this kind of thing, and I would appreciate all the help I can get from any interested parties regarding route planning.  I'll be fine with actually playing the game once we settle on a route, but until then I'll take any help I can get.

So here's the math as I see it.  We need 131 Electoons to complete the game (130 to unlock the last king, plus his electoon).  Because of the 40-electoon jump between Mystical Pique and Ticklish Temples, it seems pointless to try and grab the bare minimum in the first half of the run.  In my opinion, an early-game route should have 100 Electoons by the time we get to Moody Clouds for the first time.

When I was testing World 1 routes, I found a 17-electoon route that was relatively fast and still went above and beyond to make sure I had more than enough electoons by the time I unlocked Desert of Dijiridoos.  The 17 Electoons come from 11 Electoons collected in normal levels (five level-completion Electoons, two lum Electoons from 1-1 and four bonus electoons) and six from the last two levels, the last of which is an auto-scrolling shmup, where there's no reason NOT to collect all three Electoons without wasting any time.

Thus, if we were to expand that to 18 Electoons (adding an extra bonus level?) and collect the 18 (or 12+6) in each world leading up to Mystical Pique, that gives us 90 at the start of Mystical Pique's first world, Moseying the Mountain.  The problem with Mystical Pique is that it does not have a shmup level, as its final level, Golly G. Golem, is heavy on platforming, although it does have a lum level (Way of the Electoons).  I would say going for ten electoons in Mystical Pique for 100 Electoons at Moody Clouds.

Once we've entered Riding the Storm and are rebuffed, things can move at a faster gait, as we only need 20 Electoons over four worlds.  There's a shmup level in Ticklish Temples, Hunter Gatherer, which could make for an easy three Electoons.  Let's not forget that the boss levels cannot be skipped.  If we skip all the levels in Ticklish Temples except Hunter Gatherer and Poor Little Daisy, which is another shmup level for 3, that gives us 6.  We don't even need to collect six electoons in every world later, because that would give us 24 when we only need 20.

So, with six electoons at TT, we can get another six at Grumbling Grottos with the same principles (using the shmup levels Don't Shoot the DJ and the boss, To Bubblize a Mockingbird, which is a pattern-based boss and whose lum Electoons can be collected without wasting time), Luscious Lakes can get another six from You're On Fire! (another shmup) and the boss My Heartburn's For You (which is a fast-paced chase level where collecting lum electoons is expected).

That leaves us with only two electoons to collect in Angsty Abyss; here, we can complete Beware of Mini-Murray plus one lum electoon, allowing us to unlock Murray of the Deep, giving us 131.

Sorry if this sounds like rambling, but this is just my initial theory, and I'd be happy to have help to sort this out into something both optimal and comprehensible.

I've been practicing a 16-electoon route of World 1 on my stream, which I am uploading to YouTube now.  I managed to get 16:37, which is still far from ideal but not too bad for someone who's only played this game for about a week or two.

EDIT: Finally uploaded to YouTube.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
God this game is amazing. I 100%'d it over the last month and I am for sure up for speedrunning it also. I have more of an interest in a 100% run, mainly just because of the tricky treasure levels being so freakin' fun. Some might say that a 100% run would be a little dull, considering you would have to complete many levels twice for time trials electoons/trophies, but the level would look a different enough to still make it enjoyable. Plus the Music and visuals are AMAZING, so it would still be a fun watch. I need to actually buy the game soon and help out making runs of this.

Best of luck, and I hope to start along with you soon, in order to find any% and 100% routes for this great game.

Alright, I just finished planning my Rayman Origins Any% route. I'm playing on the Wii Version, which seems to have much slower load times then the Xbox 360 version. I went through and timed all 225 Electoons before Murray of the Deep to see which 130 are the fastest and these are what I was able to come up with based on my times:

World 10:
Riding the Storm: Skip it.
On Top of Old Smokey: Skip it.
Mecha No Mistake!: Skip it.
The Reveal/The Chase/Shoot for the Stars: Beat it.

