I tried this on PC.

It's pretty tricky to be able to walk underwater and you need a bit of luck, but the jump out of the water is pretty easy. The first cage you can hit from decently far away to hit it and make the Lum fly towards you. During the second underwater part, I think the camera is a tiny bit more annoying on PC. If you swim too high the camera sticks in front of the ground and if you go too low, you may get back in bounds again. For these things you can mess up for like 2 seconds per swimming section, but you need to be pretty fast and accurate.

Also, I found something amusing while messing around with swimming above water Tongue - http://www.twitch.tv/kirbycomment/c/6097656

Awesome. I was going to look for a way to use the glitch in 100%, but you beat me to it. Tongue

So mano, how many runs were their between the 2:17 and then 2:11? I'm just curious.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Not many. I wasn't going for an optimized run; I just wanted to get something out there with low resolution. I think I did five attempts or so and finished two or three of them.

EDIT: Some observations about the new tricks:
  • Sobinist's original spot to walk underwater still seems like the easiest.
  • For the airswim, the spot shown here is really easy.
  • In 100%, you can get the lum above the mushroom during the first airswim and still survive. The camera can be weird and Rayman can get stuck on things, though, so this strategy is dangerous.
  • In 100%, you can get some air after breaking the cage in the cave. Just swim up and you'll hit a water plane out of bounds. Then swim forward and you'll be at the perfect height in the next room. This makes it easier to avoid drowning.

Wouldn't getting that lum that way lose time?
Also, going up for water takes time too, and you should have enough time, but w/e Tongue

I agree with what Frozen said.
Also personally I have huge trouble to get the walking underwater in the original spot. But I mean that's just a personal thing I guess. It gives me a lot of trouble regardless of the spot I'm trying to do it in. Can't get myself to do runs at all right now, to be honest.

I found a skip for the entire level of Whale Bay 1 on PC, I found consistent Echoing Caves 1 skip on PC and Sanctuary of Water and Ice 1 skip on PC, videos will come wednesday. I hope it won't kill a lot of PC Any% runs now.

EDIT: Some tricks here were way harder on my other PC, especially the Sanctuary one :/
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I found a few things related to the trick used to walk underwater in the Fairy Glade. I put my explanation in the video description:

Hopefully this trick can be used in a few places.

Maybe. I don't think I'll do it that way, though, because it's too risky.

The point is that if you lose any time in the second airswimming section, you can surface to avoid drowning.

Interesting. I'm guessing you get out of bounds somehow near the beginning, then the end of the level is nearby?

Mano, do you predict a sub 2:30 for 100% any time in the near (or far) future? That would be quite the run Tongue
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
With current strategies, even a perfect run would probably be too slow. And that's if you use the fastest strategies for everything. In the long term, it's possible if some significant timesavers are found.
I also posted this on youtube but:

The trick to getting these clips with the Quick Drop is that there's a polygon/edge that you sorta slide along in the 'holding head' mode. The game for some reason prioritizes moving you along that edge over checking collision with the ground. This is probably the reason why you haven't clipped yet in Whale Bay, as the little platform doesn't extend all the way to the ground so you can't slide on those polygons.

Also, it's way easier to clip through water planes (including toxic water) than through solid ground, as the game doesn't do any physical collision responses for water planes (like with solid ground it puts you back up) it just makes you swim or deathwarp depending on the type of water). I don't know if the same principle applies for thorns and lava as those seem to trigger physical responses (the game actively tries to put you back in bounds).

I'm not sure about that. In the second part of my video, the corner overhangs in such a way that I don't think I was sliding along the seam. But I agree that solid ground seems harder to clip through.
A few days ago I discovered this, but didn't bother to make a video until now.

N64 alternate door skip for Water & Ice
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nice find. I didn't know the quick drop could be done on "inward" corners like that. I'll have to play around with that airswim and look for the best way to collect the nearby lums.
Mano, I already uploaded the video, and edited my comment,

Also, has the SDA responded to whether or not we can use the health code? (It's pretty important now)

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I'm pretty sure it's considered a cheat code and would therefore be disallowed, but I'll bump my thread to try to get a definitive answer.

EDIT: It's confirmed to be disallowed:

I got a 2:23:44 on any% today, PC. Also, mano, I watched your 2:34 100% and it made me dizzy - your movement is so precise. I'm impressed at how well you know the route.
    I try to go fast
To be fair, knowing the route is kind of the base for getting a decent run, lol.

    Sanic Heroes addict

So apparently I found a thing. I think this'd be useful? Doesn't look fast to me, though (I know Manocheese had this as a theory in his most recent video, btw)
And so I tried this on PC. I think the clip isn't affected by low FPS because the clip is very consistent and easy. You just walk inbetween the palm tree and the wall and then turn the camera so it faces the wall.

This skip shouldn't be used in Any% runs because the jump to get past the lasers is pretty precise and you skip around 13 Lums. That's at least my thought. I guess because this skip saves around 35 seconds you could maybe get the 10 Lums in Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava to make up for it. But it just doesn't seem worth it for a single-segment run...

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nice job, Gamepro! It's awesome that there are so many people into Rayman 2.

Kirby, I think the jump past the lasers is actually pretty easy. They give you a pretty good upward boost. Even though the trick skips 12 lums, I think it saves 40-45 seconds, whereas those lums in Beneath the Sanctuary only take about 17 seconds. IMO, it really depends on how consistently one can clip through the tree. I tried it for a little while and it doesn't seem too hard, but it's definitely a risk.

EDIT: After playing with the tree clip some more, I agree that it's pretty easy. I think the trick should be used in any%. I also might use it in 100%. If you drop down into the room with the switch, you save about 13 seconds with a perfect clip.
    BLARGHHH
Yeah I was messing around earlier with going into the switch room, its easier for me. I believe 2:09 or so is possible without skips, probably 2:10, and with cave of bad dreams orb skip, S&F orb skip, this whale bay thing, and tomb jumps, I think 2:02 or 2:03 is possible.
    :0
    Also I got a 2:21:03 any% pb.

We need to get those lums because of the Whale Bay 1 skip on PC I assume, so I don't know how that would work with Whale Bay 1 skip.

Well, thats with a perfect clip, which would take some pretty precise practice Tongue But I agree, it's feasible.