Couple Notes:
-Of the 51 levels in the game, you end up skipping actually 17 of them or a 1/3 of the levels, leaving 34 to actually participate in.
-Most of those levels you skip are Shoot'em'up levels. While they are among the easiest electoons to obtain, the levels take forever compared to running through the platform levels quickly.
-The only Shoot'em'ups that make it in this route are a Bonus Cage from "Up and Down", and "Shoot for the Stars".
-The Base times for levels we're based on from gaining control of Rayman to the "Back to the Glade of Dreams" loading screen, as this kept things consistent between different versions. Then I would take the time it would take you to die 8 times and skip the level and subtracted that from the time it took me to "speed run" the level,
-After that, deciding which electoons would make the 130 cut was based on the time added to each level to grab the 150/300 Lum Electoons, and both Bonus Cages and divided that total time by however many electoons I obtain. That helps to decide whether a "slow" level is worth the time going through it, as it might have 3 or 4 other "fast" electoons to bring the overall time down.
-Time Trial Electoons didn't make the cut because they we're the only ones I had to start the timer from the world map for, since they are the only electoons in which you have to re-enter the level a 2nd time to unlock them. So even the fastest Time Trial Electoons(which to note, my times regularly came in at about 20-30 seconds below the Time Trial Trophie times) we're far too slow to make the cut.
-However, in a Marathon setting, since there would be a decent chance you might miss an electoon here and there because of not grabbing all the lums you need or something, Fast Time Trial Electoons are among the best "back-up" or "emergency" Electoons. I'll post later which electoons I have as the fastest "back-ups" not in the route.
-An Any% route looks like it would get pretty dull in Worlds 9/10, as you skip all but 3 levels. However 100% routes would likely get a little long and dull themselves as you would have to play most levels twice to grab the Time Trial Electoons/Trophies, and figuring out 350 Lum Medal routes would be RIDICULOUSLY tedious since there we're a lot of 300 lum Electoon routes we're already long, and 350 would cause you to have to pick up a lot of single lums far off the path. I have a feeling a 100% run would be segmented by level, because it would suck to lose a 4 hour run because you missed 1 or 2 lums in one room.

I went ahead and did a *very* rough run through the game, dying 20 or so times(mostly in the last few worlds), missing an electoon, so I had to go do a Time Trial to make up for it, and just in general grabbing Lums because I couldn't remember which ones I grabbed when originally planning the route. My time was 2:37:xx.
I think Sub-2:00 is possible, remember Wii load times suck, but even so, that should be pretty difficult. Could be wrong though. Hope this helps, I plan on pitching this to Summer Games Done Quick 2, as it would be mostly fun to watch. Worlds 9/10 would get a little dull with skipping 5 levels, but we could balance that out with adding donations for doing the 10 Tricky Treasure levels and Land of the Living Dead. It would have to be off of another save though as you need 200 Electoons to unlock the last Tricky Treasure level.

As for actual Submittable runs, I now am going to go back through the game and try to specify Lum routes. I won't go super in-depth, but I will at least give an idea of how many lums you need by the end of each screen. Either way have fun, and I hope to have more info soon.
aka theenglishman
The only major flaw I see in this route is skipping Hi-Ho, Moskito!  I'm pretty sure there's no way to reliably (and quickly!) die eight times in a row.  I would think that, in the time that would take, it would just be faster to complete the level wouldn't it?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Literally all you have to do is either punch the bottom part of the collum in front of you to break the bottom piece, then stand under it and it crushes you, or jump off the side(which is slower) of the platform you start on. In pretty much all of the Shoot'em'up levels, you should be killing yourself before you ever get on the moskito. With the collum in front of you, Hi-Ho Moskito is actually one of the fastest levels to die and skip through in the game.
aka theenglishman
I think for the marathon (if your or I do this run) there should be a bidding war for whether or not to actually skip levels, since watching us die over and over can be boring.  If so, it would be better to just get one electoon from each unskipped level.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I was actually thinking about making an "all levels" route and put it in here, since obviously that would be much different. Not really a category for SDA, but a good one to have for possible donations at a Marathon. Since I already have all my time figures plotted out for everything up to Murray of the Deep, I could actually go back right now and figure that out. I'll get back to you on that.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
All Levels route:
I'm not going to list "Main Cage" for each level since that would be redundant. Obviously you will collecting the Main Cage from every level, so I will only list the extra Electoons to collect

Earlier today I finished a new Personal Best for an Any% run on the Wii Version. The Final Time was 2:15:31. When I start recording this in the next week, I'm going to submit the first  Sub- 2:15 I get, as by my calculations, a Sub-2:13 is damn near impossible with the current route I've formulated. Here are Time stamps for finishing each level:
(Timing was split as I broke the final cage of each level, or after I deal final damage to whatever Boss, or for the final level, when the screen goes to black for the final cutscene.

1-1 1:54
1-2 4:49
1-3 8:34
1-4 12:10

3-1 36:58
3-2 39:59
3-3 44:00
3-4 45:22
4-1 50:14
4-3 55:32

9-3 2:00:26
9-4 2:02:55
10-4 2:15:31(1 stupid stupid death on the moskito section)

Edit: Again, to note, Wii load times are much slower than 360/PS3, so comparing them is kind of hard.
Slight bump
So what ever happened to this? Is this any% run discontinued or is it still being perfected on? I'm really interested to see what comes out of all of this =)

Good to hear some interest.

I've actually been improving Lum routes in each of the levels, and just practicing about every other day. In the next few days, I should get my streaming set up, so SS any% attempts of these will be seen a lot. I think if I get Sub 2:15 I will submit, but we'll see. I'll post here when I know I'll be streaming.

Can't wait to see that stream set up, spikevegeta!  I'm completely in the dark as to your Lum routes and I guess I need to see them in video form to really understand them.
Glad to know this is actually still going. Me and a bud were planning on doing the same thing pretty soon too. Can't wait to see =)

Hooray, competition!  This is exactly what's been missing from RE4 for me.  I'll definitely be working on both games at the same time once spike starts streaming.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I got my stream set up to at least capture the video through Xsplit onto Twitch.tv, so tomorrow around 12:00 PM CT I will stream some practice attempts. I'll try to wake up in the morning and look at the FAQ's on how to get the game Audio to work, but either way, I'll start my stream officially tomorrow. Yay!

Awesome to hear other people wanting to run this. I saw your videos on Youtube StriCNYN3. Pretty awesome. I might post a link in the next few days with my various level/electoon times to see how they compare with what you guys can do. That should provide us a template to start from to coming up with a possibly faster any% route.

Gonna practice some for a few hours, but tomorrow around noon Central Time I'll do some actual attempts. Come by and see!

Just recently picked this up on PC, killer game! Cheesy

Here I am surprised you can actually skip levels >_> The All Level route looks nice and clean, of course I have no clue what choices are bordering on too long (possible to interchange with others), but I'll jump in and feel it out I guess. I'm going to guess that PC is slightly faster than X360/PS3, which is slightly (?) faster than Wii, but if the loads are good in X360/PS3 I'm not sure whether the differences would even matter.

Looking forward to seeing some progress by you two Cheesy

Nice run CrypticJacknife! I look forward to seeing more IL's from you or even some SS attempts to add even more competition to this.

As for me, I don't have work today, so I'm just going to make a lot of attempts today. I haven't set up Amarec TV yet, so they won't be recorded, but at least they will be on twitch for now.

The PC Loading times (for me) are 3-4 seconds, so that's less than half the X360 loading times. Other things to note include the ability to take hearts into Tricky Treasures and a slightly altered music score, but this is taken in comparison from tem's stream the other day, no personal investigation, so I could be wrong.
I don't know how far into running this game i'll get, I'm in my first playthrough so I'm just learning where the Electoons are and the general sequencing (which at many points is unpredictable.) In the future I might be able to contribute to ILs and such, but I have full confidence that spikevegeta and co. will do this game justice Cheesy
I know this is a little of topic but besides you guys are there any other speed runners that speed run this game?

I feel that if this game had more competition and more people would come forward share & there routes ect we could come up with some pretty optimal runs.

Please post a message when your going to be streaming. I've become a follower on twitch.tv but it's just in case I miss it Smiley

Hard to read indeed.

@shadowblade2193 I've seen packattack do a bunch of ILs, no clue whether he wants to push his workload though since he's still at the DKCR. Hell I dunno if he's even mentioned that here lol. I trump following with a healthy dose of lurking.

@spikevegeta Lurking in your channel now so I'll hear if you come on any time soon XD I just did a few runs of World 1 with the any% (level skipping) route. Didn't time them, but lawdie I need to work out some lum routes, by proxy I just grab shit tons of lums and hope it ends well.
